Shane Stevens

Head Coach

Stevens has molded the Eagles into one of the most competitive and respected teams in Division III Track and Field. In 2016, the Bridgewater College men and women won both ODAC indoor and outdoor titles. The women's team won their first ODAC Outdoor Championship since 1998. Bridgewater had two athletes qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships and three athletes qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Eagles also had three athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. The Bridgewater men won both the ODAC indoor and outdoor titles in 2015, with the women adding a second consecutive indoor conference title. The Eagles had a combined four NCAA individual qualifiers and four CoSIDA Academic All-District selections. In 2014, the men's team finished second at both of the ODAC Indoor Meet and the ODAC Outdoor Championships. The women's team earned their first ODAC title at the indoor meet and finished second at the outdoor championship meet. Stevens has been named ODAC Outdoor Coach of the Year 11 times and ODAC Indoor Coach of the Year seven times. He has been named the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Coach of the Year three times, including with the men's outdoor team in 2015 and the women's 2014 indoor team. Stevens is a 1979 graduate of Bridgewater and was an All-ODAC defensive back and captain of the BC football team. He also holds a master's in Business Administration from James Madison University. He serves as an instructor in the college's Math and Computer Science department along with his coaching duties. Stevens lives in Mt. Crawford along with his wife, Xan. The couple has two boys-Leland and Carson.

Brian Flynn

Flynn was named the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field in the summer of 2015, following five seasons as head cross country coach and as an assistant track coach specializing in distance. As director, Flynn oversees all of the cross country and track & field programs, permitting better coordination and planning for what for many student-athletes is a year-round activity. The 2015-16 season was a big year for the Bridgewater College track and field teams as the men and women both swept the conference championships to claim four ODAC titles. Flynn was tabbed ODAC Women's Coach of the Year for the indoor season and Men's Coach of the Year during the outdoor season. At the ODAC Indoor Championships, Flynn's men's distance runners contributed 47 of the team's 166 total points and Nevin Heckman claimed the ODAC title in the 800 meter. During the ODAC Outdoor Championships, Sam Gunter won the 800m and two other distance runners earned All-ODAC for the men's team, while Maryellen Hauver garnered All-ODAC in the 800 meter and Makenzie McDonald netted All-ODAC in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Flynn also saw one of his athletes compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as Sam Gunther qualified for the nationals in the 800 meter. In 2014-15, the Bridgewater track & field teams earned three ODAC titles, with the men sweeping and the women prevailing indoors. Luke Sohl won the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the league meet outdoors, along with a 5,000 meters indoor title. The women went 1-2 with Elizabeth Stump and Makenzie McDonald in the ODAC indoor mile. For the 2013-14 season, Flynn earn his third regional honor (including XC) as he was named South/Southeast region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the second time. As always, distance runners continue to flourish under Flynn's leadership. He saw both the men's and women's teams finish second in the ODAC Outdoor Championships, with the distance runners scoring 68 of the 147 points. The women's team saw Kaylee Kubisiak earn the Women's Athlete of the Meet after double first place finishes in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events. On the men's side, Luke Sohl captured the ODAC title in the 10,000 meter run. The conference meet saw eight All-ODAC performers from the distance group.  During the 2013 track season, the Bridgewater distance runners continued to excel. Luke Sohl was named the top performer at the ODAC Indoor championships after winning both the 1,600 and 3,000 meter events. Flynn's men's distance runners earned 55 out of the team's 124 points at the indoor meet. For the group's efforts, Flynn was named the South/Southeast region men's indoor track and field assistant coach of year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). For the women, Olivia Mills qualified for the outdoor national meet in the 5,000 meter run. At the conference championship meets, Flynn coached six individual event champions, plus the indoor championship winning distance medley relay squad. The 2011-12 season was more of the same for Flynn's runners. Sohl was named the top performer at the ODAC Outdoor championships after winning both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events. For the women, Mills qualified for the outdoor national meet in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meter events. Bridgewater distance runners broke five BC records during the 2012 indoor and outdoor seasons. At the conference meets, Flynn coach three event champions and a pair of runner-up finishers. During the 2010-11 track season, Flynn coached three All-ODAC performers during indoor season and one during outdoors. One of his runners, Olivia Mills, was named female athlete of the meet duirng the indoor and outdoor seasons. Mills was also a NCAA provisional qualifier in the 1500 meters during the outdoor season. Flynn is also the head coach of Bridgewater's cross country program. The Eagles swept the ODAC cross country championships in 2014 for a second straight year. The men qualified for NCAA championships, while Kaylee Kubisiak qualified as an individual on the women's side. Flynn also added his second ODAC Coach of the Year honor on each side. Keith Thomas and Tim Miller were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for a second straight year. In 2013, the Bridgewater women's team won the program's second ODAC title in three seasons behind a dominating effort. Flynn was named the ODAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year and his top runner, Kaylee Kubisiak, was named ODAC Runner of the Year. Bridgewater placed all five runners in the top 10 to easily win the program's second conference title with 22 total points, marking the best team performance at the league championship since 2003 when Lynchburg won the title with 20 points. Bridgewater's 22 points is the fourth-lowest total ever at the conference championships. Five runners earned All-ODAC recognition, while four competitors were named to the All-South/Southeast Region team. Kubisiak qualified for the national meet for the second straight season after leading the Eagles at the regional meet.  The 2013 men's team turned in the most successful season in program history as the Eagles reached the national meet as a team after hoisting the program's first South/Southeast region championship and its first ODAC title. Flynn was named the South/Southeast Region Coach of the Year and also was named the ODAC Coach of the Year. Five BC runners earned All-ODAC honors, while the Eagles also had five runners earn All-South/Southeast Region recognition. Flynn's runners also excel in the classroom as both the men's and women's cross country teams were recognized as All-Academic squads for the 2012 season by the USTFCCCA. Tim Wisniewski was named the ODAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was also pegged to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District team. Ryan Speray joined Wisniewski on the Academic All-District squad.  Flynn came to Bridgewater College after one year as a Division I assistant coach at University of North Carolina-Greensboro. While there, he coached four all-conference cross country runners and helped lead the men's cross country team to its highest finish in school history at the conference and NCAA regional meets. Prior to coaching at UNCG, Flynn spent three seasons as an assistant coach in cross country and track and field at Coe College, a Division III school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Flynn coached five All-Americans and 13 conference champions. Flynn is no stranger to the ODAC as he competed at Lynchburg College where he was a four-time all-conference runner in cross country. On the track he earned five ODAC individual titles and was a 12-time all-conference nominee. He was a member of eight ODAC championship track teams and two cross country championship teams. Flynn is a member of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and USA Track and Field. He is a USA Track & Field Level 1 Certified Coach.

Denver Davis

Coach

Davis begins his seventh season as an assistant coach with the Bridgewater College Eagles Men's and Women's Track & Field programs. Davis works with the men's and women's jumpers, and women's sprints, hurdles and relays. In 2106, Davis was named USTFCCCA Women's South/Southeast Region Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Davis' jumpers and sprinter played a vital role in helping Bridgewater claim four ODAC titles. At the ODAC Indoor Championships, his athletes on the women's team scored 98.5 of the team's 135 points and set several meet records, and his athletes on the men's team produced 89 of the team's 166 points. During the ODAC Outdoor Championships, the women's jumpers and sprinters contributed 103 of the team's 164 points to help win their first outdoor title since 1998, while the men's jumpers and sprinters chipped in 106 of the team's 182 points. Davis also sent two athletes to both the indoor and outdoor national championships. He coached his first group of All-Americans as sophomore Amber Celen was All-American in the indoor 200m, outdoor 200m and outdoor 100m, and senior Kristen Trice was All-American in the outdoor triple jump. The Bridgewater Women's Outdoor Track and Field team finished 12th in the nation with Trice and Celen's efforts. During his six years with the program, Davis has coached four All-Americans, six NCAA qualifiers, eight All-South/Southeast Region honorees, 39 ODAC individual champions and 95 All-ODAC performers in Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field. His athletes have set a total of six ODAC records and three ODAC Championship Meet records and have claimed one NCAA Elite 90 award, one ODAC Athlete of the Meet award, six ODAC Rookie of the Year awards and one ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar Athlete of the Year award. For his efforts, Davis has been recognized as the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year five times since 2012 for men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. Prior to coming to Bridgewater, Davis served as associate head coach for boys and girls cross country and track & field at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Va., from 2005-2010. Davis is no stranger to the ODAC either, having competed for Lynchburg College for four years as a member of the men's cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. While at LC, Davis was member of two cross country ODAC champion teams, four indoor track and field ODAC champion teams and four outdoor track and field ODAC champion teams. Davis received his bachelor's degree in History from LC in 2005 and his master's degree in history from George Mason University in 2009. He serves as the recruiting coordinator for all Bridgewater College Cross Country and Track & Field programs and as an instructor in the Department of History and Political Science. Davis is a member of USA Track & Field and the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He holds a USA Track & Field Level 1 Coaching certification and holds a USTFCCCA Jumps Specialist Certification. Denver and his wife Ashley currently reside in Staunton, VA.
