Aurora University Men's Baseball

Adam Stevens became the Head Coach of the Aurora University baseball program in May of 2014. Prior to the 2019-2020 year, Stevens was named an Assistant Athletic Director for Student Programming. In his time at AU, Stevens has returned the Spartans back to prominence in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and the national scene. Averaging 30 wins since 2018, the Spartans have played in six NCAA Regionals, playing in five consecutive which is only one of eleven teams in Division III Baseball to do so. The 42 wins in 2023 is the most in a single season in the illustrious history of AU baseball. The Spartans have ranked in the D3 Baseball Top 25 the last five seasons, reaching as high as fifth under Stevens' leadership.   Since 2018 the Stevens led Spartans have the second highest win percentage among NCAA Division III programs. The 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2026 Spartans advanced to the NCAA Tournament with the 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2026 teams winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament to move on to the NCAA Tournament. Stevens has had five CoSIDA Academic All-America selections with 2018 seeing Jacob Stockman named a First-Team honoree, 2019, Jeff Mayes earned Third-Team honors, in 2022 and 2023 Justin Sartori earned First-Team honors and Jacob Ambuel was a Second-Team selection in 2023..  Stevens coached two former Spartan players to sign professional contracts with Major League Organizations. Outfielder AJ Gill during the 2018-2020 seasons before Gill signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox in June of 2020. As well as Chris Roycroft, who played from 2016-2019 signing with the Saint Louis Cardinals.  In addition to his players' accolades, Stevens added to his trophy case by winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season in 2023. Stevens also received the ABCA Region 8 Coach of the Year following the 2022 and 2023 seasons..  Stevens became the program's 17th head coach, coming to AU after serving as the head coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa for the past 11 seasons where he had a 253-193 overall record. In 2012, he led Central to the program’s first outright Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) title in 64 years. That same year he was named the D3baseball.com Central Region Coach of the Year. He also received IIAC Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2012, coached the 2006 Academic All-American of the Year, and had 12 All-Region players and two IIAC Players of the Year throughout his tenure. Prior to becoming the head coach at Central College, Stevens was an assistant coach at Wabash College for one season in 2003 and served as an administrative assistant with the baseball program at Ball State University in 2002. Stevens graduated from Morningside College in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. While there he was a four-year starter, played in 110 consecutive games and was a team captain his senior year. Carter Turnquist joined the Aurora University baseball program as an assistant coach in the winter of 2023, returning to the Spartans after a four-year career on the diamond for the Spartans. His duties include recruiting and pitch development with Spartan pitchers.. Turnquist is Rapsodo pitching certified. Turnquist returns to the Spartans after a four year career and seven years of coaching experience with various travel baseball organizations. In his four seasons as a Spartan on the mound, Turnquist had a 10-4 record and two saves with three complete games. He appeared in 35 games with 27 starts while pitching 158-2/3 innings. In his four years on the field, he helped AU to a 112-36 record with one Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship and appearances in the 2018, 2019 and 2021 NCAA Division III Baseball Regionals.

My name is Carter Turnquist and I am the Assistant Coach with Aurora University. I graduated with a Sports Management Degree from Aurora University in 2020 and then graduated with a Masters in Business Administration in 2021. I played for the Spartans from 2018-2021 with conference tournament titles and regional appearances in every year. I was a starting pitcher from 19'-21' and voted team captain in my last year by my teammates.  I started with Aurora University in January of 23' and have been coaching baseball for a total of 8 years. My overall goal for the players that I coach, is to have a long lasting positive impact on the athletes that I am able to coach, in baseball and in life. I want our athletes to grow as individuals and as a team to be able to have the opportunity to achieve their goals and dreams in their life.  One year ago, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the winningest team in Aurora Spartan history as we went 42-6. The team achieved being Regular Season Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, and NCAA DIII Regional Champions. This past season, we ended up going 34-11 and just missed the NCAA playoffs. To see the growth of the team and to be a part of helping this team succeed is exactly what I came to Aurora University to do. Go Spartans!
