Sarver was reunited with the Bluefield College tennis programs during the summer of 2011, being named head coach for both the mens and womens teams. Sarver owns a rich resume in tennis experience on a local, regional and national level. He is a graduate of Bluefield High School and attended Bluefield College (75) when it was a two-year institution. He played both tennis and basketball during his years at BC, and finished his degree at Bluefield State College in 1980. Sarver previously assisted with BC tennis in 1997, acting as a tennis professional liaison during a transitional time for the program. While coaching at the high school level, Sarver was nominated as a finalist for National High School Tennis coach of the Year in 1989. On the private sector, Sarver has been regarded as one of the leading figures for tennis professionals within the two Virginias. He has been the director of tennis and head professional at the Greenbrier, Tanglewood Park (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Black Knight Country Club, Parkersburg and Glade Springs Resort over the past two decades. He has served as President and CEO of the United States Tennis Associations (USTA) Mid-Atlantic Section and has also sat on the National Board of Directors for the USTA. Over the years, Sarver has certainly given back to his hometown and region. For nearly 30 years, Sarver was in education in both Mercer and Wythe County as he taught social studies and physical education. Much of his coaching experience comes during this span and includes time with Bluefield High School (boys and girls) for 15 seasons, Graham High School (girls) for eight seasons and Bland High School (boys and girls) for two seasons. Upon his hiring, Sarver commented, I have dedicated my life to the Bluefield area and surrounding communities, and I feel like this decision came down to timing. It was the perfect time and place in my life to join the Bluefield College community. Im excited to make this a competitive program moving forward. Sarver lives nearby in Bland, Va. He is married and has three children, Ashleigh, Andy and Grace. Ashleigh and Andy both played collegiate tennis at Virginia Tech, while Grace is currently a member of the Radford tennis team.
