Tyson Aye

Head Coach

Aye guided the Bulldogs to a 16-14 record and playoff berth in 2013-14. Nine former Hancock players have gone on to receive scholarships to four-year universities during his tenure. Last year, guard Matt Willkomm, a two-time All-Conference First Team selection, signed with Arizona Christian University. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate left Hancock as the programs all-time leader in career three-point baskets and most three-point baskets in a single-season. Previously, Alioune Tew signed with Division I-level Niagara, Andre Miller signed with Chadron State, Kadeem Minor and Lawrence Johnson inked letters with University of Antelope Valley, Rijo Jackson signed with Northland College, Teyvon Myers signed with D1-level University of West Virginia, Yuki Yashiro headed to Bethany College, and Josh Varney signed with Peru State. Aye's coaching staff at Hancock is unique because he and his two assistant coaches, Josh Motenko and Vic Armendariz, all have Division I-coaching experience. Prior to Hancock, Aye spent eight years as the head coach of the mens basketball team at Imperial Valley College, where he led the team to back-to-back Pacific Coast Conference championships in 2007 and 2008. He was named the Conference Coach of the Year both seasons. The Imperial Valley Arabs traveled to Santa Maria in 2012 and beat the Bulldogs 79-72 in a first round playoff game. Aye taught physical education and health at Imperial Valley College and was voted Employee of the Year by his fellow instructors, administrators and students in 2008. During his coaching career, Aye has coached more than 40 All-Conference and nine All-State players, as well as helped nearly 60 former players move on to four-year institutions. I want to help all of my players, whether theyre the leading scorer or the 13 man, to reach their goals and to move on to the four-year university level, Aye said. Aye has experience both playing and coaching at the community college level. He began his college career at Fresno City College playing point guard for his father, Denny Aye. He earned a scholarship to Concordia University in Irvine, where he was a two-time Academic All-American and helped lead his team to the Elite 8 in the NAIA National Tournament. After graduating with a bachelors degree in business administration, Aye landed his first coaching job as an assistant at San Jose State University, where he earned a masters degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in human performance and sports management. Aye returned to community college basketball in 2002 as an assistant coach for two seasons at San Jose City College under California Community College Mens Basketball Coaching Association Hall of Fame coach Percy Carr. He then coached one season with his father at Marshalltown Community College helping the team to its best season in school history, 25 wins, and a runner-up finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XI championships. Aye and his wife, Stefanie, and their daughters, Avery and Tenley, reside in Orcutt. To contact coach Aye, please email or call ext. 3790.
