Matt Noone

Head Coach

A 1990 graduate of Princeton University, Matt Noone is in his 24th season as head coach of Babson's baseball program in 2025-26. In 23 seasons at the helm, Noone has won more than 500 games and made eight postseason appearances, which includes leading the Beavers' first trip to the NCAA Division III College World Series in 2019.  The Beavers' most recent NCAA appearance came in 2024, when they captured their fifth NEWMAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time under Noone. In the most successful stretch in program history, Noone guided the Green and White to three straight NEWMAC regular season titles and a school-record 39 wins that culminated with a spot in the 2019 Division III College World Series. The Beavers captured the Hartford Regional with a winner-take-all victory over Trinity and then swept Cortland in a best-of-three super regional series at Govoni Field to advance to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following a record-setting 2017 campaign that saw the Green and White win 29 games and advance to the championship round of the NCAA Tournament Harwich Regional, Noone led the Beavers to an even better 2018 campaign. Babson captured its second consecutive NEWMAC regular season and tournament titles, won a then-school-record 35 games, and came within one victory of reaching the Division III College World Series as the runner-up at the York (Pa.) Regional. The Beavers won 28 of their final 33 games and set new program marks for runs scored, home runs, doubles, walks and total bases.  Overall since 2017, the Green and White has posted a 219-101 record, claimed four straight NEWMAC regular season crowns from 1971-21, and captured conference tournament championships in 2017, 2018 and 2024 in addition to its NCAA Tournament success. A two-time conference and two-time regional coach of the year, Noone has led the Green and White to 22 winning seasons and 22 or more wins on 16 occasions. He guided the Beavers to 26 victories in 2008 and led the program to its first NCAA Tournament win in 2009. Noone also led Babson to 25 wins in 2011 and helped his 2014 and 2016 squads advance to the NEWMAC Tournament championship series.  Prior to his arrival at Babson, Noone spent 12 seasons as the pitching coach at Northeastern University, where the Huskies twice captured America East titles and appeared in the NCAA Tournament regionals. Under Noone, the Huskies' pitching staff was consistently recognized as one of the finest in New England. Noone's 1999 pitching staff led America East and the ECAC Northeast Division in ERA and fewest walks per nine innings pitched. Coach Noone has also spent time in the prestigious Cape Cod League as a pitching coach for the Bourne Braves from 1995 to 1996 and the Hyannis Mets in 1999. Most recently, he served as the head coach of the Bourne Braves. As a player, Noone was a captain and a four-year letter winner as a pitcher and outfielder for Princeton University. He was a two-time First Team All-Ivy selection and a Northeast Regional First Team All-Star for the Tigers. In addition to his coaching duties, Noone served as teacher and chairman of the history department at his alma mater, St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Mass. He earned his master's degree in education from Boston College. Noone currently resides with his family in Needham, Massachusetts.
