Awards 2022-23 LSC Co-Coach of the Year 2022-23 Dave Campbell's Non-D1 Texas Basketball Coach of the Year Career Record (through 2024-25 season): 183-125 (.594 winning percentage) Record at Angelo State (through 2024-25 season): 62-30 (.674 winning percentage) Record inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena (through 2024-25 season): 34-4 (.920 winning percentage) Vinay Patel enters his fourth season at the helm of the Ram Basketball program for the 2025-26 season. Patel's third season saw the Rams battle adversity to finish the season with a 17-12 overall record and a 13-9 record in LSC play. Sterling Gaston-Chapman was named to the All-LSC Second Team while Shemar Smith was named to the third team and Kaden Evans earned Honorable Mention and All-Defensive honors. Year two in San Angelo saw the Rams go 19-11 on the season as they qualified for the NCAA South Central regional for the second time in as many years under Patel. He is the first men's basketball coach at ASU to have back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Tournament in his first two season.  In his first season in San Angelo, Patel led the Rams to a 26-7 overall record, making it to the LSC Tournament Finals and the second round of the NCAA South Central Regional. His 26 wins were the second-most in program history and the most by a first-year head coach at ASU. Patel also led the Rams to a perfect 13-0 record inside the Junell Center - Stephens Arena.  At ASU, Patel has had 12 all-conference honors, including Steve Webb being named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson was named the LSC Newcomer of the Year in 2024. For his excellent first season in the Blue and Gold, Patel was named the LSC Co-Coach of the Year as well as being named the Dave Campbell's Non-D1 Texas Basketball Coach of the Year in 2023. He has also had three players - Steve Webb, Kevon Godwin, and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson, earn all-region honors at Angelo State. Patel brings 18 years of coaching experience to ASU, most recently serving as the head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he led the Rangers to a 20-9 overall record and one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA Division II in the 2021-22 season.  Before NWOSU, Patel spent four seasons at Oklahoma City University and compiled an overall record of 82-42. He led the Stars to a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship in 2018-19 and a share of the regular-season title in 2017-18. The Stars advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA Tournament two years in a row while making the tournament all four years. Patel was named the Sooner Athletic Conference and Oklahoma Sports Net Coach of the Year in 2018 when the Stars finished with a 24-9 mark and ranked No. 8 in the NAIA. No stranger to the Lone Star Conference, Patel started his coaching career at West Texas A&M University as a graduate assistant in 2005 before working his way up to associate head coach in 2013. In eight seasons on staff, Patel helped lead the Buffs to a 164-93 record and five NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. A native of Shamrock, Texas, Patel received his Master of Science degree in sports and exercise science from WTAMU in 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise and sports science from Texas Tech University. He is married to his wife Megan, who serves as the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance at ASU, and they have one son.

Connor Moore

Assistant Coach

Connor Moore enters his third season as an assistant coach for the Rams Basketball program in 2024-25.  In the 2024-25 season, the Rams went 17-12 as they qualified for the LSC Tournament. The Rams walked away with four all-conference honors, as Sterling Gaston-Chapman was named to the All-LSC Second Team, Shemar Smith was named to the All-LSC Third Team, and Kaden Evans was an Honorable Mention and All-Defensive selection. Moore helped the Rams to a 19-11 overall record as they qualified for the NCAA South Central regional for the second time in as many season. The Rams also received five awards from the LSC, including All-LSC First Team selections for Keyshawn Embery-Simpson and Kevon Godwin, as well as LSC Newcomer of the Year plaudits for Embery-Simpson. Embery-Simpson would also earn NABC All-Region honors.  In his first season, the Rams had four all-conference players, with Steve Webb being named the LSC Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Webb and KK Godwin received all-region honors. Moore helped guide the Rams to a 26-7 overall record, as well as making it to the LSC Tournament Finals and to the NCAA South Central Regional, where the Rams won their first postseason game since 2016.  Moore, a native of Mayville, North Dakota, comes to San Angelo from Rogers State, where he served as a volunteer assistant for one season and graduate assistant for the past two seasons for the Hillcats under head coach Justin Barkley. In his time in Claremore, Oklahoma, the Hillcats accumulated a 51-32 overall record. Moore helped guide the Hillcats to the NCAA Central Regional in the 2019-20 season and coached eight All-MIAA selections in his three seasons. On the court, Moore played four seasons at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. In his senior season, Moore shot 42.9 percent from the field. Moore graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hamline and earned his MBA from Rogers State.

Cole Rabedeaux

Assistant Coach

Cole Rabedeaux enters his first season in the Rams Basketball program for the 2024-25 season.  In his first season in San Angelo, the Rams went 17-12 as they qualified for the LSC Tournament. The Rams walked away with four all-conference honors, as Sterling Gaston-Chapman was named to the All-LSC Second Team, Shemar Smith was named to the All-LSC Third Team, and Kaden Evans was an Honorable Mention and All-Defensive selection. The Poulsbo, Washington, native joined Angelo State from Division II school Winona State, where he served as an assistant coach in 2023-24. At Winona, Rabedeaux helped the Warriors to a 21-10 overall record and a 14-8 record in a competitive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Warriors made it to the NSIC Tournament Semifinals as the sixth seed and narrowly missed out on an NCAA Tournament berth. Rabedeaux helped Warriors guard Connor Dillon be named to the All-NSIC First Team and earn CSC Academic All-American honors. He also helped the Warriors earn the 2023-24 NABC Team Excellence Award and saw seven players named to the NABC Honor Court. Rabedeaux's coaching career started as a graduate assistant and assistant video coordinator at the University of Houston under legendary head coach Kelvin Sampson. Rabedeaux led on-court player development sessions with student-athletes and helped lead all on-campus recruiting efforts for the Cougars. In Rabedeaux's time in Houston, the Cougars won two AAC Conference Championships and went deep in the postseason, making it to the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars were ranked in the top 20 for the entire 2021-22 season and were a top-five team in the nation for the 2022-23 season, including holding the number one ranking for seven weeks. As a player, Rabedeaux was a three-year letter winner at Division III institution University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He was a two-time all-conference and all-region performer for the Blugolds and holds the school record for most three-pointers made in a single game (11). As a senior in 2019-20, he helped the Blugolds to win their first NCAA Tournament game in 20 years. Rabedeaux graduated from Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and graduated from Houston with a master's degree in Sports and Fitness Administration.
