Gerald Holmes
Head Coach
Holmes fifteenth year guiding the Bloomfield College Mens Basketball program. He is the longest tenured coach at the college and his reign at the helm of the Bears has seen him become the architect of one of the preeminent powers in the East Region, and a perennial contender for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference(CACC) Tournament Championship. The 2013-2014 and 2008-2009 CACC Coach of the Year, Holmes has compiled a 255-164 career record during his time on the Bloomfield sideline. After finishing second in the CACC North Division, Holmes led Bloomfield to its sixth CACC Tournament Championship in his eleven years as head coach in 2012-2013 and second three-peat while also securing the Bears fifth NCAA Tournament berth in program history. After two consecutive seasons of knocking off the East Regional Tournament's top seed, Bloomfield fell in the opening round of the big dance in 2012-2013. The Cinderella Story Continues Having never reached beyond the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, Bloomfield would engineer the quintessential Cinderalla Run through the East Regional Tournament during the 2010-2011 season, knocking off the top three seeds en route to the first regional title in the conference's history. The lowest seed ever to win the East Regional, the seventh-seeded Bears earned the CACC's first berth in the Elite Eight, Division II Basketball's biggest stage, after capturing the fourth CACC Tournament crown in Holmes' tenure. The history-making campaign earned Holmes All-Met Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career. During the 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons, Coach Holmes led Bloomfield to three-straight CACC Championships and two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances only to repeat the feat in the 2010-2011, 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons. The first appearance in the NCAA Tournament was also the first in Bloomfield College history. During the 2004-2005 season, Holmes was honored as the All-Met Coach of the Year. Prior to being named Head Coach, Holmes spent one season as an assistant at Bloomfield College. He came to the Bloomfield campus via New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he spent two seasons as Assistant Mens Basketball Coach. On the high school level, Holmes spent six years at Columbia High School in South Orange, NJ where he served as JV Head Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach. A resident of West Orange, NJ, he holds a B.S. degree in Engineering Science from NJIT. In August of 2007 he was named in, Whos Who Among American Teachers and Educators for his dedication to making a significant difference in the lives of his students.
