Kylee Boettcher

Head Coach

Kylee Boettcher officially returned to her alma mater and began as head women's basketball coach in 2024-25. In her first season, Boettcher guided the Beavers to their highest single-season win total in eight years and also coached one Second Team All-Conference performer. Following the year, two players were selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team with seven total selections to the A-R-C All-Academic Team. Boettcher is a 2002 graduate of BVU, and spent the five seasons prior to arriving back to campus, as head girls basketball coach at Panorama High School in Panora, Iowa. During that span, she compiled an astounding overall record of 111-16, including a stellar 25-2 mark and the program’s first-ever state tournament championship game appearance in 2023-24. Her teams also captured a pair of conference championships, three runner-up conference finishes, five regional finals appearances and made three straight trips to the state tournament (2022, 2023, 2024). Among Boettcher’s individual coaching accolades include being named a two-time Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) All-District Coach of the Year (2022, 2023), two-time West Central Activities Conference (WCAC) Coach of the Year (2020, 2022) and two-time Iowa Basketball Coaches Association All-Regional Basketball Coach of the Year (2022, 2024). She was also a coach during the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Pizza Ranch All-Star Game in 2023. Prior to taking over the reins as head coach for the Panthers, Boettcher served 10 seasons for the district as a junior high coach and a volunteer high school assistant basketball coach. She also spent time as head varsity softball coach for the Panthers from 2007-2013 and again from 2021-2023. The Panora, Iowa, native, returned to her alma mater after coaching stints at Washington High School in Cherokee (2003-05) and Waukee Middle School (2006). Boettcher was a four-year member of the BVU women’s basketball and softball teams from 1998-2002. While playing on the hardwood for head coach Janet Berry, she was named a team co-captain and was the recipient of the prestigious John Naughton Coaches Award as a senior. She earned her bachelor's degree in English from BVU in 2002 and received a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Iowa in 2023. By returning to Storm Lake, Boettcher and her husband, Trevor (2000 BVU men basketball alum), have moved their family back to the place it all began back in July of 2002. They have three children: Tyme, Trey and Tyce. Tyme is currently a sophomore on the BVU women's basketball team.

Kyle Bernhoft joined the Buena Vista women’s basketball program as assistant coach in 2022-23. In his three seasons, Bernhoft has helped coach one Second Team All-Conference performer, a pair of Honorable Mention All-Conference selections, 18 Academic All-Conference selections and 10 Academic All-District individuals.   Prior to being hired at BVU, Bernhoft spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where his primary responsibility was serving as recruiting coordinator.   Before Northland, Bernhoft was the Head Girls Basketball Coach and Business Teacher at Mellen (WI) High School. The Granite Diggers won 34 games in his three seasons as coach and appeared in the 2014 WIAA Regional Championship.  Bernhoft’s time at Mellen coincided with the final three seasons of conference foe South Shore’s Megan Gustafson, who would go on to star at the University of Iowa.   Prior to Mellen, Bernhoft served as Assistant Girls Basketball Coach and Business Teacher at Sheboygan Falls (WI) High School, coaching many of the players who would win the 2012-13 Eastern Wisconsin Conference Championship.   Bernhoft graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Education.  While at Stout, he worked with WIAC Hall of Fame coach Mark Thomas and future University of Dubuque Head Coach Mark Noll as a student-assistant.  The Lady Blue Devils won three consecutive WIAC regular season and tournament championships during this time and produced two NCAA Division III All-Americans.  During his senior year at Stout, Bernhoft served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Butternut-Glidden High School.   Kyle and his wife Jenna have two daughters, Ava (15) and Allison (13).  He also owns and operates Northland Elite Basketball Club, which operates tournaments and competes with traveling teams across the Midwest.
