Nate Kilbert
Head Coach
Nate Kilbert enters his sixth season at the helm of the Alcorn State women’s basketball program after guiding the Lady Braves to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship game in two of his first five years. A proven program builder and mentor, Kilbert remains committed to grooming his student-athletes to become champions on and off the court. Having experienced success first-hand at Alcorn, Kilbert was named head coach in May 2020. His appointment marked a homecoming, as he previously served as an assistant coach with the Lady Braves from 1991–2001, a decade that produced nine total titles—six SWAC regular-season crowns and three SWAC Tournament championships. His Alcorn roots go back even further to 1987–89, when he began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant. Kilbert brings 18 years of head coaching experience in the SWAC. He spent 12 seasons (2001–12) leading Mississippi Valley State, where he guided the Delta Devilettes to the 2011–12 SWAC regular-season championship, an NIT appearance, and back-to-back SWAC Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and 2013. From 2012–19, he was the head coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, becoming the winningest coach in program history. A standout point guard as a student-athlete at Mississippi Valley State, Kilbert helped the Delta Devils capture the 1986 SWAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. He was inducted into the MVSU Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. Kilbert’s impact at Alcorn has extended beyond basketball. While serving as an assistant coach in the 1990s, he also led the Lady Braves volleyball team from 1994–2000, compiling an 89-51 SWAC record and never posting a losing conference season. A native of Sallis, Mississippi, Kilbert earned his bachelor’s degree in health, physical education and recreation from MVSU in 1987 and his master’s in secondary education, health and physical education from Alcorn in 1989.
