Jeff Langdon

Coach

Langdon is Belmonts Director of Cross Country and Track and Field.  While this new title was given to him in 2013, Langdon has been coaching in one capacity or another since 1986, when he started out as a part-time assistant coach.  His initial coaching experience was as the womens cross country coach, but he soon took over both programs in the early 1990s up until Belmont moved to NCAA Division I.  At that time, he became Head Cross Country and Track Coach for the mens team, a position he held until he was named Director. During his tenure as the mens coach, Belmonts cross country program reached unprecedented heights, capturing an Atlantic Sun record six consecutive conference championships from 2002-2007.  During this time, Langdon coached numerous individual conference champions and all-conference performers.  During this time frame, his teams finished in the top four the NCAA South Region Championships on 3 different occasions.  In addition, Langdon has seen his athletes qualify for the NCAA National Cross Country Championships six times, including William Kemey, who qualified a record four times. All told, Langdon has produced 18 All-South Region performers.  Adding to the teams competitive success, they have also excelled in the classroom.  During the 2005 and 2007 seasons, Belmonts cross country team achieved the highest GPA in the nation and they are historically ranked in the top-20 nationally in overall team GPA.  On the track, several athletes have qualified for the NCAA Regional Track Championships.  In 2007, Belmont was one of only two schools (Wisconsin was the other) to have three individual regional qualifiers in the 5000-meters:  Jacob Buckman (14:10), Ryan Snellen (14:03), and Kipkosgei Magut (14:02).  In 2011, current assistant coach Joe Frye qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the Hammer Throw; in 2013, Matt Miller qualified in the 10,000-meters and in 2012 and 2014, Marcus Bridger- Wilkinson qualified in the 1500-meters, making it through to the second round each year.  For Langdon, coaching is a natural extension from his competitive days at Belmont where he ran from 1979-1983 under Coach Dave Young.  He was an outdoor track All-American in the Marathon (2:24:50), and the 1982 NAIA District 24 individual champion.  Langdon has been inducted into both his high school and colleges Halls of Fame.  A native of Fairfield, Ohio, Jeff and his wife, Kelly, are founding members of Grace Community Church in Brentwood, Tenn.  They have one daughter, Jenna who is 17 years old and an All-State hurdler.
