Keith Bateman
Head Coach
Since arriving at Augsburg in 2003, Keith Bateman (Bethel ‘98) has been the architect of a revival of fortunes for the Augsburg baseball program, leading the team to multiple conference tournaments and championship games. Augsburg Coaching Highlights: In his first season, Bateman took a team that had gone 18-53-2 in the previous two seasons and finished 16-22. Then in 2005, the Auggies finished 24-18 in qualifying for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason playoffs for the first time in school history, where they finished second. Bateman was named MIAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2005 and would lead the Auggies back to the conference playoffs in 2010 and 2013. At Augsburg, Bateman has coached 29 All-MIAC, nine All-MIAC Defensive Team, 17 All-Region student-athletes, including one MIAC Rookie of the Year, one Regional Rookie of the Year and one NCAA DIII/Rawlings Gold Glove recipient. Bateman has had 12 players play in summer collegiate baseball leagues with 10 of those playing in the prestigious Northwoods League. He has also had two of his former players go on to sign professional contracts. Bateman’s players have also had success in the classroom with 51 Academic All-MIAC and nine Academic All-District award winners, one Academic All-American, and one NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. In 2020 Bateman led the Auggies on an international trip to Cuba in which the players learned about the history of Cuba and Cuban culture through the game of baseball. Professional Credentials: Bateman has been a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) since 1999 and presented at the ABCA Barnstormers Clinic in 2017. Bateman has also worked for the Minnesota Twins as a clinician since 2004 and recently with USA Baseball organizing local coaches clinics. Previous Coaching Experience: Before he arrived at Augsburg, Bateman served as an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas in 2003 and at Bethel University from 1999-02. Playing Experience/Achievements: As a player at Bethel, Bateman earned All-Midwest Region honors in his senior season. He was a three-time All-MIAC selection and was team captain in his junior and senior years. He earned numerous team honors in his career including: team MVP his junior and senior years, Mr. Defense all four years, team Rookie of the Year, and team Most Respected Player his Junior and senior years. Upon graduation, Bateman held multiple career and single-season records. Other Duties/Campus Involvement at Augsburg: Bateman serves as Augsburg's Men's Athletic Equipment Supervisor. He has also served on the Staff Senate and multiple other committees, most recently serving two years on the Pastoral Intern Committee (one year as chair). Jacob Meiners
Assistant Coach
Augsburg baseball alumnus Jacob Meiners '24 began his term as a graduate fellow assistant coach in the 2025-26 school year. Meiners, who graduated summa cum laude from Augsburg in 2024, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in data science and mathematics with a cumulative GPA of 4.00. He was inducted into the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society and received departmental honors in mathematics, statistics, and computer science. As part of Augsburg's graduate fellow program, he will be pursing his master's degree while assisting the Auggie baseball program. A former member of the Augsburg baseball program, Meiners was part of the 2022 team before injuries cut his playing career short. He remained connected to the game and the program through his passion for coaching and his deep commitment to Augsburg. Meiners brings a growing resume of coaching experience. He has served as an assistant pitching coach at Owatonna (Minn.) High School and with the Owatonna VFW baseball program, working closely with pitchers on development, injury prevention, and mental performance. He also works for Major League Baseball as a junior BOSS operator, collecting and managing in-game data for the St. Paul Saints' home games. His background in data analysis, leadership, and player development makes him a valuable addition to the Augsburg coaching staff.

Troy Deden
Assistant Coach
Troy Deden (Augsburg '06), one of the top catchers in school history, enters his 17th season as an assistant coach for the Auggies in 2023. He also served as an assistant coach in the 2007 season before returning to the team in 2009. Playing Experience/Achievements Deden competed for three seasons at Augsburg after spending his freshman season at St. Mary's University. Deden earned All-MIAC honors twice in his career, and was also named third-team All-Midwest Region in 2005. He also was named a 2006 Augsburg Senior Athlete of the Year. As a three-year starter at catcher, he appeared in 108 career games, with a .345 career batting average (118-for-342), 18 doubles, 10 triples, two home runs, 83 runs batted in, and 65 runs scored. He finished with a .474 slugging percentage and .418 on-base percentage. Defensively, he finished with a .987 fielding percentage, with just six errors in 445 chances. He hit .352 his senior year, .364 his junior year and .314 his sophomore season. He also played two years of football as a quarterback and defensive back, and was a special education major at Augsburg.

Jeff Stomberg
Assistant Coach
Jeff Stomberg (Augsburg '08), one of the top defensive outfielders in the history of Augsburg baseball, enters his 15th season as an assistant coach for the Auggies in 2023. As an assistant coach at Augsburg, Stomberg has been an integral part of the Auggies rise in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings. Playing Career/Achievements A four-year starter in centerfield (149 games, 143 starts), Stomberg had a .281 career batting average (128-of-455), with 92 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, 50 RBI, a .321 slugging percentage, a .362 on-base percentage, 40 walks and 40 stolen bases in 50 attempts. He had a .980 career fielding percentage, with just six errors in 298 chances. Stomberg earned All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2008. Stomberg was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, a part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative, in 2008. In addition to coaching at Augsburg, Stomberg serves as an assistant coach for the Centennial Legion team, and helped lead the team to a state runner-up finish in 2011.

Brock Peterson
Assistant Coach
Brock Peterson (Gustavus-Adolphus '18) began his tenure with the Augsburg baseball team in 2021, serving as a graduate assistant and as the program's recruiting coordinator. In 2023, Peterson accepted a new role as the Assistant Director of Admissions Engagement in Augsburg's admissions office while still serving as an assistant coach for the baseball team. Playing Experience/Achievements Brock attended and played baseball at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul for a year, where he was named Academic All-Conference in 2015. Brock then played three years at Gustavus-Adolphus College. At Gustavus, he was named to the All-MIAC Defense team as a third baseman in 2016 and earned Academic All-Conference honors in 2016 and 2017. Through his three-year career at Gustavus, Brock had a career batting average of .299 and played in 111 of a possible 114 games. Brock was a three-sport athlete at Cannon Falls High School. Personal Notes After graduating from Gustavus, Brock taught Health and Physical Education in Wabasso, Minnesota at the Wabasso Public School while coaching Junior High football, JV basketball, and Junior High baseball. Brock’s father, Ross Peterson, was the head baseball coach at Gustavus from 1991-93.

Danny Bissonnette
Assistant Coach
Danny Bissonnette (Gustavus-Adolphus '07) began his tenure with the Augsburg baseball team in 2024, serving two seasons as a graduate fellow coach. He will be an assistant coach starting in the 2026 season. Playing Experience Bissonnette attended and played baseball at Gustavus Adolphus College from 2004-2006. After graduating, Danny spent six seasons playing town ball for the Edina Esox before playing five additional years of amateur baseball. Prior to college, Danny was a three-sport athlete at St. Louis Park High School, participating in football, hockey, and baseball, and reaching the state tournament in hockey in 2003. Coaching Experience Bissonnette began his coaching journey in 2011 as an assistant coach at St. Louis Park High School under coach Aaron MacEachran. Following MacEachran's departure in 2012, Danny remained on staff as the program's hitting and outfield coach while serving as an assistant coach for MacStrength, a club team run by MacEachran, in the offseason. Throughout his time at St. Louis Park High School, Bissonnette helped the Orioles to four section championship game appearances in a span of six seasons, eventually reaching the state tournament in 2022 following a 70-year drought. Personal Notes Bissonnette has worked as a land rights agent for more than seven years, currently holding a role with SRF Consulting. Bissonnette is a 2003 graduate of St. Louis Park High School, and received a bachelor's degree in communications from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2007. While working at Augsburg, Danny will pursue a master's degree in leadership.
