Keyser swam for the Eagles from 2006-08 and was an assistant coach from 2008-09. Over the past four seasons the Eagles have sent over 35 swimmers to the NAIA National Meet under the direction of Keyser and have seen improvement on podium finishes and the teams' conference finishes. In 2015-16 Keyser was honored with his first Coach of the Year award after helping guide the women's team to a third place finish at the Appalachian Swim Conference Championships, improving from a ninth place finish just one season before. The men also finished better in 2015-16 as the Eagles had one of the best seasons in Keyser's tenure. In 2014-15, the men finished 15th and the women placed 18th at the national meet. The previous year (2013-14) Keyser and the Eagles finished ninth and 12th on the men's and women's sides, respectively. Out of the pool the Eagles have place 21 student-athletes on the NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete teams the past four seasons. In 2012-13,both the men and women finished just inside the top-10 with ninth place finishes. The Eagles placed two swimmers on the All-American list as Danny Bowman garnered his third such honor in the 1650-meter freestyle and Trevor Ehrenheim swam to the honor in the 200 backstroke. The women's ninth place finish was a position better than the previous season, where they placed 10th. During his first season in 2011-12, Keyser led the Eagle men and women to second-place in the Appalachian Swim Conference. The men went on to the NAIA National Meet to finish 9th while the women place 10th. Keyser coached two NAIA All-Americans in 2011-12, as Danny Bowman claimed first-team honors in the 1650 meter freestyle race with a 3rd-place finish. Larissa Martin was named an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention after a 4th-place finish in the 200 meter butterfly. The team also were awarded four College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) All-Americans on the men's side and three for the women. The men also had eight CSCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans while the women had 15. The men broke six school records during the year while the women set two new records. In addition to the success in the pool, Keyser coached four NAIA Scholar Athletes. The women's team was named an NAIA and CSCAA Scholar Team. Three swimmers were named College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-District while Trevor Ehrenheim was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American 3rd-Team selection as Larissa Martin was named to the 2nd-team. They are the first swimmers in school history to be named to the CoSIDA Academica All-American tean. Originally from Hoyleton, Ill., Keyser spent the 2010-11 season as the head coach of Malone University in Canton, Ohio. While coaching the Pioneers, he led four men and four women to NAIA Nationals in the programs second year of competition. At nationals the women scored points for the first time at the event. They would also be named Scholar Team All-American by the CSCAA. Keyser is an American Swim Coaches Assocation (ASCA) and USA Swimming certified coach. Keyser transferred to Asbury in 2006 and immediately became an NAIA National Qualifier. He would go to nationals in both years at Asbury, swimming in the 500 and 1650 free and 200 fly events as well as relay events. He was an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and a CSCAA All-American in the 800 free relay in 2008. Keyser served as a team captain as a junior and senior. Before transferring to Asbury, Keyser swam at Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois for one year. While with the Lynx he would place in the Top-16 in both the 200 fly and 500 free at NJCAA Nationals. Keyser swam for CRCY Barracudas while in high school and was a YMCA Short Course and Long Course National Qualifier. A 2008 graduate from Asbury, Keyser completed his BA in Communications with a minor in Music. He recently graduated in the fall of 2011 with a MSS in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy. Keyser currently is a part-time professor in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. Keyser married the former Lindsay Keyes, also a former Asbury swimmer. The couple currently resides in Wilmore. After one of the most successful careers in Asbury Swimming history, Cody Barnes is joining Coach Keyser on the pool deck as an assistant swim coach. Specializing in sprint freestyle and breaststroke, Cody currently holds three individual school records (50 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke) and three school records in relays (200 yard medley relay, 400 yard medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay). At NAIA Nationals, Cody placed in the Top-16 a total of 6 times as an individual and 14 times as a member of relays. Cody has been a member of the coaching staff for the Lone Oak Sharks age-group swim team during the summers of 2014 and 2015. Cody is currently finishing his degree in History at Asbury University and has the desire to pursue a career in college coaching. Cody currently resides in Wilmore. Lauren Heffelbower is entering her first year as an assistant with the men and womens swimming programs. Lauren competed for three years at Valparaiso University, an NCAA Division I program, in Valparaiso, Ind. As an athlete, Lauren specialized in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke, 100 and 200 yard freestyle and the 200 yard IM. As a freshmen and junior, she placed in the Top-8 at the Mid-Continent Conference Championships in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. As a freshman, she was selected to the All Mid-Continent Conference Second Team. She was named to the Mid-Continent Conference All-Academic Team as a sophomore and junior and received the teams Mental Attitude Award both years. During her junior and senior years, Lauren was president of Valparaisos Campus Crusade. Lauren still holds Top 10 times for the program in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. In the classroom, Lauren received a B.S. in Elementary Education and graduated in 2006. During the span of 2006-2012, she taught second, third and fourth grade students in Clarksville, Tenn. and Lexington, Ky. Over the past five years, Lauren has been on the coaching staff for a local age-group swim team, Wilmore Aquatics Club. She is involved in her local church and is excited about joining the coaching staff for Asbury Swimming. Lauren and her husband, Neil, reside in Nicholasville with their two daughters, Grace and Claire.
