Christopher Stokes
Head Coach
In July, 2022, Harry Stokes was named Head Women's Golf Coach at Bethune-Cookman University "We're extremely excited to have Coach Stokes here at B-CU," B-CU Athletic Director Reggie Theus said. "He comes from a long line of golf professionals and coaches. He knows what it will take to be successful on and off the course." Stokes is a fourth generation professional. His uncle, Robert Schwab, is a golf pro in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; his grandfather Pat Schwab was the head coach at Jacksonville University and a long-time tour club professional and a member of the New Jersey PGA Hall of Fame. His great grandfather Harry Schwab won the 1953 Senior PGA Championship and was a long-time professional in Dayton, Ohio. Stokes played on the Florida Professional Golf Tour, the North Florida PGA (NFPGA) section and Mid-Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) section. He has served as the PGA Associate Member/Assistant Golf Professional at Maryland Golf and Country Clubs in Bel Air, MD and Sugar Mill Country Club in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. "I'm really excited about our team this year," Stokes said "B-CU has long been widely regarded as one of the best HBCU programs in the country, and I can't wait to get back to that level of competition. There is stout competition in the Daytona Beach area, as well as the SWAC, and we're looking forward to being back in the mix and competing for championships again."

Loritz Clark
Coach
Clark. Affectionately known as Scooter throughout the golfing community, Clark certainly knows what it takes to assemble a team and turn it into a championship-caliber squad. Scooter Clark is now in his fifth year directing the mens and womens golf program at Bethune-Cookman. Using the Daytona Beach environment to his advantage, he has continued upon the success of his predecessor, the late Dr. Gary Freeman former longtime coach at B-CU. During the 2013-14 season, Clark added to his growing résumé, the honor of helping the B-CU mens team win the inaugural Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship in Savannah, Georgia. In the process, Ryan Fricker won the first-ever MEAC individual medalist trophy, while also claiming the leagues initial automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. For the sophomore from Ivybridge, England, the trip to the NCAA Regional was his second consecutive under Clark. For their victory, the Wildcats mens team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals as well, marking the first time in school history the Maroon and Gold had achieved the feat. Meanwhile, Ryan Fricker became the first player in school history to collect consecutive appearances in the NCAA postseason. The Wildcats travelled to the NCAA Raleigh [N.C.] Regional, finishing 13th overall. Just prior to the NCAA Mens Regional, the Wildcats mens and womens squads once again swept the PGA Minority Collegiate Championships in Port St. Lucie, Florida. It marked the second consecutive year the Wildcats mens and womens programs swept the annual minority championship. Bethune-Cookman won its seventh title in the Division I Men's competition, while in the Womens Division; Bethune-Cookman claimed its Championship-record 11th title. Overall, it marked the fourth time that the men and women from Bethune-Cookman won both titles in the same year. The womens team also claimed their fourth consecutive MEAC Showcase, hosting the tournament at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. Andrea Orozco claimed the individual title for the event, while freshman Alice Plumb claimed her highest finish of the year in second place. During the 2012-13 season, Clark helped the Wildcats to a sweep at the PGA National Minority Championships, while Andrea Orozco took the individual title for the 27th annual event. Patrizia Trevisan finished third in helping the womens team claim the title. The mens team used a variety of players, including Matthew McKnight and Ryan Fricker to earn the title. Following the regular season, Fricker became the first B-CU golfer since Phillip Worthington in 1999 to earn a trip to the NCAA Regional, collecting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tallahassee [Fla.] Regional. He finished the event tied for 60th, becoming the first player under Clark to ever reach the NCAA postseason tournament. A native of Silver Spring, Md., Scooter Clark was named head coach on April 26, 2010 by Director of Athletics Lynn W. Thompson, following the retirement of longtime head coach Dr. Gary Freeman. Since that time, he has continued upon the international family atmosphere Bethune-Cookman has grown from in years past. The roster for both men and women is comprised of student-athletes from all over the world, and Clark is one to keep the international pipeline alive and well. Since graduation from the University of Maryland in 1994 with a degree in Criminal Justice, Clark has served in the golfing community and throughout the industry in a multitude of areas. As a Terrapin, Clark lettered for two seasons under current PGA Tour Professional Frederick Fred Funk, currently competing on the Champions Tour. At the time of his hiring, Clark was ecstatic about the opportunity given to him to coach at Bethune-Cookman and in the state of Florida. The program that Coach [Gary] Freeman and Coach [Jack] Cy McClairen have in place has been a good one, and I want to continue the growth, stated Clark back in 2010. I have known Coach Freeman for over 20 years dating back to my time at Maryland. Im just excited and looking forward to coaching the mens and womens teams here at B-CU. In 2011, Clark coached Matthew McKnight to an individual medalist honor at the National Minority Golf Championships, in addition to Kim Wong picking up individual honors in consecutive years in 2010 and 11. Recently, Clark saw his first former student-athlete compete for a shot at the PGA Tour, as Willie Mack III took part in several qualifying events throughout the fall. Upon the passing of the legendary Dr. Gary Freeman in 2011, Scooter began the Gary Freeman Invitational, bringing in top-level competition from across the country for a weekend golf tournament at LPGA International Golf Club. In 2013, the event will move to Halifax Plantation in nearby Ormond Beach, Fla. Scooter Clark is no stranger to the Division I level of coaching, having spent three years (2001-04) at Chicago State University as the head coach of the womens program. Following a successful stint at CSU, he stepped away from the collegiate ranks to serve as Golf Operations Manager for Disney Sports Attractions from 2005-08. He then spent two years working at The Golf Channel from 2008-10 serving as Course Operations Manager for the New Media Department. At the time of his hire, B-CUs Lynn Thompson had nothing but praise for the up-and-coming Clark. Replacing a collegiate golfing legend like Gary Freeman is virtually impossible. However, we have identified someone with the same core values, work ethic and talent to continue to build upon the great success of our mens and womens golf programs. With his track record as a PGA teaching professional and his experience as a Division I head coach, I have no doubt that Scooter Clark will have a tremendous impact on our program and on our university.
