Lee Williams

Head Coach

Williams goals are straightforward. Basically, we want to show improvement in every match, win the ODAC Championship, and qualify for the NCAA Tournament.  Bridgewater reached the programs pinnacle moment under Williams in 2010 when the Eagles dethroned Guilford College to earn the schools first ever ODAC Championship. Williams also led then-junior Mike Redwood to the programs first individual title at the annual conference championship. In 2015-16, the Eagles set a new program and tournament scoring record at the Tom Kinder Memorial with an opening round 284. Senior Elijah Tackett earned his second straight GCAA All-American Scholar honor and was the ODACs Ted Keller Sportsman of the Year. In 2011, the Eagles took home the runner-up spot at the ODAC Championships, but more program milestones were reached when Redwood repeated as the conference indivudual flag winner. Redwood became the first player in ODAC history to repeat as the individual champion, and later became the first Bridgewater player to ever qualify as an individual for the NCAA Championships. Williams has coached 19 All-ODAC performers, including four-time honorees Redwood, John Phillips and Grady Ruckman. Williams teams have also set the team scoring record on six seperate occasions, most recently with a 303.3 team average during the 2010-11 season. Under Williams tutilege, the Eagles have claimed 25 tournament titles. He has earned ODAC Coach of the Year honors on three occasions. Dr. Williams came to Bridgewater in 1995 after spending four years as a professor of Computer Science at the United States Naval Academy. He served 22 years in the U.S. Navy as a surface warfare specialist and computer engineer and achieved the rank of Commander before his retirement in 1995. Following the 2013-14 academic year, Williams retired from teaching in the Colleges Math and Computer Sciences department after serving as the department chair and as a professor for 19 years.
