Williams joined the Mustang womens soccer staff as a volunteer assistant. He also was an assistant for the Cal Poly mens soccer staff from 2013 to 2015, helping the Mustangs produce five winning seasons over a six-year stretch. Williams came to San Luis Obispo after spending two seasons coaching at Westmont, where he was responsible for mentoring the goalkeepers, overseeing back line development, focusing on strength and conditioning regimen, and helping with the recruiting process. During his playing career with the Warriors (which included a run to the quarterfinals of the 2008 NAIA National Championship Tournament), Williams was a four-year starter at left back and midfielder. His experience at those positions led to an immediate impact with the Mustangs in 2015. In defense, Robin Mertens earned all-conference first-team honors after Cal Poly limited four Top 15 opponents (Virginia, Stanford, Cal and BYU) to a combined four goals. Emily Hansen, meanwhile, won the Big West Offensive Player of the Week award from her midfield spot on Sept. 14, and the Mustangs ranked No. 1 in the conference in corners won, with 45 in league play. A native of Albuquerque, Williams graduated with his baccalaureate degree in kinesiology from Westmont in 2011.
