Ryan Chapman

Head Coach

Chapman took over as the head coach of Aurora University's cross country and track and field teams in the fall of 2008. He is the second cross country and track and field coach in the history of Aurora University. Chapman has been honored as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year 21 times. He was awarded the honor in 2008 (women's cross country), 2010 (men's cross country), 2011 (women's indoor track and field), 2012 women's outdoor track and field), 2012 (men's and women's cross country), 2013 (men's and women's indoor track and field), 2013 (women's outdoor track and field), 2013 (mens and womens cross country), 2014 (men's and women's indoor track and field), 2014 (men's and women's outdoor track and field), 2014 (women's cross country), 2015 (men's and women's indoor track and field), 2015 (men's and women's outdoor track and field) and 2015 (men's cross country). His Spartan teams have captured 20 conference championships in his time as head coach. AU captured men's cross country championships in 2012, 2013 and 2015, women's cross country championships in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014, men's indoor track championship in 2013, 2014, and 2015, women's indoor track championship in 2011, 2013, 2014, and 2015, men's outdoor track championship in 2014 and 2015, and women's outdoor track championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Individually, Chapman has had 153 Spartans claim individual conference championships in men's and women's indoor and outdoor track. Chapman came to AU from Washington University, having served as an assistant coach on the mens and womens cross country and track and field teams for the past three seasons. Prior to that, he spent a season as a volunteer on the coaching staff of Florida Atlantic Universitys cross country team. Chapmans brief yet distinguished coaching background includes being a member of the   University Athletic Association (UAA) Womens Indoor Track Coaching Staff of the Year (Winter 2008), Midwest Region Womens Coaching Staff of the Year (Fall 2007), UAA Womens Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year (Fall 2007), Midwest Region Mens Coaching Staff of the Year (Fall 2006), Midwest Region Womens Coaching Staff of the Year (Fall 2005), and UAA Womens Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year (Fall 2005). As a runner at Augustana College, Chapman was a team captain as a senior and twice won the team Leadership Award. He graduated from Augustana with a B.A. in English with a writing emphasis and also holds a masters degree in creative writing from Washington University in St. Louis. Rachael Chapman

Assistant Coach

Chapman came to the Aurora University cross country and track and field programs in 2006. Prior to coming to AU, Chapman (Williams) was a four year letter-winner at North Central College in track and field, competing in jumps and hurdles. To go along with her coaching experiences at AU, Chapman has coached at the Learn by Doing Track and Field Series as well as at the Cornerstone Christian Academy track and field camp. She has also taught courses as a graduate assistant in kinesiology.  Chapman received her B.A. in organizational communication from North Central College and her M.S. in sport management from Northern Illinois University. She was a 2006 Merle Chapman Leadership Award recipient and currently resides in Sycamore, IL.

Jeff Fellers

Assistant Coach

Fellers has coached one All-American, three national qualifiers, 21 conference champions, 28 All-Conference Performers, and six Conference Records in the Vault and Relays. As an athlete for the Spartans, Fellers captured three conference titles in the Pole Vault and was a part of the conference winning Distance Medley Relay in 2007.  He was an eight-time All-Conference performer in Track & Field and the school and conference record holder in the Pole Vault when he graduated. During his time at AU Fellers also played football and helped lead the Spartans to a conference title and the Division III Playoffs in 2008. He is in the top-10 All-Time for All-Purpose Yards.   Fellers has a B.S. in Fitness and Health Promotion and earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration in May, 2015.

Brandon Sturman

Coach

Sturman spent two seasons as a football graduate assistant at his alma mater, Valparaiso University. Sturman moved from the field to the sidelines for Valparaiso University as an assistant coach in charge of linebackers to begin the 2006 season. An Honorable Mention All-Pioneer Football League North selection in 2005, Sturman finished his career with the Brown and Gold with 224 tackles, including 16 tackles for loss. He recovered a pair of fumbles, forced three, and picked off two passes, while blocking a pair of kicks in his four years with the Crusaders as a linebacker. Sturman graduated from Valparaiso in 2006 with a bachelors degree in sports management and earned his masters degree in sports administration in May, 2008.
