Boston College Women's Field Hockey

Doton is the eighth head field hockey coach in Boston College history. The Greenfield, Massachusetts, native has been with the Eagles since 2012 when she joined the program as associate head coach. She held the same position at Indiana prior to her arrival at Boston College. In Doton's four seasons at The Heights, Boston College has posted double-digit wins each year and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons (2013-2015). In 2015, in Dotons first year at the helm, the Eagles tied a program best with 13 wins, finishing at 13-9 on the season. The team defeated six ranked opponents and amassed a 5-0 mark in overtime games. Among the highlights: Boston College earned its first-ever victory against Maryland, first-ever ACC Tournament victory and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. The Eagles ultimately fell to Connecticut to close the season.  In 2014, BC earned a program best 13 wins, going 13-7 on the season. BC tallied five wins against ranked opponents, including upsets over No. 2 UConn, No. 4 Syracuse, No. 7 Louisville, and No. 8 Virginia. The Eagles played in a program record eight overtime games. Doton, responsible for running BC's overtime plans, led BC to a 4-4 mark in those overtime contests. Doton's defense held opponents to just 1.89 goals per game on average throughout the season. The Eagles made the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, eventually falling to Penn State to end the season. In her second year, Doton helped the Eagles reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009. The Maroon and Gold tallied its 14th consecutive double-digit win season, going 12-8. BC tallied three victories over nationally-ranked opponents, including upsetting No. 5 Syracuse to open Atlantic Coast Conference play and at No. 2 Connecticut in overtime. In her first season at the Heights, the Greenfield, Mass., native helped BC to a 10-9 season, including wins against four nationally-ranked teams, including a home victory over No. 10 Northeastern and a road win over No. 21 Duke. The Eagles won their first four of five games, losing an overtime contest to instate rival Massachusetts. The Boston College field hockey program welcomed Kelly Doton as the team's associate head coach before the start of the 2012 season. Doton came to BC from Indiana University, where she had been coaching since 2008. Doton, a native of Greenfield, Mass., was an assistant coach for four seasons before being named the Hoosiers associate head coach in 2011. In 2009, she was instrumental in helping Indiana reach the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history after finishing second in league standings and reaching the Big Ten  Tournament title game. A 2004 graduate of Wake Forest, Doton was an asset to the Demon Deacons on both sides of the ball during her collegiate career, helping to lead her squad to back-to-back NCAA championships. Providing her team with her disciplined defensive skills, as well as quickly establishing herself as one of the best attack corner hitters in the country, she was honored as the 2003 Honda Award winner, the National Field  Hockey Player of the Year. In addition to being named the ACC Player of the Year in 2002, she was also a two-time NFHCA First-Team All-American and a three-time All-ACC honoree during her career. In 2008, she was part of the U.S. squad that traveled to the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She began her career with Team USA on the New Zealand Tour and scored her first international goal against Australia in 2005. Prior to playing at Wake, Doton was a standout at Greenfield High School, where she broke the school's scoring record as a senior and was tabbed as the team's MVP in 1999. She earned all-league honors in 1997 and 1998, in addition to being named to the All-Western Massachusetts Squad. She also earned Northeastern All-American honors as a sophomore.
