Jill Reeve

Head Coach

Reeve, became the head coach of the Brown field hockey team in March 2011. Reeve joined the Bears staff following seven successful seasons as the head coach of the Miami Ohio field hockey program.  In June of 2014, Reeve was inducted into the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame. In her five seasons at College Hill, Reeve has coached 16 student-athletes to All-Ivy honors. In 2014, the team was recognized by the NFHCA for posting the nation's top grade point average. Reeve has also had numerous student-athletes achieve NFHCA academic honors in each of her five seasons.  In January of 2012, Reeve was a member of the United States U17 National Squad Camp coaching staff, where she instructed players over several days of practice at the Olympic Training Center. In seven years with the RedHawks, Reeve rebuilt the program, culminating with a 2010 season in which she guided Miami to a 14-7 record and an 8-2 finish in the Mid American Conference, en route to the MAC Regular Season Title and MAC Coach of the Year honors for Reeve. It was the first MAC Title in school history for Miami, which finished third in 2009 and second in 2008, while Reeve was Miamis first-ever MAC Field Hockey Coach of the Year. Reeve and the RedHawks advanced to the MAC Championship Game four times and the Tournament Semifinals three times during her career. She helped to guide the program to seven straight 10-win seasons for the first time in 25 years, and to five straight winning seasons in conference play for the first time since 1984-1986. In the season before she arrived, Miami had a 1-17 record, but Reeve quickly righted the ship with 17 victories in her first two seasons. Included in those 17 wins was a 10-12 season in 2005, marking the first time since 1996 that Miami had won 10 or more games. The 2005 season was memorable for another reason, as the RedHawks advanced to the final game of the MAC Tournament for the first time in program history, falling just one victory shy of reaching the NCAA Tournament. In her first season at Miami, Reeve led the 2004 RedHawks to a 7-14 overall mark and guided the team to the program's first MAC regular-season and tournament victories since the 2000 season. In fact, the seven victories in 2004 were two more than the combined win total from the three seasons prior to Reeve's arrival. During Reeves tenure, 29 athletes have earned All-MAC honors, including a school record six in 2010, five in 2009, and four each in 2005, 2007, and 2008. In 2004, Reeve helped mentor the MAC Co-Player of the Year in goalkeeper Kerri Orr, who became the first Miami player to win the award since its inception in 1992. She has coached 16 MAC All-Tournament honorees and 10 NFHCA All-West Region Performers. Off the field, Reeve has coached 14 Miami student-athletes who have gone on to earn Academic All-MAC honors, while nine were named to the 2008 NFHCA National Academic Squad. In 2007, her team an NCAA Public Recognition Award for a multi-year APR in the top 10% of all field hockey programs in the country. After retiring from an illustrious playing career that included a 12-year stint on the U.S. National Team, Reeve secured her first head coaching position in February 2004 when she was hired by Miami. Though 2004 marked her first season as a collegiate head coach, Reeve had a wealth of experience as an assistant coach, having previously worked with three highly-regarded field hockey programs in Dartmouth (1993-95), Penn State (1996-2000), and William and Mary (2000-02). Reeve spent 12 years playing on the U.S. team and during her career was one of the Nation's best. She competed in the World Cup in 1994, 1998 and 2002, which included a Bronze Medal in the 1994 Ireland World Cup. She played in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga., and represented the U.S. at an Olympic qualifying event in England in 2000. In 1999, Reeve achieved the pinnacle of her playing career when she was honored as the United States Field Hockey Association Female Athlete of the Year. During the 1999 and 2000 seasons, she was a co-captain on the U.S. Team. Reeve was the team's sole captain two years prior in 1997. Reeve also was a dynamic field hockey player as a student-athlete at Old Dominion from 1989-93. She earned All-America honors at ODU in 1991 and is the current NCAA record-holder for career assists with 138. While at ODU, Reeve was a member of four National Championship squads from 1989-92. Reeve graduated from ODU in 1993 with a degree in education. She holds a level III coaching accreditation from USA Field Hockey, the highest level available.
