Frank Hyland

Head Coach

Hyland begins his ninth season as head coach of the Benedict College mens and womens cross country and track and field teams. A native of Trinidad & Tobago, Hyland earned his Bchelor of Science degree from Barber-Scotia College in Concord, NC. As head coach for cross country and track and field for the Tigers, he develops the program from the ground up by recruiting the right men and women and by setting policies and procedures, as well as the programming that will define the character of the elite student-athlete. His motto is: Youve got to do what you have to do, to do what you want to do! And there should be no excuses, just results. He has coached 24 conference championship teams in the NAIA as the former coach of Voorhees College, Denmark, SC, and he is the first coach in the SIAC to defeat Morehouse College in the mens cross country championships and to also produce an individual champion at the NCAA South Regional Championship in 2007 from the SIAC. He has coached seven Individual cross country champions and 30 individual champions in mens and womens track and field. He has also produced 10 NCAA Division II All-Americans since 2005. He was also named the 2012 NCAA South Region Womens Indoor Coach of the Year and 2012 NCAA South Region Outdoor Coach of the Year  A good presenter, Hyland is an active member of the prestigious Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. and USTFCCCA, and serves as a volunteer counselor with the BC Summer Sports Fun Camp. He is a certified Coach by the USATF Level 1 and Level 2 Programs in the areas of Sprints/Hurdles/ Relays.
