Seth Mischke
Head Coach
Mischke is in his fourth year as head coach of the Black Hills State University mens and womens track and field teams. In his short amount of time at Black Hills, Mischke helped guide the Yellow Jackets into NCAA Division II and has oversaw 46 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Conference honorees. He has coached two-time RMAC Champion Madison McLaughlin, the winner of the 2013 weight throw at the indoor championship and the 2014 outdoor shot put. Mischke has also helped guide the first two NCAA Division II national qualifiers in McLaughlin (2014 outdoor shot put) and Mitch Kraft (2014 3,000-meter steeplechase). Prior to Black Hills State, Mischke was the head track and field along with head cross country coach for 12 years at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. During his tenure at SCSU, the Husky athletic program produced 44 All-American Awards for 17 individuals and one national champion. He also coached four national runner-ups and three third place finishers. Mischkes teams sent 27 student-athletes to the NCAA Division II National Meet as qualifiers and coached 21 conference champions. Under his tutelage, the Huskies combined to break 43 school records between the mens and womens track and field programs. During his time at St. Cloud State, Mischke was twice named the conference coach of the year. He earned North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 2005 for mens indoor track and field and earned the Mens Outdoor Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year in 2011. A graduate of the University of Minnesota in 1997, Mischke was a two-time team captain. He claimed a runner-up finish in the Big Ten Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet in the pole vault. He followed that up at the 1997 Big Ten Outdoor Meet with a third place finish in the decathlon. His personal best during his collegiate career in the pole vault was 173 and a total of 7,026 points in the decathlon. Mischke, and his wife Colleen, have three children: Brooklyn, Tanner and Micah.

Scott Walkinshaw

Walkinshaw enters his 19th year at Black Hills State in 2016. Coach Walkinsahw has been the head cross country coach for all 19 years while previously the head coach of the track & field teams. He now serves as the assistant coach for track & field, leading the distance runners. The Yellow Jacket program has become nationally recognized as one of the top teams in the nation under his guidance, proving this through numerous top-five finishes in NAIA and leading the Green and Gold to a 14th place finish at the 2015 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship. The 2015 season was of historic significance as the Yellow Jackets won four meets, including the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational that was won by All-American Alec Baldwin. After placing sixth at the RMAC Championships, the Green and Gold went to the South Central Region Championship and placed sixth again to claim a spot in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship. Entering the meet with a No. 22 national ranking, Black Hills State ran its way to a 14th place finish behind a ninth place All-American finish by Alec Baldwin. In 2014, Walkinshaw coached Alec Baldwin into the national meet becoming the second-ever qualifier in the NCAA-era at the meet, following the footsteps of Mitch Kraft at the 2013 competition. Prior to the NCAA, Walkinshaw built a powerhouse in the NAIA, including a fourth-place finish at the NAIA Combined National Championships in 2010, a third place finish in the combined championship in 2005 and 2006, a fifth place finish in 2003 and a runner-up combined finish in 200. Walkinshaw guided the Yellow Jackets to 12 Dakota Athletic Conference Championships while helping 32 runners earn NAIA Cross Country All-American honors. Walkinshaw also coached Lisa Bomengen, who was selected as the 1999-2000 South Dakota Sports Writers College Female Athlete of the Year. Coach Walkinshaw has been chosen to be a guest speaker at many different events some of which include: Wyoming Coaches Association Annual Meeting, South Dakota High School Activities Association and a guest clinician at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships. He is also the director of the Black Hills Distance Running camp. Before his legendary tenure at Black Hills State, Walkinshaw coached at Odessa College and Garden City Community College. He also coached high school cross country in Utah for eight years where he was named the 1983 Utah Cross Country Coach of the Year. Womens Team
