Paige Storm
Head Coach
Paige Storm is the first-ever coach to lead the Buena Vista's women's wrestling program and begins her fourth season in 2025-26. During the team's first competition season in 2023-24, Storm helped guide three individual regional placewinners. A year later, the Beavers won their first-ever dual and was 4-2 overall and landed three all-conference performers during the inaugural A-R-C Tournament. Overall, Storm has coached three regional placewinners, three all-conference performers, three Scholar All-American selections and one academic all-conference honoree. Storm is a Spencer, Iowa, native and began wrestling in elementary school. Her father, Dave, has coached wrestling for the Tigers for over three decades. She went on to become a four-year boys’ wrestling letterwinner for Spencer High School from 2005-08. Prior to high school, Storm was a Folkstyle national champion in 2003 within the United States Girls Wrestling Association (USGWA) and a two-time Freestyle national champion (2003 & 2004). In 2006, she became the state of Iowa’s first two-time Junior women’s freestyle All-American and was named the Iowa Wrestling Federation’s Female Wrestler of the Year. In 2021-22, Storm served as Girls Wrestling Coach at Harrisburg High School in South Dakota, and helped coach seven state qualifiers, four state place winners, including one state champion. As a team, it went on to earn a fourth-place finish. During the 2020-21 season, Storm served as a volunteer Girls Wrestling Coach at Lennox High School and helped coach a pair of state placewinners, including one state runner-up. BVU alum, Blake Crosby, was coach of that Lennox HS team. Storm wrestled collegiately for a private club and then attended Buena Vista and graduated in December of 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology. Since 2016, she has been employed by the South Dakota State Penitentiary where she most recently served as a case manager. Storm’s husband, Carlos Barreda, is a BVU wrestling alum.

Abby McIntyre
Assistant Coach
Abby McIntyre has joined the Buena Vista women's wrestling team as an assistant coach and begins her first season with the Beavers in 2025-26. McIntyre's record as a collegiate wrestler is well-known. As a competitor for Grand View University, she was a national finalist, a three-time NAIA All-American, Heart of America (HOA) Conference Outstanding Wrestler, three-time HOA Conference Champion, and HOA Freshman of the Year. In 2024, she was named Grand View's Female Athlete of the Year. Before college, she inspired generations of Iowa girls prior to the sanctioning of girls wrestling in the state. A native of Glenwood, IA, she wrestled both boys and girls as part of the Glenwood High School wrestling team, finishing her high school career as a two-time IWCOA state champion, a USA state freestyle champion, and a Fargo All-American. In both 2020 and 2021, McIntyre was a finalist for the Dan Gable Wrestler of the Year Award and was named the Hy-Vee Wrestler of the Year in 2020. McIntyre's coaching career actually began while still competing for Grand View. She has been a Twin River National Duals coach on three separate occasions (2022, 2023, 2024) and was the coach of the national championship team in 2024. She has coached numerous athletes at the AAU State tournament the past three years and has conducted her own series of wrestling camps across the state. "I am incredibly excited to have Abby join our program!" says BVU head women's wrestling coach Paige Storm. "Abby possesses a wrestling knowledge that is simply invaluable. Her recent experiences as a successful collegiate competitor will bring a new perspective to the room." "While competing, Abby found time to give back to the sport by putting on camps and clinics throughout the state of Iowa in addition to coaching Iowa AAU girls wrestling teams," adds Storm. "Not only does she have connections, but she is outgoing and eager to learn." Aside from her recent coaching duties, McIntyre has also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the Calvin Community in Beaverdale, Iowa since 2022. She's also spent time in the same position at Glen Haven Village in Glenwood (2021-23). McIntyre is expected to earn her bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Grand View in May 2025 along with minors in Psychology and Family Studies. Storm is especially excited about this hire because of how it extends the coaching lineage of legendary BVU Hall of Fame men's wrestling coach Al Baxter. McIntyre's two high school coaches (Brad Asche & Adam Buthe) both wrestled for Baxter as did Storm's high school coach, David Schaefer. Current volunteer assistant coach, Carlos Barreda, wrestled for Sevond Cole, who was an All-American for Baxter, and the other volunteer assistant, Dr. Jason Shepherd, was a former wrestler of Baxter's as well.
