Jim Scanlan
Head Coach
Scanlan led the Beavers to their most wins in program history (21) and the program's second-ever trip to the WCHA Final Face-Off. Following the season, Scanlan was named USCHO.com National Coach of the Year and WCHA Coach of the Year. Scanlan led BSU to a 10-win improvement from the previous season and five wins over teams that finished in the top 10 nationally. The Beavers also posted three wins against teams that went to the Frozen Four, which included handing the eventual national champions, University of Minnesota, two of its three losses this season. Bemidji State won or split the season series with five of the seven WCHA institutions in 2014-15. Included in that group, was winning the season series from rival University of Minnesota Duluth. It was the first time in program history that the Beavers have taken the season series from the Bulldogs. Scanlan became the fifth head coach in BSU womens hockey history on June 17, 2014. Prior to being hired at BSU, he spent six season as head coach of the East Grand Forks High School girls ice hockey team compiling an overall record of 110-51-6 (.677). His 2013-14 Green Wave team posted a 26-3-1 record, earned a Section 8A championship and climbed to No. 1 in the states Class A ranks before falling to The Blake School, 3-2, in the 2014 Minnesota State High School League championship game. After the season, Scanlan, a two-time Section 8A Coach of the Year, was named Minnesota Class A Coach of the Year. Scanlan was also the boys hockey coach from 1996-2005 during which he led the Green Wave to a 148-109-15 (.572) record. He led the East Grand Forks boys to four section titles (1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002), and four Minnesota State Tournament appearances (1989, 1999, 2001 and 2002), finishing as high as second in 1999. Scanlan was named Section 8A Boys Coach of the Year in 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002. In addition to his teaching and coaching responsibilities, Scanlan has served as the Green Waves activities director since 2000. Scanlan also has 12 years of collegiate coaching experience. He was an assistant coach for the University of North Dakota mens ice hockey team from 1989-1996, at Western Michigan University from 1985-1989 and was a graduate assistant coach at Northern Michigan University in 1984-85. During his time at the collegiate ranks, Scanlans teams, comprised of six All-American selections, 38 all-conference picks and 67 academic all-conference honorees, posted a 207-208-26 (.499) overall record and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Scanlan is a 1985 graduate of Bemidji State with a degree in physical education and health. He later earned a masters degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic administration from Western Michigan University in 1988. As a collegiate goaltender, Scanlan played for legendary R.H. Bob Peters at Bemidji State from 1978-1982. A four-year letterwinner, the captain was in net 85 times, logging a career record of 62-19-0, while backstopping the Beavers to a NCHA regular season title in 1982 and four consecutive trips to the NAIA national tournament, including national titles in 1979 and 1980. The in 1982, Scanlan was selected as an NAIA All-American to conclude the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons. Scanlan also left his mark on the BSU goaltending records. He remains amongst the top ten in six major goaltending categories. He is fifth on BSUs save percentage list (.907), eighth in goals against average (2.821), is third on BSUs goaltending victories list (62), ranks sixth on the Beavers career saves list (2,211) and his 4,807 minutes in net stand eighth in Beaver hockey history. In addition, only one goaltender in the 58 years of Bemidji State hockey has accumulated more shutouts during his career than Scanlans nine. Was enshrined into the Bemidji State Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1978-79 and 1979-80 mens hockey teams, Scanlan was named as one of the Bemidji State mens hockey programs 50 Legends for 50 Years in 2005-06. Scanlan has been active in several Minnesota State High School League initiatives, Region 8A, USA Hockey and the American Hockey Coaches Association. He has also been active on Bemidji States mens hockey national hockey committee, the East Grand Forks Blue Line Club and the East Grand Forks Sports Booster Club. Scanlan and his wife Cyndy are both Bemidji State graduates and have three grown children: Briana, a former BSU soccer player and 2012 graduate, Jaclyn, a senior soccer player at North Dakota State University and Joey, who is an incoming freshman at BSU. 43-28-4 (.600) in two seasons (through 2015-16 season). Amber Fryklund
Assistant Coach
Fryklund Associate Head Coach Amber Fryklund enters her sixth season with the Bemidji State University womens ice hockey team with 2016-2017 being her first year as associate head coach. Under Fryklund's guidance, the Bemidji State program has been on the rise as of late having piled up two 20-win seasons and advanced to the WCHA Final Face-Off Championship game. Under her tutelage, BSU has produced a national team player, the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, seven All-WCHA awards, and two All-American awards. Fryklund instructs the Beavers forwards and penalty killing unit along with video breakdown, recruiting, team travel and academics. The Beavers coaching staff guided Bemidji State to a program record 22 wins in 2015-16. Fryklund knows the Bemidji State University hockey program well and is the schools all-time leading scorer after tallying 122 points from 2000-03. Fryklund helped lay the groundwork for the Bemidji State womens hockey program in its infancy. She became the first womens player to surpass the 100-point milestone and remains the schools leader in both points and goals scored and is second all-time in assists. Fryklund was also BSUs first All-Western College Hockey Association selection with a second team nod following the 2001-02 season. Following her collegiate career, Fryklund went on to play for the Minnesota Blue Jays Senior A Team and Duluth North Stars Senior A team before playing in 2006-07 for the Minnesota Whitecaps. Fryklund not only brings a familiarity with the Bemidji State University womens hockey program but also a familiarity with high school hockey in the state of Minnesota. The native of Hibbing, Minn., who was once a Miss Minnesota Hockey Finalist in her prep playing days, was co-head coach of the Duluth Northern Stars from 2004-09 and an assistant coach for the Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall Mirage during the 2009-2011 seasons. In addition, Fryklund has worked hockey camps across the state of Minnesota and works with the Minnesota Hockey High Performance Girls 15 Development program. She has also spent time working with USA Hockey Development camps for the past four summers. Fryklund also serves on the NCAA Division I Mens and Womens Ice Hockey Rules Committee. Prior to returning to Bemidji State University, Fryklund spent seven years teaching physical education to students grades five through eight at the Marshall School and Duluth Public Schools Academy, both in Duluth, Minn. Fryklund received her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education teaching K-12 from Bemidji State in 2003. She received her Masters degree in educational leadership from University of Minnesota Duluth in 2007.

Shane Veenker
Assistant Coach
Veenker has helped the Beavers earn their first winning season in program history along with the teams first and highest national ranking of No. 7. He has also coached the first All-American and Olympian in program history in goaltender (Bratislava, Slovakia) and helped guide Bemidji State to the WCHA Final Face-Off in 2010. Veenker joined the Beaver staff after serving as an assistant coach for the Bemidji High School girls hockey team, before which he head coached the Bagley-Fosston High School boys hockey team. The native of Windom, Minn. played high school hockey for his hometown team and before graduating from Bemidji State University in 1993 and 2001. While attending BSU, Veenker was employed for four seasons as the manager of the mens hockey team, where he worked under legendary Beaver hockey coach R.H. 'Bob' Peters. Veenker has worked extensively with the USA Hockey Development Program serving as a Select 14, 15, 16, and 17 coach. He also has previous work experience in the World League of American Football (NFL Europe) and as a graduate assistant for the University of Minnesota football team.

Jessica Havel
Assistant Coach
Havel previously played a season of proffesional hockey for Gothenburg Hockey Club in Gothenburg, Sweden. Havel is just one of four Bemidji State players to of inked a professional contract. A 2014 graduate of Bemidji State, Havel was a goaltender for BSU from 2009-13. The Grand Rapids, Minn. native totaled 30 career games and 1,490 minutes played during her career as a Beaver. As a senior in 2012-13, Havel logged two shutouts after playing in a career-high 23 games.
