Cole led the Yellow Jacket women to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field National Championship and earned the USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Div. III Great Lakes Region and Div. III National Women's Coach of the Year award. This spring, Cole and his staff again led the Yellow Jackets to great heights as BW was the NCAA Division III National Runner-up in Outdoor Track & Field and lost its bid for back-to-back national titles by just one point. Joe Postwaite

Assistant Coach

Postwaite, who currently serves as a hall director at BW, joins Coles staff after a successful collegiate career at NCAA Division II Lake Erie College.    He also assisted in the athletic and wellness center and was a resident assistant. Postwaite was the 2015 NCAA Division II National Champion in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet and 11 inches.   He also was the Mid-West Regional Athlete of the Year and was the 2014 recipient of the James D. Ulrich Award for Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year, presented by the Niagara Track and Field Hall of Fame.  Postwaite was a six-time Division II All-American and a five-time Great Lake Athlete Conference champion. Postwaite earned a bachelors degree in education studies and a minor in biology at Lake Erie.  He was the President of the Black Student Union and the NAACPs Martin Luther King Day Keynote speaker.

Swisher '94 will enter his 18th season as an assistant at Baldwin Wallace University in 2014-2015.  He has helped to produce some of the areas finest hurdlers and sprinters at both the high school and collegiate level.  Coach Swisher will be in his third year as the jumps coach this season.  After the 2013-14 indoor season Swisher was named as USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year award winner.  Coach Swisher is a 1989 graduate of Mentor High School and a 1994 graduate of BW.  He ran track at the University from 1990-1993.  He was a member of the 1992 OAC champion and NCAA Division III National Championship Meet qualifying 400-meter relay team. Coach Swisher began his coaching career at BW in 1996 and is in his second stint at the University after spending two years at the high school level at local Middleburg Heights Midpark. While at BW, Coach Swisher has tutored All-Americans Jeff Petersmeyer and Issac Fears and national qualifiers Rochelle Meyer, Libby Nelson, Justin Miller and Eric Schmul.  As the jumps coach he has tutored All American and OAC Champion Melanie Winters and OAC Champion Brandon Eddy Coach Swisher is currently employed at Berea-Midpark High School as a social studies teacher.  Coach Swisher and his wife, Danielle, have two sons named Kade (11), and Maddox (8). Phipps, who works with the Yellow Jacket throwers, is the 2016 USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division III . KEVIN PHIPPS STUDENT-ATHLETE BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION : KEVIN PHIPPS, a 2011 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, is in his fifth season as Assistant Track & Field Coach in 2015-2016 at the University. Phipps, who works with the Yellow Jacket throwers, is the 2016 USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division III National Assistant Coach of the Year. During the winter of 2016, Phipps helped to lead the Yellow Jacket women's program to the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship -- the first in school history. In addition, he coached seniors Kim Gallavan '16 and Tyler Burdorff '16 to NCAA Division III All-America honors. Gallavan won national titles in the weight throw and shot put and Burdorff was the Div. III national runner-up in the weight throw. Phipps, who also was the 2012 USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Assistant Coach of the Year, has been a key to BW's resurgence in track and field. Since he became an assistant coach, the BW program has produced seven Div. III All-Americans, 30 qualifiers to the NCAA Div. III national championship meet(s), 16 Ohio Athletic Conference champions, 39 All-OAC competitors, six school records and two OAC Championship Meet records in the throws. Professionally, Phipps is a member of the USTFCCCA, a USTFCCCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USATF Level 1 Coach. Phipps was one of the most accomplished student-athletes to ever participate in football and track and field at Baldwin Wallace.  He was a football and track team captain and leader. STEINGASS OUTSTANDING SENIOR MALE ATHLETE:   Kevin Phipps was the 2010-11 Baldwin-Wallace College Outstanding Senior Male Athlete.  In addition, Kevin was was recognized for his efforts off of the field with the 2011 Baldwin-Wallace College Sportsmanship Award.   KEVIN PHIPPS OVERVIEW:   Kevin Phipps was one of the most accomplished student-athletes to ever participate in football and track at BW.  He was a football and track team captain and leader. Kevin excelled at defensive tackle on the gridiron and was a multiple NCAA Division III All-American in track in the throwing events.  FOOTBALL INFORMATION:    Kevin Phipps had a solid four-year football career. He played three seasons on the varsity. Kevin also earned honorable mention All-OAC honors in 2010. He ended his career with 78 total tackles, including 22 solo stops, 3.5 quarterback sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. He also had 56 assisted tackles, two caused fumbles and one fumble recovery, seven forced bad passes and two pass deflections. As a freshman in 2007-2008, Kevin played in his first season of football and saw playing time on the junior varsity squad as a defensive end. As a sophomore in 2008-2009, Kevin moved from end to tackle on defense and saw considerable playing time at defensive tackle. He earned his first varsity letter and was part of the varsity rotation. In six games, Kevin recorded four tackles.  B-W finished 5-5 overall. As a junior in 2009-2010, Kevin played his third season of football and earned his second letter.  Kevin played on the defensive line in all 10 games, starting the last eight games at defensive tackle. Kevin had 26 total tackles, half a sack and one and a half tackles for loss. He also forced a fumble and broke up a pass. B-W finished 3-7 overall. As a senior in 2010-2011, Kevin played his fourth season of football and earned his fourth varsity letter. He started at DT and recorded 47 total tackles, including eight tackles for losses of 25 yards and three quarterback sacks for minus 15 yards. INDOOR TRACK INFORMATION:    Kevin Phipps was one of the most celebrated male track and field athletes in B-W history. As a freshman in 2007-2008, Kevin competed in his first season of indoor track and field.  He earned All-OAC honors by placing third in the weight throw (449) at the OAC Championship Meet at Ohio Northern. Kevin also had best throws of 448.75 in the shot-put at the 2008 OAC Indoor Championships and a weight throw of 4611.75 at Ohio Northern University.  A sophomore in 2008-2009, Kevin competed in his second season of indoor track and lettered.  Kevin set a school-record in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 566.50 at the Greater Cleveland College Championship Meet at B-W.  Kevin earned All-OAC honors with a throw of 552.25 in the weight throw with a first place performance at the 2009 OAC Championships.  Kevins mark in the weight throw was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, earning him a trip to the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet.  Kevin finished fifth in his preliminary flight with a throw of 515, but did not qualify for the finals.  Kevin also threw the shot put a season best 490.75. As a junior in 2009-10, Kevin and senior teammate Greg Patrick 10 set OAC records at the OAC Relay Meet for the weight throw relay (1087) and shot put relay (1014). At the All-Ohio Indoor Meet, Kevin won the weight throw (588.75) and was second in the shot put (519). Kevin set an OAC Meet record and was the OAC champion in the 35-pound weight throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 611.25 (broke the OAC record by more than four feet). His throw also bettered his own school record. At the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships at DePauw (Ind.) University, Kevin earned All-America honors with a seventh place finish in the weight throw (601.75). Kevin became B-Ws first-ever All-American in the weight throw. As a senior in 2010-2011, Kevin competed in his fourth season of indoor track. He earned OAC Mens Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 24 for his efforts at the season-opening Mid-January Meet at B-W. At Findlay, Kevin set the B-W record for the weight throw at 62 3.25 and the shot put at 561 and qualified automatically for the NCAA Division III National Meet in each event. He earned All-Ohio honors at the All-Ohio Outdoor Meet with a first place in the discus and a second in the hammer throw and was subsequently named OAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 13. He was the OAC champion in the discus and hammer at the OAC Championship Meet. He had a season best throw of 483.25 in the shot put at the OAC Championship (fifth place). Kevin improved his season-best mark in the discus to 1665 and hammer at 1764 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA meet.  Kevin was invited to the NCAA Meet in the discus, but not the hammer. Kevin finished seventh at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at Marietta College to earn All-America honors with a throw of 16011.  Kevin  became just the second mens track athlete B-W history to earn All-American status in the discus (the other was Clint Cuny in 1975).  He also joined teammate Greg Patrick 10 (shot put) as an All-American in the throws in 2009. He reset the weight throw record four times during the season. As a junior in 2010, Kevin competed in his third season of outdoor track and automatically qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet is the discus and hammer. Kevin reset his own school-records in the hammer with a throw of 19410 at the All-Ohio Meet on April 17 at Ohio Wesleyan, and in the discus with a throw of 17211 at the Allegheny Gator Invite on May. For his efforts at the All-Ohio Meet, where he won the hammer, placed second in the discus and fifth in the shot put, Kevin was named as the OAC Field Event Athlete of the Week on April 19. At the OAC Championship Meet, he was the OAC Champion in the hammer and placed third in the discus. Kevin earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the hammer with a sixth place finish with a toss of 1935 and sixth in the discus with a throw of 1680.  Kevin became B-Ws first-ever All-American in the hammer throw and reset the school-record three times during the season.   As a senior in 2010-2011, Kevin competed in his fourth season of outdoor track. He was named as OAC Field Athlete of the Week for breaking the school records in the discus (1740) and hammer (1980) at the March 18-19 University of North Carolina Charlotte Meet. Kevin set an OAC Meet record and was the OAC champion in the 35-pound weight throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 611.25 (broke the OAC record by more than four feet). His throw also bettered his own school record. At the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships at DePauw (Ind.) University, Kevin earned All-America honors with a seventh place finish in the weight throw (601.75). Kevin became B-Ws first-ever All-American in the weight throw. As a senior in 2010-2011, Kevin competed in his fourth season of indoor track. He earned OAC Mens Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 24 for his efforts at the season-opening Mid-January Meet at B-W. He earned his second straight OAC Mens Track Athlete of the Week award for his record-breaking efforts at the University of Findlay Meet on Jan. 28. At Findlay, Kevin set the B-W record for the weight throw at 62 3.25 and the shot put at 561 and qualified automatically for the NCAA Division III National Meet in each event. At the 2011 OAC Championship Meet at B-W, he won the weight throw and placed second in the shot put en route to being named as the Bud Yoest Co-Most Outstanding Field Event Athlete. At the 2011, NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, Kevin made the finals in weight throw placing ninth with a throw of 61 4. Look for him to compete in Outdoor Track and Field this spring.   OUTDOOR TRACK INFORMATION:    Kevin is one of the most celebrated Yellow Jacket male track and field student-athletes of all-time. As a freshman in 2008, Kevin competed in his first season of track and field. Kevin earned All-Ohio honors with discus throws of 1422 and 1445 at the All-Ohio Meet and achieved All-OAC honors with a third place hammer throw of 1465. Kevins best throws were 413.75 in the shot-put, a team-best 15203 discus throw and a team-best hammer throw 14801.  As a sophomore in 2009, Kevin competed in his second season of outdoor track and lettered. He earned All-Ohio honors at the All-Ohio Outdoor Meet with a first place in the discus and a second in the hammer throw and was subsequently named OAC Field Athlete of the Week on April 13. He was the OAC champion in the discus and hammer at the OAC Championship Meet. He had a season best throw of 483.25 in the shot put at the OAC Championship (fifth place). Kevin improved his season-best mark in the discus to 1665 and hammer at 1764 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA meet.  Kevin was invited to the NCAA Meet in the discus, but not the hammer. Kevin finished seventh at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at Marietta College to earn All-America honors with a throw of 16011.  Kevin  became just the second mens track athlete B-W history to earn All-American status in the discus (the other was Clint Cuny in 1975).  He also joined teammate Greg Patrick 10 (shot put) as an All-American in the throws in 2009. He reset the weight throw record four times during the season. As a junior in 2010, Kevin competed in his third season of outdoor track and automatically qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet is the discus and hammer. Kevin reset his own school-records in the hammer with a throw of 19410 at the All-Ohio Meet on April 17 at Ohio Wesleyan, and in the discus with a throw of 17211 at the Allegheny Gator Invite on May. For his efforts at the All-Ohio Meet, where he won the hammer, placed second in the discus and fifth in the shot put, Kevin was named as the OAC Field Event Athlete of the Week on April 19. At the OAC Championship Meet, he was the OAC Champion in the hammer and placed third in the discus. Kevin earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the hammer with a sixth place finish with a toss of 1935 and sixth in the discus with a throw of 1680.  Kevin became B-Ws first-ever All-American in the hammer throw and reset the school-record three times during the season.   As a senior in 2010-2011, Kevin competed in his fourth season of outdoor track. He was named as OAC Field Athlete of the Week for breaking the school records in the discus (1740) and hammer (1980) at the March 18-19 University of North Carolina Charlotte Meet. He is automatically qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University. Kevin broke all three of his personal bests in the discus, hammer and shot put going into the National Championships. He threw a mark of (174) in the discus along with a (538.50) shot put best also. Kevin ended his career at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Championships by earning All-American status for the third time in the discus by placing seventh along with a fourth place finish in the Hammer. ----------------------------- HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS PLAYED (YEARS & LETTERS EARNED) and HONORS:  Kevin Phipps grew up ion Patsakala, Ohio and graduated from Watkins Memorial High School.  He played four seasons of football and earned two varsity letters.  He also played basketball for three seasons (one letter) and track & field for four seasons (three letters). In football, Kevin was an All-Ohio Capital Conference, All-District, All-Region and All-Newark Advocate selection in addition to being the teams most valuable offensive lineman and a Licking County All-Star in 2007.   In track & field, Kevin was the OCC champion in the discus and hold the school record for the discus throw.  Kevin placed ninth in the OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) Division I Track Meet for the discus.  He was also a Columbus Dispatch Athlete of the week and co-captain.

Eby comes to BW after spending the past two years as the head cross country coach and distance coach at Sacramento State (Calif.) University. Prior to Sacramento State, Eby served as a recruiting intern at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2012-2013. There, he recruited nationally and internationally. In 2013, the Cornhusker mens team won the Big 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship. In 2011-2012, Eby was a volunteer coach at Wichita State (Kan.) University where he coached Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton to multiple All-America honors in cross country and track. From 2009-2011, Eby was the head coach at McPherson (Kan.) College where he was named as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Mens Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2011 and led student-athletes to NAIA national championships in eight events.  In addition, Eby also had coaching stops as an assistant at Allegheny (Pa.) College and as a graduate assistant at DePauw (Ind.) University.   Eby graduated with a bachelors degree in physical education from Mount Union College in 2004. He earned a masters degree in coaching from Indiana State University in 2006. Eby also has a Level II USATF coaches certification and is a USATF official. As a collegiate athlete, Eby was a four-time Ohio Athletic Conference and Division III All-Ohio champion in the 800 and 1500 meter runs. He also was the All-Ohio champion in the mile run and a Division III All-American in the indoor 1500 meters in 2002.
