Jason Hewitt

Head Coach

Hewitt enters his 7th season as Bryn Mawr College's head track and field coach. Since arriving at Bryn Mawr, Hewitt has seen a resurgence of talented distance runners in the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams.  Hewitt arrives at Bryn Mawr following a four-year tenure at fellow Seven Sister institution, Mount Holyoke. While with the Lyons, Jason served as head coach of the indoor track and field team before adding the role of assistant coach for outdoor track in 2005 and assistant cross country coach in 2007. Responsible for the development of sprints, jumps and hurdle events, Hewitt coached two Division III New England Champions in the long and high jumps and witnessed numerous school records. As the assistant cross country coach, he helped the Lyons hoist the Seven Sisters Cross Country Championships trophy in 2007, the schools first title in eight years. Hewitt began his coaching career with Telstar High School in Bethel, Maine, in 2001. At Telstar, he began as an assistant track coach with his main focus being 400m distances and up. During his two-year run, he coached two state champions; one in the 400m and another in the 800m and 1600m events. From Telstar, Hewitt served as assistant coach with Springfield College. With the Pride, Hewitt worked primarily with sprint and distance hurdles and often assisted the sprint and distance coaches. In 2004, Hewitt was named the head cross country coach at Framingham State College. Responsible for the growth and development of a small team, Hewitt took a program comprised of one returner and turned it two scoring teams (men and women). Hewitt earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in mathematics and classical study from Tufts University and a Master of Science in physical education from Springfield. He holds a USATF Level II certifications in both Endurance and Jumps in addition to the more general USATF Level I coaching certification. Hewitt also holds a NVPCA pole vault certification; NTCA throws safety certification and an ASEP coach and sports first aid certification. Hewitt is a USATF and USTFCCCA member as well.
