Mitchell Switzer

Head Coach

Switzer begins his third season at Bryant University and his second as the Director of Cross Country/Track and Field and the head track and field coach. Switzer spent the 2014-15 season as the interim men's track and field head coach before being elevated on May 26, 2015. Switzer has taken the Bulldogs to another level in his first two years, completely rewriting the school record book. In 2015-16, the Bulldogs earned six medals at the NEC Championships. Adam Malone became the highest finishing male in program history, earning a pair of silver medals in the triple jump. The men's 4x800 outdoor relay team also enjoyed a historic moment as they became the first quartet in school history to run a sub-8:00 time on their way to a silver medal.  In his first year, Switzer helped the Bulldogs to unprecedented heights. Under his coaching, the Black and Gold set 17 school records, had seven players take home medals at the NEC Championships, had eight earn All-NEC honors and sent eight to the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The Bulldogs also saw their top-10 lists completely rewritten this past year. Individually, Kristen Hayes, MiaLynne Park, Annmarie Tuxbury and Milan Duka all thrived in Switzer's first year. Hayes emerged as one of the top 400m hurdlers in the region, shattering the Bryant school record while claiming her second-straight gold medal at the NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Switzer also guided Park to a bronze medal in the 400 during both the indoor and outdoor seasons and Tuxbury to a pair of silver medals in the 10k and steeplechase. Duka earned a bronze medal in the mile during the indoor season. A 2013 graduate of the University of Vermont, Switzer enjoyed a standout career for the Catamounts before joining the coaching staff for the 2013-14 year. A member of the 2014 America East Women's Coaching Staff of the Year, he developed training plans and developmental athlete lifting programs. Switzer helped the Catamounts record program-best finishes of second (women) and fifth (men) at the AE Championships and saw his athletes set 14 school records, 11 earn All-ECAC/All-IC4A and one qualify for the NCAA East Regional. A native of Phoenix, N.Y., Switzer was a NCAA Division I national qualifier in the 400 hurdles during 2012, setting the UVM school record in the process. He was also a member of the 4x400 school record relay team during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Switzer also qualified for the IC4As as a junior and a senior, earned All-New England honors and was a two-time All-America East selection in the 400 hurdles. He also competed in the European Track Circuit in 2013. Switzer is USATFCCCA Jumps Specialist certified and is USATF Level 1 certified.

Theresa Garlacy

Head Coach

Bio Theresa Garlacy completed her 30th season at the helm in 2025 and has engineered the rise of the Bryant University volleyball program into a consistent and potent threat. Garlacy has been a staple in the Bryant community, completing her 32nd season at the University. She served two seasons as an assistant coach prior to being named the head coach and also held several administrative duties within the department during the beginning of her career. Garlacy's teams have excelled both on and off court. Her program has received AVCA All-Academic honors and has also spent the last 27 years volunteering with Special Olympics Rhode Island.  Under the tutelage of Garlacy, the Bulldogs have earned their first Division I conference championship in 2018, and regular season titles in 2021 and 2025.  Garlacy enters the 2025 season boasting a career coaching record of 630-418 (.601), with a final Division II mark of 344-140 (.711). She left Division II ranked No. 24 in winning percentage and left as the 17th winningest coach in DII history. Garlacy ranked second all-time in the NE-10 in career wins following the team’s final game in the league in 2007. Garlacy is 286-278 at the Division I level. Garlacy ranks 10th all-time among active Division I head coaches for wins (630). The Bulldogs finished the 2025 season with a 16-12 overall record and a 7-3 record in the America East conference, their best conference record since joining the America East in 2022. The Bulldogs also won their first America East regular season title in program history. Bryant earned the number 2 overall seed in the America East conference tournament, falling to the 3 seeded UAlbany Great Danes in straight sets. The Bulldogs picked up several notable victories this season. The first came on September 6th, defeating Providence College on the road in five sets in the Ocean State Cup. It marked their first win at Alumni Hall since 2018. Another big win came on September 17th, beating the defending MAAC champion Fairfield in four sets at home. The win marked the start of a five-game winning streak for the Bulldogs. From that point on, the Bulldogs won 13 of their remaining 18 games to close out the season. Junior Madison Koeller shattered records in the win, tallying 58 assists, ranking her third all-time in single-game assists in Bryant's Division I history. The Bulldogs momentum carried over into their trip to Chestnut Hill, facing Boston College in the final match of the BC Invitational. The Bulldogs picked up their second win in program history against the Eagles, beating them in five sets and snapping a six-game losing streak dating back to 2013. It was Bryant's first-ever win in Chestnut Hill, spoiling the Eagles' perfect 11-0 start and handing them their first loss of the season. Bryant's success in their non-conference slate helped them in the America East. The Bulldogs swept the defending champion New Hampshire Wildcats in their first road conference match, earning their first road win in Durham since 2011. The Bulldogs performed well at the Chace Athletic Center this season, finishing with a 7-4 home record. They finished 4-1 at home in conference play, earning victories over UAlbany, Binghamton, New Hampshire, and NJIT. The final win over NJIT clinched a share of the America East regular season title for Bryant, with the Bulldogs sweeping the Highlanders on Senior Night. The Bulldogs were led by America East Player of the Year, senior Arianna Ugolini. It marked the first time Bryant has received a Player of the Year award in the Division I era. Ugolini also earned first team All-Conference honors for the third consecutive season. She led the America East in kills (419), service aces (43), and points (476.5). Her 419 kills now ranks first all-time for a single season in Bryant's Division I history. She eclipsed 1,000 career kills and points this season, now ranking fifth all-time in career kills in Bryant's Division I history. Junior Brookelyn Talmadge had an impressive campaign in 2025, earning second team All-Conference honors. Talmadge led the America East in hitting percentage (.406), tallying a career best 178 kills. She also led the team with 72.0 total blocks this season. Ruth Ochelli and Kaitlin Curran both earned All-Rookie team honors in their first season with the Bulldogs. Ochelli finished the season with 204 kills, second best on the team. She averaged 2.37 kills/set. Curran finished with 202 kills, third on the team. She averaged 2.77 kills/set. She ranked third in the conference in service aces (34). Madison Koeller ran the tempo for the Bulldogs offense this season. She set a new career best in assists, finishing with 815 this season. She surpassed 1,000 career assists as a Bulldog, becoming the seventh player in Bryant's Division I history to eclipse 1,000 assists. She ranked second in the conference in assists (815) and assists/set (8.67).  The Black and Gold would go 18-10 in 2024 and put together their best non-conference record in Division I program history; going 14-4.  In that stretch, they earned impressive victories over Florida Atlantic, Army, and eventual MAAC Champions, Fairfield. The 2024 season would also see head coach Theresa Garlacy win the 600th game of her illustrious career with the Black and Gold after defeating the University of Rhode Island on September 6th. In league play, the Bulldogs would have outstanding five set victories over New Hampshire and UMBC. Bryant would especially show resilience against UNH as they would overcome an 0-2 deficit to earn a reverse sweep victory. The Bulldogs would go 4-6 in conference play; finishing with the fifth seed in the America East. Junior Arianna Ugolini would earn first team All-Conference honor while senior Aubrey LaPour would be named to the second team. Bryant would excel in the service game in 2024 finishing 21st in the nation in team aces per set; averaging 1.88. They would also finish 33rd overall for total aces with 199 (10th in NCAA on 11/7/24). The Bulldogs would finish the regular season with four players in the Top 10 for service aces in the America East. Arianna Ugolini would lead the team with 41 aces. She would be followed by Carolina Camacho (38), Carrina Barron (33) and Fabi Castro (30). On September 17th, against Merrimack, the Bulldogs would set a new Division I match record for service aces with 19. Arianna Ugolini would make individual history in that match as she would record 10 aces, marking a new Division I match record and the most for a Bryant player ever in a four set match. Bryant would finish the year with a KPI rating of 164 and an RPI rating of 178. Bryant would follow up their first year in the America East with another promising season in 2023. The Bulldogs would once again go 19-12 overall and finish 6-4 in conference. The Black and Gold would earn the No. 4 seed but would fall in the semifinals to UMBC. The Bulldogs would see multiple milestones in 2023. Carolina Camacho would become only the 6th player in Bryant's Division I history to surpass 1000 career assists. Josie Deluga would reach 600 career digs and Aubrey LaPour would surpass 600 career kills. Three Bulldogs would earn all-conference honors. Aubrey Lapour would be named to the America East first team while Brookelyn Talmadge made all-rookie. Garlacy's coaching staff would also be named Co-Coaching Staff of the Year by the America East. The Bulldogs had a strong debut in their first year of America East play in 2022, going 19-12 overall and 6-4 in league play. Bryant qualified for the America East Tournament, falling in the semifinals. Mia Cergol capped off a historic career with America East Setter of the Year honors, while Alyssa Wright and Riley James also picked up all-conference honors. Abigail Rae and Emma McGovern were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.  Bryant hosted the NEC Championships for the first time ever in 2021, going 12-2 in conference to clinch the regular season title. The Bulldogs finished the year with a 21-11 record, their third 20-win season in four years. Three Bulldogs earned All-NEC honors: Riley James was named to the first team while Mia Cergol and Caroline Kennedy were named to the second team. Kennedy reached a personal milestone, becoming the fourth Bulldog in the team's Division I era with 1000 career kills. Bryant finished a COVID-impacted 2020-21 season with a 6-5 record overall and a 6-4 mark in conference play. The Black and Gold finished the year atop the NEC in kills and blocks per set. The Bulldogs had numerous players on the conference's individual leaderboards as well, including Alysa Wright, who led the NEC with 1.24 blocks per set. Wright was named All-NEC second team while Emma McGovern was named to the conference's first team. The 2019 Bryant squad welcomed one of the program's most-heralded signing classes, including the first first-team Under Armour All-American to sign with an NEC program (Riley James.) The Bulldogs' freshman and sophomore classes combined for over 90% of the team's kills and libero Erika Ward broke the program's Division I career digs record as a junior. Bryant won a Division I program-record 22 matches in 2018, with the 22nd victory coming in the form of the Bulldogs' first Northeast Conference Championship in November. The Black & Gold swept Sacred Heart in Brooklyn for their first trip to the NCAA tournament at the D1 level. The Bulldogs led the nation in total kills and total assists entering the NCAA tournament in a year in which Bryant placed a program-best four players on All-NEC teams. Sophomore Erika Ward became the first player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs as a sophomore, while senior Kristin Kingi broke Bryant's Division I career record for digs with 1,365. Both players surpassed the marks in the NEC tournament. In 2017, Bryant enjoyed what was at the time its best season at the Division I level, as the Black and Gold earned its first NEC regular season championship. Bryant won 21 matches and posted an 11-3 mark in the NEC. Julia Flynn and Kirstyn Sperry both earned first-team all-NEC distinction with Sperry garnering NEC Setter of the Year honors. The 2017 Bulldogs won five matches after trailing 2-0, including a victory over ACC member Syracuse and a pair of wins over Sacred Heart. Bryant continued its dominance at the Chace Athletic Center, recording a 12-1 mark in Smithfield and moving the Bulldogs’ record on their home floor to 36-4 (.900) over the last three seasons. The Bulldogs also tallied a pair of wins over eventual NCAA tournament teams (LIU Brooklyn, Stony Brook). The 2015 NEC Coach of the Year, Garlacy has seen 13 all-conference selections over the last five seasons, including six first-team nods and six major award recipients. Her teams have also excelled in the classroom and include CoSIDA Academic All-District selections in each of the last three campaigns, with Bryant senior Ally Lunsford earning the program’s first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor in 2017. After missing the NEC Tournament by way of a tiebreaker back in 2014, the Bulldogs have rocketed into the regular-season and tournament title conversation over the last three years behind dominant talents such as two-time NEC Setter of the Year and 2016 ECAC All-Star Vika Katzen and a pair of NEC Rookie of the Year winners. The success of the 2017 season continues an upward trajectory from 2015 and 2016, a pair of campaigns in which Bryant set – and then tied – new single-season marks for wins (19) and conference victories (10). The 2016 edition also set DI team records in kills per set (13.44), attack percentage (.197), assists (1537), assists per set (12.60), serve percentage (.936) and points per set (16.45). In 2016, the Bulldogs finished in the nation’s top-50 in total attacks (40th, 1st in NEC), total team digs (43rd, 2nd) and total team assists (47th, 1st), also notching the highest kill total in the league with 1,640 (53rd nationally). The 2015 campaign marked the first undefeated home slate in Bryant volleyball history, as the Bulldogs went a perfect 14-0 inside the Chace Athletic Center. Since joining the Division I ranks in 2008, the Bulldogs have enjoyed marquee victories in every season, including the program’s first-ever win over a BCS opponent with a 3-2 topping of Boston College in 2010. Other signature wins over the years have included the likes of Providence College, Denver, George Mason, LIU Brooklyn, Princeton, Navy, Air Force, Colgate, North Carolina A&T, South Carolina State and Syracuse, among others. Bryant earned the most victories of any DI program in Rhode Island in 2010 (18) and saw Maria Scocca set a pair of NEC single-game marks in 2009 (29 kills vs. Providence; 15 blocks vs. Brown). Historically one of the most successful programs in the Northeast, the Garlacy-led Bulldogs appeared in 10 NCAA Division II tournaments during the 12 seasons prior to Bryant’s move to Division I. That run included NCAA berths in each of the final nine seasons of DII play, an ECAC Championship, five Northeast-10 Conference regular-season titles and five NE-10 Tournament crowns. In 2007, Bryant's final season in Division II, the Bulldogs went out with a bang, winning not just the Northeast-10 Conference regular-season title with a perfect 14-0 conference record (32-13 overall), but also turning their fifth NE-10 tournament title into a trip all the way to the NCAA Sweet 16. Garlacy has accrued a myriad of accomplishments and milestones during her storied career, including recording the program's 700th victory during the 2007 season and its 800th during the 2014 campaign. Garlacy notched her 100th career victory in 1999, just four years into her head coaching career. Four years later, she earned win No. 200, following that up with victory No. 300 on September 15, 2006 and No. 400 on Oct. 23, 2011.
