Casey Kear
Head Coach
Kear was hired as Head Coach of the BSC Men's Lacrosse program on June 13, 2013. "We are very pleased to have Casey Kear leading our men's lacrosse program," Athletic Director Joe Dean, Jr., said. "Casey has been extremely successful as both a player and coach during his career, and we feel he is the right person to take our program to the national level." Kear was an Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., from 2006-2013. His main responsibility was coordinating the defense, and he was also the recruiting coordinator. Kear coached two NCAA All-Americans at FMC, and helped lead the Diplomats to top-20 national rankings in each of the past three seasons and 21 total wins in the last two seasons. Kear is a 2006 graduate of State University of New York at Albany (SUNY Albany), where he received degrees in History and Sociology. He played varsity lacrosse for SUNY Albany, helping lead the Great Danes to the America East championships in 2004 and 2005. Prior to SUNY Albany, he attended Herkimer County Community College, winning the 2003 Junior College National Championship, and before that he attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 2001-2003. Kear has also helped direct Tom Cavallaro's All-Star Lacrosse Camps in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas over the past five years. "I would first like to thank General Krulak, Joe Dean and everyone else involved in the interview process for giving me the opportunity to be the new head coach of the men's lacrosse team at Birmingham-Southern College," Kear said. "I could not be more excited to work with the student athletes and help them reach their full potential. The college, athletic department and facilities are all top notch. The Birmingham-Southern athletic department has a rich history of success and I look forward to contributing to that." Carson Sterling
Head Coach
Carson Sterling was hired as the men’s lacrosse assistant coach in the summer of 2017. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Sterling was a four-year midfielder for Lenoir-Rhyne University. Sterling helped grow the program from the beginning stages to a conference championship squad. After playing at Lenoir Rhyne, Sterling joined the coaching staff for the 2017 season. He helped coach the Bears to a second straight undefeated conference championship season and a No. 7 national ranking. Helping the team to its first NCAA appearance in school history, along with coaching seven all- conference players, conference player of the year, conference freshman of the year and two USILA All-Americans. During Sterling's playing career, the Bears won two South Atlantic Conference regular season championships (2014 and 2016), the 2016 SAC tournament, and advanced to the league tournament finals three straight years (2014-16). Sterling was a team captain in 2016 as a senior and earned First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors while totaling 32 goals, 11 assists and 43 total points. In addition, Sterling was named the SAC Championship Most Valuable Player. For his Lenoir-Rhyne career, he totaled 63 goals, 26 assists and 89 total points. Sterling, a graduate of Riverside High School, was voted to the all-conference team four times and earned all-state accolades twice. He set the school's all-time leading point record.

Malik Pedroso
Assistant Coach
Pedroso was hired as Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach in September 2014. Pedroso was a standout player at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa., where he was a four-year starting attackman. He led the team in scoring in all four of his seasons on the squad, earning All-Conference honors all four years, and was 2011 MAC Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year. Pedroso was also a three-time Team MVP, recording 231 career points to help bring LVC from a brand new program to a perennial contender in the MAC Commonwealth Conference. Prior to his career at Lebanon Valley, Pedroso played at Chenango Valley High School in Binghamton, N.Y. "Coach Pedroso has a great feel for the game and he is a tireless worker," Head Coach Casey Kear said. "Most importantly, Malik has experience with a young program. He was a part of the change that occurred as LVC matured from a brand new program to a contender in their conference. He will be able to use that experience as we look to win our first Southern Athletic Association Championship here at BSC. I am looking forward to seeing his impact on this program as he works with our team, particularly on the offensive end of the field."
