Assistant Coach

Downey joins the Bengals staff after graduating from Williams College in the spring of 2015 with a degree in English.  At Williams, he was a four-year member of the conference championship team, and swam under Stone for the past three seasons.  In addition to winning New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) team championships all four years with Williams, Downey also earned All-Conference honors in the 1,000 and 1,650 yard freestyle events, achieving an NCAA "B" cut time standard in the latter.  He was also selected to the NESCAC All-Academic team the past three years, and following the 2014-2015 season, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named him an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American.   A native of Washington, D.C., Downey grew up swimming for nationally recognized club teams including Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club (RMSC) and Nation's Capital Swim Club (NCAP) where he was a Junior Nationals qualifier in the breaststroke and distance freestyle events.
