California State University, East Bay Men's Soccer

Mike Haswell was named Head Men's Soccer Coach at Cal State East Bay in July 2023.  The 2024 season for the Pioneers coached by Haswell is one for the history books. The Pioneers reached the CCAA Men's Soccer Tournament for the first time as a conference member. Not only did East Bay qualify for the postseason, the Pioneers won their first CCAA Tournament match, a 1-0 win over Chico State to advance to the semifinals hosted on the CSUEB campus.  In his first season with the Pioneers in 2023, Haswell led the team to a 7-7-4 record, which was the best for the men's soccer program since joining the CCAA. With a rich history of coaching championship teams, Michael Haswell arrived to the Hayward campus in 2023 to become head coach of the men's soccer program. He most previously served as assistant men's soccer coach at California State University, Los Angeles for six seasons.   In the six seasons that were played while Haswell served on the Golden Eagles' staff, the program saw tremendous success. Cal State LA won the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship in 2021 and reached the national championship match in 2019. Cal State LA amassed 91 wins in the six seasons with Haswell on staff, including four CCAA Tournament Championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances.   Also at Cal State LA, Haswell was a Kinesiology instructor.   Outside his collegiate coaching career, Haswell served in a coaching role at Mendez High School in Los Angeles from 2010-2019 where he earned a CIF Division II Coach of the Year honor in 2017 for leading his team to a CIF Los Angeles City Section Championship that season.   His soccer playing career includes three city championships at Fayetteville-Manlius High School near Syracuse, New York and a youth national championship with Syracuse Blitz. At the semi-professional soccer level, Haswell competed as a member of the Los Angeles Crew. Haswell carries a USSF B License and a UEFA B License (German DFB).    Haswell earned a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State, where he also played NCAA Division I lacrosse. He earned a master's degree at Long Beach State in Kinesiology.

Michael Hannon joined the Cal State East Bay men's soccer coaching staff in August 2023 after bringing over a decade of coaching experience to Hayward.  Hannon was most recently the Head Coach of Project 51O, the reserve team of USL Championship side Oakland Roots. During his tenure, Hannon won the USL 2 Southwest Conference and was nominated for Coach of the Year. Hannon also lead 51O to a UPSL Norcal League title. He saw his players gain an academy contract with the first team, and this year seeing, fellow CCAA player Danny Gomez gain a professional contract with the Roots. Also, during the 2022 season, Mikey stepped in to help as interim second assistant coach with the Oakland Roots under Noah Delgado, who took over as head coach. Prior to the Roots, Hannon spent the 2019 season at St Mary's College of California as a Volunteer Assistant under the guidance of Gaels' head coach Adam Cooper. That season, the team went on to sweep conference matches and gain back-to-back WCC titles. Hannon also spent the 2017 Season and Lycoming College in Pennsylvania, where he served as an assistant women's soccer coach. Hannon started his career working as an assistant coach with the Swansea City Football Club Academy in his hometown of Swansea, and the Arsenal Soccer School. Currently, Hannon serves as Technical/ECNL Director at 1974 Newark and is also the Domestic Scout at the Oakland Roots. A native of Swansea, Wales, Hannon spent time at the University of Glamorgan studying Football Coaching and Performance. He currently holds a USSF A License through US Soccer.

Kevin Esquivel joined the Cal State East Bay men's soccer coaching staff in 2023.  Prior to his arrival in Hayward, Esquivel was an assistant men's soccer coach at Holy Names University.  Esquivel's playing career included San Francisco State and Contra Costa College.  He earned a bachelor's degree at San Francisco State in Business Marketing and a master's degree from Holy Names University. 

Dannylo Ayllon joined the Cal State East Bay men's soccer coaching staff prior to the 2024 season. He also the Director of Coaching and Player Development for 1974 Newark FC.    He brings coaching experience having previously served at San Francisco State, Oakland Roots Project 51O and East Bay United. Ayllon holds a USSF 'B' License.
