Doreen Carden
Head Coach
Carden is the most successful coach in the historyof the Albion College women's basketball program. In addition to leading the Britons to winning seasons 11 out of 15 years, Carden's resume includes winning a share of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's regular season championship in 2005, and the MIAA Tournament title in 2004. Albion has made two trips to the NCAA Division III Championships with the 2005 squad advancing to the sectional semifinal (round of 16). Carden's 15-year record at Albion is 235-161, a winning percentage of .593. Carden started to turn the Albion program in the right direction as soon as she arrived on campus. Albion won 17 games during the 2001-02 season, an improvement of 13 victories. The Britons continued the momentum during the 2002-03 season with 15 victories despite losing two key players to injury. Albion broke through during the season half of the 2003-04 season, winning 10 of its final 12 games. The Britons defeated the top two seeds on the road to win their first MIAA Tournament championship and to secure the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Albion finished the season with a school-record 23 victories. Albion pushed the school-record win total to 25 during the 2004-05 campaign. The Britons claimed a share of the league's regular season title by pulling out a 63-62 victory at Hope. Albion posted its third 20-win season in the Carden era with a 22-5 record during the 2007-2008 campaign. Thanks to the outstanding records, Albion has placed nine players on the all-MIAA first team during Carden's tenure. Post player Amanda Yeager was tabbed for all-league first team honors in 2002, guard Sarah Caskey was a first team all-league honoree in 2003, 2004, and 2005, forward Ruthie Sventickas joined Caskey on the all-MIAA first team in 2005, guard Jaime Fornetti received a first team all-league plaque in 2006, guards Jessica Babcock, Brittany Kemperman, and Melissa Shaw were voted to the first team in 2007, 2008, and 2009, respectively, center Patty Rewa was a two-time pick (2011 and 2012), Brett de Bear and Darian Payne joined the group in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
