Baldwin Wallace University Women's Softball

Spencer enters his 12th season as the head softball coach at Baldwin Wallace University in 2016.  Spencer, who enters his 18th overall year of coaching, also served as the BW head coach from 2000-02. Spencer and his outstanding staff of assistant coaches, Joe Yocabet and Gary Saunders, were named as the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.  That marked the second time that Spencer has been honored by the OAC. He was also named the 2001 OAC Coach of the Year. Spencer and his staff led the Yellow Jackets to the 2011 OAC Tournament title, a 28-11 overall record and a NCAA Division III National Tournament berth. The 28 victories tied the school record for wins in a season, which was first set in 1992 under the legendary Marcia French and tied for the first time in 2001 under Spencer. Spencer returned to BW in 2007-08 as the head coach and a professor in the Division of Health and Physical Education. Prior to returning to BW, Spencer posted a 51-94 mark at NCAA Division I Butler (Ind.) University and an 65-20 mark in two seasons at NAIA Notre Dame College (Ohio). In Spencer's first tenure at BW, the Yellow Jackets won 20 games each year.  Overall, his teams were 70-52. In addition to coaching softball at the University, Spencer was the Head Women's Golf Coach and served as an assistant women's basketball coach. With the BW women's hoops team, Spencer served as Cheri Harrer's main assistant and helped BW to five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III National Tournament, including two straight "Elite Eight" finishes. Spencer began the women's golf program and led it to a No.3 regional ranking in its first season. He then led the team to consecutive appearances at the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Spencer earned a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1984 and a teaching certificate from Cleveland State University in 1988.
