Thomas Smith

Coach

Smith continued his role as head coach of the men's indoor and outdoor track teams and also served as the distance coach for the women's program.   In 2015, Smith guided the men's outdoor track team to its first-ever individual national title, as senior Chris Perry became the Division 3 outdoor champion in the triple jump, breaking his own school record (50 feet 11 inches).  The Bears also had another All-American at the national meet, as Conor Murtagh finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles.  Smith is a 2006 graduate of Stonehill College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.  At Stonehill, he was a four-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection in both cross country and track as well as a three-time all-region selection in cross country. Smith currently holds the Chieftains' outdoor track record in the 10,000 meter run (31:04.77). Presently a history teacher at Middleboro High School, Smith was an assistant coach for both cross country and track at Stonehill following his graduation.  He instructed three All-American athletes during the 2006-2007 academic year.
