Kristen Hutchison

Head Coach

Hutchison, one of the finest student-athletes ever to compete for the Yellow Jackets, is entering her 10th season as the head womens basketball coach at her alma mater. Hutchison has led the Yellow Jackets to a record of 157-108 (.588) through her first nine seasons at the helm of the AIC women's basketball program after being named the fifth head coach in program history on June 14, 2007.  Hutchison led the Yellow Jackets to one of it's best seasons ever with a record of 26-6, the Yellow Jackets returned to the Northeast-10 Championship game for the second consecutive year and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament as the East Region's No. 2 seed. The postseason honors piled up for Hutchison and her Yellow Jackets as she was tabbed the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year and the Women's Basketball Coaches' Assocation (WBCA) East Region Coach of the Year. Senior guard Brianna Bishop earned WBCA All-America honorable mention recognition and was Hutchison's first NE-10 All-Conference first teamer since 2009. In the 2014-15 season, Coach Hutchison led the Yellow Jackets to the Northeast-10 Championship game against No. 11 nationally ranked Adelphi after defeating fellow ranked opponents Stonehill and New Haven on the road in stunning fashion. The Yellow Jackets finished 18-14 overall and 10-10 in the NE-10 Southwest Division. Hutchison has led AIC to the NE-10 Postseason in all nine of her seasons as AIC has made 25 straight appearances dating back to the 1991-92 season. Hutchison guided the Yellow Jackets to a record of 21-13 in 2008-09, marking the program's 10th 20-win season, and a berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament. She won her first-ever NCAA playoff game as AIC defeated Bentley, 71-59, which also marked the program's first-ever NCAA tournament win over the Falcons. Hutchison led the Yellow Jackets to a 17-13 record in her first season as head coach, including an appearance in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 championship tournament. She picked up her first victory as a head coach in AICs 2007-08 season opener, a 66-50 win at New Haven on November 17, and recorded her first post-season win with a 62-52 victory over Saint Rose in the first round of the NE-10 tournament on March 2, 2008.  A 2002 graduate of American International with a degree in Business Management who later went on to earn her MBA at the College, Hutchison spent the previous four seasons as AIC's top assistant. Over that span, the Yellow Jackets posted a combined 94-31 (.752) record with four NCAA Tournament appearances and a berth in the NCAA Division II national championship game in 2006 after capturing the Northeast Region championship. The Yellow Jackets posted a 21-8 mark and finished in a second-place tie in the Northeast-10 in 2007.  As a player, Hutchison was a three-year captain for the Yellow Jackets, led AIC to the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore, junior and senior, culminating with a school-record 28-4 mark and the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2002. A two-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection who earned First Team honors as a senior, Hutchison holds school records for career assists (557) and made free throws (511) while being ranked fourth in career scoring (1,539 points). Over her four-year career she led the Yellow Jackets to an 88-34 (.721) mark and topped the team in steals and assists in each of her four seasons while averaging 17.3 points as a senior.  Arguably the greatest female student-athlete to ever attend American International, Hutchison also excelled on the soccer pitch and the softball diamond. In soccer, she remains the leading scorer in program history with 49 goals and 31 assists for 129 points and led the Yellow Jackets to a NCAA Tournament berth in 1998. She was also named the 1998 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year and 2000 NE-10 Player of the Year. In softball, Hutchison played during the 2002 and 2003 seasons and was a member of AIC's last NCAA Tournament team in 2003.  Last Updated: 06/22/15
