Ryan Mahon

Head Coach

Ryan Mahon enters his ninth season as Blinn College’s head football coach.    Mahon holds a 35-40 record across eight seasons with the Buccaneers.   In 2024, the Bucs finished 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC). Four players earned All-SWJCFC first-team honors, including sophomore offensive linemen Eric Aschenbeck and Abram Nicklas, defensive lineman Justin Garza, and punter Breck Chambers. Sophomore linebacker Jadon Ducos was a second-team selection, while eight Buccaneers landed on the honorable mention list. Additionally, Chambers was named to the 2024 NJCAA DI Football All-America first team, while Garza was a second-team honoree. Aschenbeck was an honorable mention. Fifteen Buccaneers signed with four-year programs after the season.  In 2021, the Buccaneers qualified for the SWJCFC playoffs following a 5-5 season, including a 3-4 record in conference play. Additionally, 14 players were named to the SWJCFC all-conference team, including first-team selections Joshua Berry (running back), Trent Pullen (offensive line), Bryton Thompson (defensive line); second-team selections Kaghen Roach (defensive line), Nate Dyman (linebacker), Justice Ugochukwu (defensive back), and Collin Brown (defensive specialist); and honorable mentions Tre Harden (wide receiver), Tristen Hickman (offensive line), Alejandro Quintero (kicker), Will Prendergast (defensive line), Ladarius Henry (defensive back), Blake Thompson (defensive back), and Ty Warrick (punter). Berry and Thompson were also named 2021 NJCAA Division I All-American honorable mentions.   In 2018, the Buccaneers defeated 14th-ranked Scottsdale Community College 23-20 in the Valley of the Sun Bowl. Blinn was ranked as high as sixth in the nation and finished the season 15th.   In 2017, Mahon led the Buccaneers to their first playoff berth since 2013 after claiming a SWJCFC co-championship and qualifying for the El Toro Bowl. Blinn finished the season ranked 12th in the nation. Blinn was ranked in the top 10 in the nation for six consecutive weeks and reached as high as No. 4 in the national rankings.   Under Mahon, 89 Buccaneers have earned NJCAA All-America or All-Region XIV Conference honors. Antwuan Jackson Jr., Vonte Davis, Corrion Ballard, D'Anthony Hopkins, and Earnest Patterson earned both All-America and all-conference honors. Jackson was named the SWJCFC Most Valuable Player in 2017, and Ballard was named the All-Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.   Seven former Buccaneers who played under Mahon have signed with National Football League teams. Most recently, Xavier Hutchinson was drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, while Danny Gray signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Keric Wheatfall signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 draft. Kendall Sheffield signed with the Atlanta Falcons after being selected in the fourth round in 2019. Additionally, undrafted free agents Corrion Ballard signed with the Carolina Panthers, Javier Edwards signed with the Houston Texans, Jhavonte Dean signed with the Cleveland Browns, and Josh Nurse signed with the Baltimore Ravens.   Mahon came to Blinn after one year as Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College’s offensive coordinator. Before that, Mahon spent 10 seasons at Tyler Junior College, the last eight years as offensive coordinator and associate head coach. During his tenure at Tyler, Mahon coached eight NJCAA All-Americans, two Southwest Junior College Football Conference offensive MVPs, one SWJCFC MVP, and 34 all-conference offensive selections.   Before his successful run at Tyler, Mahon served as the running backs coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce for one season (2004). In 2003 and 2004, Mahon was the running backs/receivers coach at Feather River (Calif.) College.   A native of La Grande, Ore., Mahon played quarterback at Eastern Oregon University, where he was a four-year letter winner.   He earned his Bachelor of Science in History at Eastern Oregon University and his Master of Education in Health and Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Tyler. Mahon and his wife, Pam, reside in Brenham with their sons, Ty and Eli, and their beagle, Kate.

Andy Felton

Assistant Coach

Andy Felton enters his eighth season with the Buccaneers.  Felton came to Blinn after serving as the offensive line coach at Fullerton College for two seasons.  During Felton’s first season with Blinn, the Buccaneers finished the year ranked 15th in the nation. Blinn led the nation in total offense with 5,493 yards and in yards per game with 499.4. The Buccaneers ranked second in the nation in passing yards with 3,241 yards and in passing touchdowns with 34. They defeated 14th-ranked Scottsdale Community College 23-20 in the Valley of the Sun Bowl.    Taking over the defense last season, Coach Felton led one of the most aggressive defenses in the country as the Buccaneers finished second in the nation in sacks.  While at Fullerton, Felton helped lead the Hornets to a 25-1 record and back-to-back California Community College Athletic Association championships. With Felton’s offensive line leading the way, the Hornet offense finished in the top five in the nation in numerous offensive categories, including first in scoring offense (54.2), total offense per game (556.6), and yards per carry (6.4).  Prior to Fullerton, Felton spent two seasons as the offensive line coach for Riverside City College (RCC). While at RCC, the Tigers posted an 18-5 record, won back-to-back conference championships, and earned two state playoff berths. Riverside City’s offense ranked in the top 20 in the state in 19 categories, including rushing offense, total offense, and scoring offense. The offensive line helped generate 204.2 rushing yards per game and 5.1 yards per rush.  Coach Felton spent 2009-2013 at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. While there, the offense set or tied 10 school records. Additionally, he ran the return teams, which set or tied six school records. NDSCS received a berth to the Graphic Edge Bowl in 2009.  Prior to NDSCS, Felton had stops at Whittier College (2005-09) and Citrus College (2001-04). At Whittier, he served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, mentoring a first-team all-conference quarterback who led the conference in total offense and broke numerous school records. While at Citrus College, Felton served as the defensive coordinator and helped lead the Owls to a conference championship and a berth in the South County Bowl.  Before joining the college ranks as a coach, Felton coached at Covina High School (1999-2001), Damien High School (1998), Ayala High School (1995-97), and at his alma mater, Glen A. Wilson High School (1992-94).  Coach Felton earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from California State University at Fullerton and master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University.  Andy and his wife, Shannon, live in Katy. They have four children, Bethanne, Ryleigh, Cadi, and Andrew.

Danny Palmer

Assistant Coach

Danny Palmer is in his first season as defensive coordinator for the Blinn College football team. With nearly a half century of coaching experience, Palmer is one of the most respected names in collegiate coaching. Palmer joined Blinn following four season as offensive line coach at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, La. Most notably, Palmer spent 13 seasons as head coach of Tyler Junior College (2006-2018). During his time with the Apaches, Palmer worked with current Blinn head coach Ryan Mahon for 10 seasons, including eight in which Mahon served as Palmer's offensive coordinator. Palmer finished with a 75-49 record with seven playoff appearances. He also helped more than 100 players sign with four-year universities. Palmer's coaching career includes stints as head coach at Texarkana, Pampa, Waco Richfield and Bonham high schools, and assistant coaching positions at UT-Arlington, Oklahoma State University, Northwest Mississippi Community College, Austin Peay State University, Texas Southern University and University of Houston. Palmer also previously served as the athletic director and head football coach at Chavez High School in Houston. Among a myriad of coaching achievements, Palmer was named the 1977 District 8-5A Coach of the Year, the 1978 Central Texas Coach of the Year, the District 10-4A Coach of the Year, and in 1996 was nominated for the Frank Broyles College Assistant Coach of the Year while a member of the University of Houston staff.  During his time with Houston, Palmer played a role in signing 64 players, 16 of which went on to play in the NFL. Additionally, Palmer was inducted into the Tyler ISD Hall of Fame in 2015. Palmer is from Tyler, Texas, where he starred on the gridiron, baseball diamond, and basketball court for Tyler High School. Palmer was a member of the 1968 Texas All-State baseball team and was recruited by legendary Blinn baseball head coach Leroy Dreyer. Palmer ultimately signed with the University of Southern Mississippi football team as a quarterback, and played for the Golden Eagles from 1969-71. Palmer earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Mississippi, and later earned a Masters in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1987. Palmer and his wife Sharon have been married for 54 years. They have two daughters, Bethany and Stacy, and three grandchildren, Benny, Myles, and Brianna.

Chuck Parsons

Assistant Coach

Chuck Parsons begins his 28th season in college football and 10th at Blinn College. Parson serves in a football operations role for the Buccaneers, with a focus on recruiting.  As recruiting coordinator, Parsons helps guide the program’s high school recruiting efforts and outgoing player recruitment. Since arriving in 2014, he has helped more than 160 players advance to four-year universities, including more than 120 to NCAA Division I schools.  Parsons spent 10 years at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS), where he was hired as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach in 2003. In 2005, he was promoted to assistant head coach, and in 2007, he was appointed head coach and defensive coordinator. Twice during his time at NDSCS, the Wildcats made it to the Graphic Edge Bowl.  Prior to NDSCS, Parsons spent 2000-02 at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., where he worked with the defensive line, secondary, and linebackers. In 2000, NSU won the Lone Star Conference North Division and the overall league championship for the second straight year.  It also was the second consecutive season that the team qualified for the NCAA Division II National Playoffs.  Parsons began coaching at Southwest (Minn.) State University in 1997 as a student assistant working with the offensive line.  During his 27-year career, Parsons has coached or mentored 95 all-conference players, 70 all-region players, seven NJCAA All-Americans, five NJCAA players of the week, six conference players of the week, and two conference players of the year. As a position coach, he has coached 55 players who have signed with NCAA Division I schools and numerous others who have gone on to Division II, Division III, and NAIA schools.  Parsons earned his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Southwest State University, now Southwest Minnesota State University, in 2000 and his Master of Science in College Teaching in Health and Human Performance from Northeastern State University in 2002.

Kenneth Braimer

Assistant Coach

Kenneth Braimer begins his second season as an assistant football coach at Blinn College.  Braimer brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to his position with the Buccaneers. Prior to arriving at Blinn, Braimer served as a defensive graduate assistant at Illinois State University, where he worked with linebackers while also organizing special teams scout units. During his two seasons with ISU, the Redbirds finished with two top-25 FCS defenses while also having a Buck Buchanan Award Recipient and multiple All-Americans.  Prior to his run at ISU, Braimer earned his master's degree in health and human performance from Sul Ross State University while also serving as an offensive graduate assistant.   Braimer is an alumnus of Baylor University, where he studied business and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports strategy and sales and a master’s degree in sports management. While attending Baylor, Braimer worked as a player personnel student assistant for the Baylor football team, as well as a graduate assistant for the American Football Coaches Association.  Braimer also has ties to Blinn, where he earned an associate degree in business before transferring to Baylor.
