Ryan McCleney
Associate Head Coach
Ryan McCleney joined the Belmont Abbey baseball program as an assistant in 2013 and was promoted to associate head coach in August. He served as the recruiting coordinator while also focusing on hitting and infielders. Over his eight seasons, the Crusaders have been near the top of the Conference Carolinas standings, winning the league tournament and advancing to the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2016. Last year, The Abbey just missed a regional bid, falling in the final at-bat of the league championships. McCleney began his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, helping the Braves to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship. UNCP climbed from 30th in the NCAA Division II preseason poll all the way to No. 3 -- their highest-ever ranking -- during the season, posting a 44-12 record. It led the Peach Belt Conference in four offensive categories, while ranking in the top 20 nationally in six. The Braves enjoyed three straight 30-win seasons during his stint at UNC Pembroke. During his time in Pembroke, McCleney spent his summer coaching the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League, first as an assistant in 2011, then as head coach for two years. His teams posted a record of 89-73 over three seasons. McCleney played baseball at Barton College, graduating in 2010 with a degree in Physical Education. In 2012, he earned a master’s degree in Physical Education at The University of North Carolina Pembroke. The native of Chadbourn, North Carolina, now resides in York, South Carolina, with his wife, Meagan, and infant daughter, Harper Leigh.
