Brice Vignery

Head Coach

Vignery is entering his sixth season as an assistant coach at Butler and his second as a Co-Offensive Coordinator. In his eight years with Butler as a player and coach, the Grizzlies have compiled a 71-10 record, winning six conference titles as well as a national championship in 2007. As co-offensive coordinator, Vignery helped the Grizzlies to a 9-2 ranking, a 25th conference championship and a top-five finish in the NJCAA rankings. The offense had nine All-KJCCC selections, including five first-team players (tight end Matt Jones, lineman Ben Powers, Garrison Wright, Blaise Fountain and fullback Trevor Crain). Second-team All-Conference running back Kobe McCrary led the nation with 22 rushing touchdowns and finished with 1,190 yards.  In 2014, Vignery returned to coach the running backs after spending the 2013 season as the team's inside wide receivers coach. Butler averaged 166 yards per game on the ground, led by second-team All-Jayhawk Conference selection Chris Carson (994 yards, nine rushing TDs and 7.2 yards per carry), who had five games with 100 yards or more rushing. Backup running back Ja'Mon Cotton was also honorable mention All-Jayhawk Conference. Vignery's stable of running backs were an impressive unit in 2012 as the Grizzlies led the conference in rushing with 223 yards per game. Dreamius Smith, who will play this season in the Big 12 with West Virginia, had four games with more than 100 yards rushing and scored 17 touchdowns on the season. He was a first-team All-Jayhawk Conference selection. Derrick Thomas also had four 100-yard rushing games with nine touchdowns and was honorable mention All-Jayhawk Conference. Vignery spent the 2011 season at Kansas Wesleyan. He coached two All-KCAC selections, including first-teamer Carl Caldwell, a sophomore receiver who led the Coyotes with 35 receptions for 486 yards and four touchdowns.  Prior to that, Vignery spent as a season as assistant wide receivers coach at Butler, helping his alma mater win Jayhawk Conference and Region VI championships. He helped tutor a talented group of receivers that included Marcus Kennard (Texas Tech), Brett Soft (Central Arkansas) and Darrell Freeman (Arkansas Tech). Vignery, a native of Concordia, Kansas, played receiver at Butler in 2006 and 2007, during which time the Grizzlies went 23-1 with two conference championships and two Region VI championships, as well as the 2007 national championship. He then finished his playing career at Kansas State as a part of the 2008 and 2009 Wildcat squads. He graduated from K-State in December 2010 with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Social Science. Vignery is the son of Kenneth and Cindy Vignery. He has two brothers, Brent and Blake, and a twin sister, Blair, a former Butler track and field standout. Vignery is married to the former Hannah Kueny and resides in Towanda.
