Monique Reid

Head Coach

Monique Reid was named the seventh head coach in Bellarmine University women's basketball history in April of 2025. Before taking the helm of the program, Reid was an assistant coach at Bellarmine for two seasons. She helped the Knights set the program's benchmark for success in the NCAA's highest level in 2024-25, as BU set new Division I-era records for total wins (18), ASUN wins (eight), road wins (nine) and winning streak (six) while also winning its first-ever ASUN Tournament game. Reid joined the staff as an assistant prior to the 2023-24 season after enjoying an extensive professional playing career overseas. A precursor to the unprecedented D1-era success in 2024-25, Bellarmine's late run included a sweep of Lipscomb and Austin Peay in the final week of the regular season en route to the first of two straight ASUN Tournament bids. Bellarmine has garnered four All-ASUN accolades, four Academic All-ASUN Team laurels and 11 ASUN weekly awards (Player/Newcomer/Freshman of the Week) in Reid's time at Bellarmine. Reid retired as a professional player in June of 2023 after a distinguished decade of playing abroad in which the 6-foot-1 small forward captured numerous MVP awards, scoring titles and championships. Her international stops included Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Chile, Puerto Rico, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Over a decade, the Louisville native was named MVP four times and earned 10 total championships while frequently winning the scoring title, including in her last full season, which came in Turkey when she averaged 30.9 points per game. Reid was one of the most prolific players in University of Louisville history and was inducted into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023. When she was hired as an assistant at Bellarmine, she still ranked in the program's all-time top 10 in career points (1,725), rebounds (802), field goals made (643) and free throws made (430) in a tenure that spanned from 2008-13. Reid was named first-team All-Big East as a sophomore and junior and helped lead the Cardinals to the Final Four — and NCAA Tournament runner-up finishes — in 2009 and 2013. As a sophomore, she was also recognized as the Big East Most Improved Player of the Year. Reid played high school basketball at Fern Creek in Louisville where, over four seasons, she piled up 2,666 career points and 1,558 career rebounds while averaging 25.4 points per game. She was named a Courier Journal first-team All-State selection and the Region 7 Player of the Year her junior and senior seasons, averaging 31.6 points, 19.2 rebounds and 5.7 assists in the latter while being chosen to play for the Kentucky All-Star team.

Chancellor Dugan

Head Coach

Dugan became the sixth head coach in Bellarmine University womens basketball history and, in her fourth season, guided the Knights to their first-ever Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title. In 2015-16, Dugan's squad returned to the prominence not witnessed in the program since the 1990s, tying the program record for best win percentage in a season (85.7) after finishing 24-4. The Knights' 15-3 mark in the GLVC tied its best output among its 18-game conference seasons. Dugan guided BU to an unprecedented GLVC Tournament championship after her squad upset No. 10 Drury, 80-77, in the semifinals and claimed the title with an 89-78 victory over No. 22 Quincy in the finals. That set the stage for a Selection Sunday in which it was announced that Bellarmine earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2008. The Knights entered the Big Dance ranked 20th in the nation. Dugan made an immediate impact on the team in her first season. Inheriting a program coming off two losing seasons, she turned the Knights around in 2012-13 and led the team to a 19-11 record that included a 10-1 start to her tenure. Dugan has guided BU into the GLVC Tournament in each season of her term and overseen seven All-GLVC selections, including 2014-15 co-Freshman of the Year Raven Merriweather. Dugan, a Sacred Heart Academy graduate, spent 13 seasons as head coach at Division I Florida Atlantic University before taking the helm at Bellarmine. At FAU, she led the Owls to their respective conference postseason tournament each year. In 2005-06, FAU captured the Atlantic Sun championship and earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to her stint at FAU, Dugan was head coach at GLVC rival University of Southern Indiana, where she coached the Screaming Eagles to four NCAA Tournament appearances in eight seasons from 1991-99 including an appearance in the 1997 NCAA Division II national championship game. Dugan guided USI to a 30-2 record in 1997 that included 29 straight wins.   In 1997-98, Dugan picked up GLVC Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, leading USI to another regular-season title and capturing the inaugural GLVC Tournament at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.   Dugan's players have accumulated a combined eight first-team all-conference (GLVC, TAAC/Atlantic Sun, Sun Belt) selections, 12 second team, 13 third team/honorable mention, four conference Players of the Year, one Defensive Player of the Year and two Freshman of the Year awards.   A four-year letter winner for Eastern Kentucky University (1978-82), Dugan was a three-year starter and finished her junior and senior seasons as the Lady Colonels' leading rebounder and second-leading scorer. She earned a bachelor of science in physical education from EKU and a master of arts in physical education from Morehead State University.

Shannon Litton

Assistant Coach

Litton has been an assistant for the Bellarmine University women's basketball team under Coach Chancellor Dugan since 2012, but their relationship extends far beyond their days together with the Knights. Litton has been by Dugans side since their days at Southern Indiana, which continued at Florida Atlantic. The duo had success in both stops, leading USI to a 30-2 season in 1996-97 that included 29 straight wins and a national runner-up finish, and guiding Florida Atlantic to the 2005-06 Atlantic Sun championship. In 2015-16, Litton helped return Bellarmine to the prominence not witnessed in the program since the 1990s, as the Knights tied the program record for best win percentage in a season (85.7) after finishing 24-4. BU's 15-3 mark in the GLVC tied its best output among its 18-game conference seasons. Litton then helped guide Bellarmine to an unprecedented GLVC Tournament championship after an upset over No. 10 Drury, 80-77, in the semifinals and an 89-78 victory over No. 22 Quincy in the finals. That set the stage for a Selection Sunday in which it was announced that Bellarmine earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2008. The Knights entered the Big Dance ranked 20th in the nation. Litton helped the new coaching staff make an immediate impact on Bellarmine in its first season. Inheriting a program coming off two losing seasons, Litton assisted in the turnaround of the Knights in 2012-13 and helped lead the team to a 19-11 record that included a 10-1 start. Bellarmine has advanced to the GLVC Tournament in each season of Litton's tenure, and the Knights have earned seven All-GLVC notices, including 2014-15 co-Freshman of the Year Raven Merriweather. Originally from Maysville, Kentucky, Litton graduated from Mason County High School after helping lead the girls' basketball team to three Kentucky state tournament berths. She played collegiately at Morehead State, graduating in 1993 with a degree in physical education and health. After graduating from MSU, she was the head JV and assistant varsity coach at Monroe County and Fleming County before joining Dugan at USI.
