Jackie Bagwell

Head Coach

Bagwell begins her 26th season at the helm of the Amherst College womens tennis program in 2016-17, and has now amassed 411 wins surpassing the 400-win milestone during the 2015-16 season. Since taking the reins in 1991-92, Bagwell to 15-or more wins in 18 campaigns, and 20-or more wins in five of the last eight seasons. The Kokomo, Indiana native has led the Purple & White to at least the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament in 21 of the last 22 seasons, including the college's first NCAA title in any sport in 1999. Her teams have taken home at least a share of the NESCAC crown in nine of the past 13 seasons. Bagwells squads produced back-to-back national singles champions in 1999 and 2000 and have been even more successful in doubles action, taking home the NCAA title in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. She earned Boston Area Coach of the Year honors at the annual Boston Sports Awards in September of 2000, going up against former Boston Red Sox manager Jimmy Williams and former Boston Bruins head coach Pat Burnsamong othersfor the honor. Bagwell was named the 2007 and 2014 NESCAC Coach of the Year, and in 2011 she was honored as the ITA's Northeast Coach of the Year. As an undergrad, Bagwell spent three seasons at Columbus College before transferring to the University of Texas-Permian Basin, where she helped lead the Falcons to an NAIA National Tournament appearance. She graduated from the University of Indiana in 1986 with a degree in history/physical education and worked as a teaching pro at the Jimmy Connors United States Tennis Center in Florida. Prior to moving to Amherst, Bagwell spent two seasons coaching at Hamilton College.
