Annie Lahey
Head Coach
Coach Lahey returns for her 14th season with Assumption field hockey in 2025. Under her leadership, Assumption field hockey has become a powerhouse on the local and national stage. In her last five seasons, Coach Lahey's Greyhounds have an overall record of 85-24, and a record of 61-6 against Northeast-10 opponents. In 2024, the Greyhounds captured their second NE10 Conference Championship, beating Sant Anselm 3-0 at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium. Assumption ended the season with an overall record of 18-4, and went 13-0 against NE10 conference opponents. A 3-2 loss against Saint Anselm in the NCAA Divison II First Round finished the Greyhound's extraordinary season. In 2022, the Hounds had a 15-6 record while going 11-2 in conference play. The Assumption defense, led by the outfield players and Kylie Gargiulo in goal, was tough to score on. Assumption had seven shutouts on the year, including four overtime and shootout wins. The Hounds qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament, where they had a comeback victory vs. No. 6 Saint Anselm College in the First Round, 2-1 in overtime. Assumption advanced to the Final Four, hosted in Seattle, Washington. After the COVID season, Lahey and the Hounds returned to action and had one of the most successful field hockey seasons in Assumption history. The Greyhounds posted a 20-2 record while going a remarkable 14-0 in conference action. After losing their opening game of the season, the Greyhounds went on a 20-game winning run that ran through the Northeast-10 Tournament. Assumption defeated Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Championship 3-2 to secure the NE10 title. They advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament before their season ended at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Annie Lahey enters her ninth season as the Assumption College field hockey head coach in 2019. Lahey helped lead the Hounds to a 16-5 overall record and an 11-3 conference record. The Hounds had an impressive season, including an eight-game winning streak. The Greyhounds reached the NE10 tournament once again, beating now Division I Stonehill in the quarterfinals and advancing to the semifinals. In 2018, Lahey led the Hounds to a 12-8 overall record and a 7-6 Conference record. The Hounds upset multiple ranked teams throughout the season and were ranked seventh, eighth, and tenth themselves throughout the season. Assumption reached the NE10 tournament for the fifth straight year and upset top-seeded Pace in the first round to make it to the semi-finals. Kolby Burger was named NE10 Defensive Player of the Week and National Defensive Player of the Week in the same week, while both Burger and Gina Burton were selected for the Senior All-Star Game. Deirdre Burchill was named NE10 Player of the Week, while Burger, Burchill, Lucy Malia, Sam Tepper, and Sarah Bodzinski earned All-Conference honors. Bodzinski also was named to the NE10 Academic All-Conference team for the 2018 season. In her seventh season, Lahey led the Hounds to a 12-9 overall record and a 7-5 NE10 Conference record. The Hounds had an outstanding year in 2017 as they upset No. 2 Stonehill in the NE10 Tournament to make it to the NE10 Championship. Senior Allison Sheahan received multiple All-American Honors along with NE10 Conference recognition. Freshman Izzy Primack and Shannon Quinlan were also named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team. Deirdre Burchill was named NE10 Rookie of the Week and National Rookie of the Week. In 2016, the team finished with a 10-8 overall record and a 7-5 NE10 conference record. For the third consecutive season the team made the NE10 Tournament. Three Hounds earned postseason accolades from the NE10, and two were named to the DII All-America Teams. The team also earned NFHCA All-Academic Honors and placed 12 players on the NFHCA All-Academic team. In the 2015 season, the team finished with a 14-6 record, good for second place in the Northeast-10 Conference. The team made the Northeast-10 Tournament for the second consecutive year. Five Hounds were named to All-Conference teams, three were placed on All-American teams, and one was placed on the National Rookie Team. Senior Kiley Colucci was named to the Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference, was selected for the 2015 NFHCA Division II senior game, and earned NFHCA Division II All-American honors. In 2014, the Hounds posted a 12-7 record and advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament for the first time in over a decade. Ranked No. 9 in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Poll, the team earned the No. 5 seed in the league tournament. It was regionally ranked for much of the season. Lahey has an overall career record of 28-42 at Assumption and was named the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year. In 2014, she had three All-Conference players, including First Team selection Kiley Colucci. Colucci also earned NFHCA Division II Second Team All-American honors, the first Hound in over a decade. She has coached three All-Rookie Team selections (Paige Anderson 2011, Colucci 2012, and Allison Sheahan 2014) and nine Northeast-10 All-Conference players. Lahey has also guided her players to success on the field and accolades off the field. These honors include the 2014 Francis J. Grimaldi Award (Sadie Oliver), the 2013 Albert S. Banx Memorial Award (Kathy Moffett), and Scholar of Distinction recognition (Abigail Heroth (2013, 2014, and 2015). Lahey also helped Moffett to lead the nation in defensive saves in 2012. In 2013, Lahey coached the Hounds to a 7-11 mark overall as the team remained in playoff contention entering the season’s final week. The team posted a 4-4 record at home and won three of its last four games, including a shutout win on Senior Day. In 2012, Lahey guided the Hounds to a seven-win turnaround as the team finished 8-10 overall and 5-5 in the Northeast-10. After a 5-5 mark at home, the Hounds finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the league. At the end of the season, Lahey was honored as the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, as voted by her peers. The turnaround was the second-biggest turnaround in NCAA Division II in 2012. During that season, the team also held the record for most fan attendance in the nation for Division II Field Hockey. PERSONAL LIFE Lahey currently resides in Worcester, Mass. She has a brother, Tim, who was a former standout in basketball, baseball, and golf while at St. John’s High School. He went on to play baseball at Princeton University as well as in the Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago Cubs organizations, respectively. Her father, Philip, was also a standout at basketball at St. John’s High and is currently one of the physicians for Holy Cross athletics and has been for over 30 years. In addition to her coaching experience, Lahey taught English at Wachusett High School from 2004 to 2011, teaching classes in World Literature, Philosophy, and the Humanities. Lahey is a 2002 graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, graduating with a degree in religious studies and a concentration in women’s studies. Michael Looney
Head Coach
In the 2022/23 campaign, the Greyhounds recorded a 16-15-1 record while going 11-8-1 in conference action. They were 7-8-1 at home while going 8-6 on the road. Notable victories included a 4-3 victory over Saint Anselm where the Hounds scored three goals to complete the comeback and two road victories vs Franklin Pierce. Ultimately, the Hounds made the playoffs again, reaching the NE10 semifinals. Ryan Decker was the lone Hound to be named to an All-Conference team, as he heard a spot on the All-Rookie team. After the COVID season, Looney returned for the 2021-22 campaign and helped guide the Hounds to a NE10 Championship. They went 16-12-2 overall and 10-7-1 in conference. The Hounds played their best hockey towards the end of the season, defeating Franklin Pierce in the First Round after never beating them in the regular season. Next round, they took down Stonehill 5-2 in a controlling performance. In the championship, Assumption used three third period goals to pull off the victory vs Post University 4-3. In 2019/2020, Michael Looney will began his second season as the Assumption Men's Ice Hockey coach. He led the Greyhounds to a 15-9-4 record while going an impressive 12-4-2 in conference, which won the Greyhounds their first Northeast-10 Regular Season Championship. Assumption held up very well on the road, going 7-3-3. Towards the ladder end of the season, the Hounds ripped off a 14 game unbeaten run which included 11 wins to put them in a good position for the conference tournament, where Assumption made the Northeast-10 Semifinals. The Hounds scored 111 goals on 1,286 shots on the year. In his first season as head coach, Looney guided the Hounds to a 15-9-3 record. His team qualified for the Northeast-10 Playoffs, but fell to Saint Anselm, the all-time leader in NE-10 Championship wins, 2-1 in the longest game in program history. Under Looney's guidance, the Hounds' Devan Sheth and Robert Roche earned NE-10 Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year respectively, while the Hounds also had five players earn All-Conference awards. Looney also had seven different players earn NE-10 weekly awards throughout the season, with the team earning 11 in all. He recruited 13 freshmen for the 2018-2019 season, one of the largest classes in program history. He was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) all four years and was named to the ECAC Northeast-10 Men’s Ice Hockey All-Academic Team during the 2008-2009 season. PERSONAL LIFE Looney is a 2012 graduate with a degree in English, and a concentration in writing and mass communications. He earned his MBA from Assumption in 2013 and currently resides in West Boylston, Mass. In addition to college coaching, Looney has also coached at John Dillon’s Explosive Power Skating and Hockey School in Worcester, Massachusetts since 2005. Lance Brady
Assistant Coach
Brady enters his eighth year as the Assumption College men's ice hockey coach in the 2015-16 season. Brady has a 64-104-11 overall mark in his seven seasons. Brady enters his eighth season coming off of the programs first appearance in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals since the 2011-12 season. In 2014-15, two of Bradys players earned end-of-season NE-10 honors. Junior Brandon Bete was named to the All-Northeast-10 Second Team and freshman Matt Cowles was named to the All-Rookie team. The Hounds goaltender, Chris Hemhauser also earned seven NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll awards and was a three-time NE-10 Goaltender of the Week recipient.
