KiJuan Ware

Head Coach

KiJuan Ware (Springfield '97) was named as the 16th head coach in Augsburg University football history in June 2025, as his second stint on the Auggies' coaching staff. Ware served as a defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator during his two seasons at Augsburg (2022-23), before joining the staff at NCAA Division II Shippensburg University (Pa.), where he served in 2024 as the Raiders' offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He had also served as Shippensburg as a running backs coach and recruiting coordinator in the 2018 season.   The Augsburg head coaching role is Ware's second at a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference school; he had served as interim head coach at Macalester College in 2021, after serving as offensive coordinator for the Scots the prior two seasons.   Prior to Ware's time at Shippensburg, he spent two seasons at Shorter University in Rome, Ga., as the offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 2017, his offense broke 17 school records at Shorter. Ware also was the quarterbacks coach at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, as the team improved their passing yardage average by more than 40 yards per game in his tenure.   From 2004 through the 2013 season, Ware coached at six different Division I programs, serving in a variety of roles. He spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., before heading to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., to become the receivers coach and recruiting coordinator for two seasons. In 2008, Ware worked with the running backs at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., as an intern, and contributed to a victory in the Hawaii Bowl.   After Notre Dame, Ware served as the running backs coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for two seasons, including the 2010 Mid-American Conference championship season. Under Ware's guidance, the RedHawks significantly increased their rushing yards, rushing yards per game and rushing touchdowns. He then moved on to Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill., where he was the offensive coordinator and running backs coach for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Ware also coached the defensive backs at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich., for the 2013 campaign.   Ware is a 1997 graduate of Springfield (Mass.) College, where he majored in mathematics and computer science. He also played football and baseball all four years at Springfield. In 2000, he was named a Fulbright Scholar. Ware began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Springfield in 2002, and earned his master's degree in physical education and athletic administration in 2004.   A native of Hartford, Conn., Ware and his wife Michelle have a daughter, Kalyx.

Jeff Rogers

Jeff Rogers (UW-River Falls '08) enters his second stint on the Augsburg football coaching staff in 2024, serving as defensive coordinator.  Previous Coaching Experience:  Rogers has been coaching football for 25-plus years at both the high school and collegiate level. He most recently served as defensive coordinator at Robbinsdale Armstrong HS for nine years, where the Falcons went to the Minnesota Class 5A state tournament quarterfinals in 2022 and 2023. He was also defensive coordinator at Madison East (Wis.) HS (2014), Truman (Minn.) HS (2013) and Shell Lake (Wis.) HS (2000-03). In 2019, he coached at Augsburg University where he was special teams coordinator and linebackers coach. He also coached at UW-River Falls (2005-07, 2009-13), where he coached linebackers, defensive line and served as special teams coordinator. He also coached defensive line at Cornell College (2008).  Personal/Family Notes: He served as a special education teacher in Robbinsdale Armstrong HS during his K-12 career. Rogers earned his bachelor's degree from UW-River Falls in 2008. A native of Watertown, Wis., he and his wife Katie have sons, Jaxen and Jakob, and live in Plymouth, Minn.

Carlton Hall

Assistant Coach

Carlton Hall (Vanderbilt '98), a veteran coach with 24 years of collegiate coaching experience at a variety of levels, joined the Augsburg University football coaching staff as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2025. Prior to coming to Augsburg, Hall spent five seasons on the coaching staff at Division III Millikin University (Ill.), the final three seasons (2022-24) as head coach. He was the Big Blue's defensive coordinator for two years prior to the promotion. In his Millikin tenure, Hall mentored one consensus All-American and the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Year (’21), two first-team and five second-team All-CCIW student-athletes.   Prior to Millikin, Hall spent three seasons at NAIA Southern Oregon University as linebackers coach. While there, he coached five first-team All-Frontier Conference linebackers, and was part of a staff that led Southern Oregon to a 12-1 record in 2017 and the best two defensive seasons (2017 and 2018) statistically in school history. In a coaching career that has included jobs at Division III Williams (Mass.), Division II schools West Alabama and Northwestern Oklahoma State, and Division I programs Yale, Houston, Elon, Georgetown, Columbia and Harvard, Hall has coached 36 All-Conference players, seven NFL players, four All-Americans, three team captains, two conference Defensive Players of the Year, and a Rhodes Scholar.   Hall attended Division I Vanderbilt University, where he was a four-year letterwinner and a three-year starter at linebacker. He was voted All-Southeastern Conference and played in the East-West Shrine Game after leading the SEC in tackles his senior campaign. Hall signed with the NFL's San Diego Chargers in 1998.   Hall double-majored at Vanderbilt with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human & Organizational Development and Psychology. Hall has two grown children, Yesenia Lambert and Carsun Hall.

Jack Osberg

Former head coach Jack Osberg (Augsburg '62) returned to the Augsburg football staff in 2020, serving as an assistant coach. Previous Coaching Experience: Osberg spent 14 seasons (1991-2004) as Augsburg's head coach, compiling a school-record 62 victories (62-79). In 1997, his Auggies won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and qualified for the NCAA Division III national playoffs, engineering the best record (10-2) in school history. In 2003, he passed his mentor, Edor Nelson, who earned 56 wins (56-118-10) from 1947-69. After graduating from Augsburg in 1962, Osberg began his coaching career at Minneapolis Roosevelt HS, serving seven years as an assistant coach (1962-70), before taking one year off (1968-69) to serve as a graduate assistant on Bob Devaney's staff at Nebraska. In 1971, Osberg was named head coach at Wayzata (Minn.) High School, where he served for six seasons. In 1977, he returned to his alma mater to join the Auggie coaching staff, serving eight seasons as Augsburg's defensive coordinator (1977-84). He also served as an assistant coach in the 2007 season. He also served as an assistant coach at Osseo High School for eight years (2011-19). Playing Experience/Achievements: A graduate of Minneapolis Washburn High School, Osberg was a standout football player at Augsburg from 1958-61, earning induction into the college's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979. Osberg, a nose guard-offensive guard, was named All-MIAC twice, and was selected MVP, team captain and Lutheran All-American. Personal/Family Notes: Osberg taught biology in the Wayzata school district for 20 years and was recognized for his teaching excellence there. He has also served as a Sunday School teacher and a youth coach in softball and hockey. Osberg also served as an instructor in the Health and Physical Education department during his Augsburg tenure. Osberg resides in Plymouth, Minn., with his wife, Nina, who taught at Wayzata HS. They have six children: Rich, Jennifer, Peter, Jeff, James and Anne.

Nathan Tenut

Assistant Coach

Nathan Tenut (Wisconsin-River Falls '07) enters his 11th season as an assistant football coach at Augsburg in 2022. Tenut works on the offensive side of the ball, coaching the offensive linemen. While coaching at Augsburg, Tenut has coached six CoSIDA Academic All-American selections, four D3football.com All-West Region selections and 11 All-MIAC selections. During Tenut's six prior years at Augsburg, the Auggies have guarded an offensive unit that produced 24,928 yards of total offense (415.5 yards per-game), including 9,737 rushing yards (162.3 per-game) and 15,191passing yards (253.2 per-game), while allowing just 105 sacks (17.5 per-season) and 328 tackles for-loss (54.7 per-season). The Auggies have recorded 3,500-plus yards of total offense in five of the last six years, including a 5,038-yard effort in 2015. The Auggies have allowed 20 sacks or less in four of the past six seasons. Previous Coaching Experience:   Tenut most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he was the team's offensive line coach/run game coordinator. During his time as an assistant at River Falls, Tenut worked under former Falcon head coach John O'Grady as well as current head coach Matt Walker. In his four seasons as an assistant, Tenut coached five All-WIAC selections and one D3football.com All-West Region selection on the offensive line. Playing Experience/Achievements:   As a four-year letter winner as a member of the Falcons squad from 2003-07, Tenut was a three-year starter under legendary Falcon head coach John O'Grady. During his senior season, the Falcon offense ranked second in the WIAC in scoring offense with 29.1 points-per game, and recorded the third-highest rushing yards per-game average among conference opponents. In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Tenut was a four-year member of the Falcon Football Honor Roll, and served as president of the River Falls Health and Physical Education Recreation Club from 2005-07.  Personal/Family Notes:    A native of Phillips, Wis., Tenut currently resides in New Brighton, Minn. Tenut holds a master's degree in sports and business administration from University of Central Missouri.

Michele Braun

Coach

Michele Braun (St. Cloud State '92) joined the Augsburg Athletics family as a football assistant coach in the fall of 2025, and was named as head coach for the Auggies' women's flag football program in February 2026. Braun brings more than 20 years of football experience to her role at Augsburg. On the men's football staff, she serves as an offensive assistant coach, focusing on the offensive line and contributing to player development, strategic planning and team cohesion. With the new women's flag football team, she will grow the team as it starts under the NCAA's Emerging Sports for Women program.  Since 2019, Braun has served as the offensive line coach for the Minnesota Vixen, consistently one of the top women's pro football teams in the country. She has produced numerous Women's Football Association All-Americans on the offensive line, including three in 2023, two in 2024 and two in 2025. Her offensive line has helped the Vixen to top-five rankings in the WFA in rushing yardage, passing yardage and touchdowns during the past eight seasons.   She played for 20 years on the offensive line and as a long snapper as one of the original members of the Minnesota Vixen, serving as team co-captain for multiple years and earning WFA All-Star honors three times. Braun was inducted into the Women's Football Hall of Fame in 2018.   Braun has also served as a personal fitness trainer at Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn., since 2005, and served as a coach on the secondary level in St. Cloud, Minn. Braun earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from St. Cloud State University in 1992.
