Steven Soriano

Associate Head Coach

Steven Soriano joined the volleyball staff in the summer of 2022 as a volunteer assistant, after serving at the head student manager at NCAA Division I Syracuse for four years under current Buccaneer head coach Leonid Yelin. In the fall of 2023, he was promoted to assistant coach for beach volleyball, as well as maintaining his duties with the indoor team. With the Orange, Soriano assisted the coaching staff with setting up and tearing down practice, managing equipment, participated in drills and individual workouts. Part of the staff that led the Orange to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and reached a AVCA ranking fo fifth in the nation. He also served as the head coach of the men's club program for one season, as well as assistant director at Elite Sports Camps. From 2016-2018, he worked as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant at Baldwin School of Puerto Rico, helping lead the varsity to the semifinals of the All-Island tournament. He assisted with the Puerto Rican U-23 National Team camp in June of 2021 and holds a certification from the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation. He graduated from Syracuse with a bachelor of arts in economics in May of 2022.

Charles Norman

Assistant Coach

Charles Norman joined the volleyball staff in the spring of 2024 as a volunteer assistant and was promoted to full-time in the summer. He has lead the recruiting effort to staff the inaugural men's indoor team for 2025. He had served as the head boy's and girl's indoor volleyball coach at Ferguson Senior High in Miami since 2020. He also serves as the head coach, camp director and recruiting coordinator for Miami United Volleyball Club. He led the Falcons to three straight GMAC and District girl's championships and led the boys to a runner-up spot in both the GMAC and the district in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He led the Ferguson boys to a Top-10 ranking in the state in 2022-23 and received an Outstanding Leadership Award at the Miami-Dade All-Star Game as head coach in 2021-2022. He compiled a 55-44 record with the boys team and 114-67 overall as a high school coach. He also led the inaugural Barry mens volleyball team as the standing head coach in their first season.

Hendricks has a career record of 70-71. In 2015, Barry went 14-12, climbing into the Top 10 in the NCAA South Region poll. The Buccaneers went 8-8 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Bucs were 7-3 at home, which included a four-set win over No. 15 Florida Southern. Libero Brittany Jaco broke the school season record for digs with 599, and was chosen as a Third-Team All-American by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and an Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In 2014, the Bucs went 17-12, narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament for the second time in Hendricks' tenure. Barry won six matches in a row late in the season to make a postseason push, climbing into the Top 10 of the South Region rankings. Tashalyn Begon was named a Second-Team All-SSC selection.  In 2013, Hendricks' team went 11-17 overall, 4-12 in the SSC. The Buccaneers beat No. 19 West Florida in four sets. Barry went 3-1 at the season-opening Ram Rumble tournament.  In 2012, the Buccaneers made great strides under Hendricks as his team went 17-13 overall, 9-7 in the SSC. The Bucs finished fourth in the league and were ranked No. 8 in the South Region at the end of the season. Barry beat No. 18 Lewis in five sets. In his first year at Barry in 2011, Hendricks' team went 11-17, 3-13 in the SSC. Tania Torres was named to the SSC All-Newcomer Team.   Prior to Barry, Hendricks spent four years as an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico. While at UNM, Hendricks helped lead the Lobos to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a No.12 national ranking in attendance. He coached four AVCA All-Americans, one ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American, and the team received two AVCA Team Academic awards. He was heavily involved in the community, including serving as a clinician for Special Olympics New Mexico, was a board member for the New Mexico Juniors Volleyball Club, and coached the age groups of 14s, 15s and 16s. In 2009, the New Mexico Juniors 15-1 team advanced to the national championship tournament in Miami.   Prior to New Mexico, Hendricks spent three seasons as an assistant at the University of San Francisco, where he helped the Dons to two of its best seasons in 2005 and 2006. While in San Francisco, his community involvement included leading a support group, Friends and Family Members of Crystal Meth Users.   He spent eight seasons as the lead assistant coach at Notre Dame, a perennial Top 25 program. While in South Bend, Hendricks helped guide the Irish to eight consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and seven Big East Conference championships. The Irish won seven NCAA Tournament matches, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 1997. His recruiting acumen was validated when StudentSports.com rated the 2002 Notre Dame recruiting class No. 3 nationally.   In 2003, Hendricks took an administrative leadership role at St. Ignatius College Prep as Assistant Athletic Director. His duties included overseeing daily operations of the athletic programs and leading the girls volleyball program. While in the Chicago area, he also directed the USA Volleyball Great Lakes Region High Performance Team to a fourth place finish in the national tournament in 2003, and propelled Celtic Force Volleyball Club 17s (Palos Heights, Ill.) to the 2004 National Championship. In two seasons with Celtic Force, Hendricks posted a 52-3 overall record.   Hendricks began his coaching career after a standout playing career at Ball State University. As an outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Cardinals, Hendricks competed in three consecutive NCAA Final Fours from 1988-90. Hendricks first collegiate coaching experience came at Tennessee, where he served as a graduate assistant and interim head coach from 1990-92. This led him to two seasons at Eastern Michigan as an assistant coach from 1992-94.   Hendricks earned his bachelors degree in education from Ball State in 1990, and has two masters degrees, in sports psychology from Tennessee in 1992, and sport administration from New Mexico in 2011. He is a CAP Level II coach with USA Volleyball and a certified personal trainer through ISSA.
