Megan Curry

Head Coach

Megan Curry is entering her first season as head coach of the Birmingham-Southern softball team. The newly inducted Samford Hall of Famer was recently head softball coach at Asbury University. At Asbury, Curry coached an NCCAA All-American, NCCAA Mideast All-Region players, and NCCAA Scholar-Athletes in her three seasons. Before becoming the head coach at Asbury, Curry spent one season as assistant coach at Mercer University and two seasons as assistant coach at Samford University. She gained years of experience in recruiting and skill development as well as coaching slap hitters, outfielders, and base running. This year, Curry was inducted into the Samford Sports Hall of Fame for her decorative collegiate career from 2013-16. At Samford, she was a four-year starter in the outfield and was named the 2016 Southern Conference Softball Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference three times. In 2016, she led the nation in doubles per game and was a Southern Conference Champion, First Team NFCA All-South Region selection, and NCAA Championship Tournament player. Curry also broke the Samford softball single-season records for hits, batting average, at-bats, doubles, and stolen bases. In her career, she broke records for hits, at-bats, and triples. She graduated in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Sports Administration.  Megan Curry was born in Louisville, Ky. but was raised in Paducah before coming to Fairhope in 2006. Her husband, Parker Curry, formerly played in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and is now on the UAB baseball staff. Now in Birmingham, Parker and Megan have a one-year-old daughter.

Sarah Cespedes

Assistant Coach

Sarah Cespedes enters her first season as the assistant softball coach of the Birmingham-Southern softball team.  Cespedes comes to BSC from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she played softball for five years. While at UAB Cespedes pitched 401.2 innings with a 3.33 career ERA. She made 132 appearances, pitching against softball powerhouse teams Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma. She recorded 294 strikeouts during her five year stint, including 87 her senior year.  She was a recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and is on path to finish her masters degree this fall.  Cespedes has most recently, coached for the travel ball team Firecrackers AL-Matthews 14U and 18U teams. Before her time as a Division 1 softball player, Cespedes led Chelsea High School to a 6A State Championship. She was named the 6A state MVP, Sportz Blitz Player of the Week, and Shelby County Player of the Year. In 2017 she was named to the 6A State Second Team, Birmingham All-Region Softball Team, and to the All-County First Team.  Cespedes has two brothers Luke and Jake. Jake played soccer at Faulkner University from 2015-2018.
