Chris Baptista
Assistant Coach
Baptista enters his 11th season (2015-16) at Fresno State with a proven record for developing dominant sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers. During his time at Fresno State, Baptista has guided his student-athletes to 64 NCAA postseason bids and had four named All-Americans, four named an All-American honorable mention while 21 earned conference championships. Baptista has also led 31 athletes to all-time top ten performances, including four student athletes who grasped the all-time school record in the 200-meter (W), 400-meter hurdles (M/F), long jump (W) and 4x400-meter relay (W), respectively. In all, Baptista has produced seven NCAA Division I All-Americans, 79 NCAA Regional qualifiers and 52 individual conference champions in his 18-year career. In addition, 55 of his athletes have gone on to win all-academic awards. He currently holds a certification as a USATF Level III and IAAF Elite Jumps Coach. : In 2015, Baptista saw his student-athletes break Fresno State all-time school records in the women's 200m (23.45) and women's 4x400m relay (3:35.34). Sophomore Njeri Omawahleh topped a record that has stood since 1997 in the 200m and the 4x400m relay team of Omawahleh, Dezirae Johnson, Kyra Johsnon and Nailah Harris-Murillo busted a mark that stood at Fresno State since 1998. Additionally, new all-time Top 10 marks in the women's 400mH (No. 2, 58.22), women's 800m (No. 3, 2:08.94) and men's 110mH (14.28) were also set during the season under Baptista's direction. Baptista had individuals in six different events compete at the NCAA West Prelims in Austin, Texas, two weeks after the 4x400m relay team claimed the 2015 Mountain West Championship and Kyra Johnson claimed the 400mH title at the conference championships. By setting a new school mark in the 4x400m in the preliminary round, the women's relay team advanced to be one of 24 teams to compete for a National Championship in Eugene, Ore. Kyra Johnson also advanced out the Prelims in Texas for an appearance at Track Town USA. : Five Bulldogs qualified for NCAA West Prelims under coach Baptista, including the first-ever qualification for a Fresno State women's 4x400m relay team, as well as a return trip for standout Je'Nia Sears in the long jump. Sears advanced to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships and finished ninth out of 24 competitors in the finals to earn Second-Team All-America honors. Sears shined under coach Baptista for the second consecutive year as she set an all-time school record in the outdoor long jump with a leap of 20'5" in addition to her postseason accomplishments. The Johnson sisters were able to put their mark on their 2013-2014 seasons. Both of them were added to the All-Time Records List in the 400m hurdles. They weren't the only Bulldogs to be added the list this season, Coach Baptista had 3 other student-athletes, for a total of five earn spots on the `Dogs all time list. : 2013 featured the emergence of NCAA All-American Je'Nia Sears who set all-time school records in the long jump in both indoor (20-10.75) and outdoor (20-5.75) under the tutelage of coach Baptista. Sears earned the Indoor Mountain West Championship and also qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Round in both circuits. Altogether, Baptista led nine individuals to the NCAA Outdoor Preliminary Round and guided the 4x100m relay team (40.30) and Breeauna Thompson (400m - 53.59) to a Mountain West Championship Baptista sent four individuals to the NCAA postseason. Latrisha Jordan returned for the fourth-straight year to the NCAA Regionals after earning her third WAC title in four years, she finished nearly two full seconds ahead of the pack in the 400m hurdles at the conference championships. Breeauna Thompson qualified for the 400m dash for the second consecutive year. Thompson also qualified for the 200m, making her the only Bulldog to qualify for two NCAA postseason events in the spring. Latrisha Jordan and Breeauna Thompson represented Fresno State at the NCAA Regionals. Jordan made her third-straight appearance in the 400m hurdles while Breeauna Thompson qualified for her inaugural 400m bid. Baptista sent five individuals to the NCAA Regionals, including standout Latrisha Jordan in her sophomore campaign. Jordan won the WAC Outdoor title in the 400m hurdles for the second year in a row. Val-Pierre Dai'Re, Cameron Parker and Kendrick Young all earned spots in the NCAA Qualifier. Dai'Re set a school record of 50.37 seconds in the 400m hurdles under Baptista's guidance. Breeauna Thompson also earned her first NCAA Qualifying bid. Baptista guided Latrisha Jordan to NCAA All-American honors as a freshman. Jordan shattered the Fresno State record for the 400m hurdles multiple times throughout the season, finishing the regular season with the WAC title in the event and earning WAC Freshman of the Year honors. At the NCAA Championships, Jordan reset the Fresno State record of 58.14 seconds to advance to the final and take eighth-place. Jordan also anchored the WAC title-winning 4x400 relay team. Baptista coached the four-some of Vanessa Sautebin, Tiera Hilliard, Janev Morris and Jordan, who combined for a time of 3:39.85 to win the conference crown, a first for the Bulldogs since 1994. The team went on to take sixth at the NCAA Qualifier. The men also had success in 2009, Michael Barragan, Kendrick Young, Val- Pierre Dai'Re and Darryl Miller won the 4x400 relay at the WAC Championships and earned a NCAA qualifying bid where they took seventh. Dai'Re and Young also earned a spot in NCAA qualifiers in the hurdles. Dai'Re earned bids in both the 110m and 400m hurdles for a second year in a row. Young specialized in the 400 hurdles, taking second at the WAC Championships and placing seventh at the NCAA Qualifier. In his third season, Baptista coached Gary Lee to No. 1 US Junior long jumper ranking in 2008 (7.78m), earning NCAA All-American honors as a freshman. Baptista also guided both Dai'Re and Young to strong showings at the NCAA Regional. Dai'Re finished sixth at the Regional in the 400m hurdles and just one place from a bid to the NCAA Championship. On the women's side, Tiera Hilliard, WAC Freshman of the Year, and the women's 4x400 relay team qualified for the postseason. Baptista led six Bulldogs to qualify for NCAA's, including DeAnte Brown in triple jump, Ryan Moore in 400m hurdles and the 4 x 100 relay team. In his first season at Fresno State, Baptista's athletes picked up three conference titles and six qualifications the NCAA Regional Championships. Fresno State record holder and NCAA National qualifier Ryan Moore and then-freshman Dai'Re both qualified for the USA Track and Field Championships in 2006.Moore set a then-school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.51. Dai'Re finished with Junior All-American honors in the 110 hurdles. The men's 4x400 relay team featuring Moore along with Kenny Moon, Juan Valdez and Darryl Miller also qualified for the Regional, breaking a stadium record at the WAC Championships. On the women's side, Regina Ollison qualified for the Regional with a leap of 41'-2" in the triple jump. In addition to his coaching duties, Baptista's serves as the recruiting coordinator for Fresno State. He also serves as the meet director for all home competitions and as a liaison to athletic academic services and athletic compliance office. Baptista's other administrative duties include monitoring student athlete academic progress and working closely with the track club boosters group in planning events. In 2007, Coach Baptista directed the USA Track and Field Level I Coaching Education School at Fresno State. Baptista came to Fresno State after three seasons as an assistant coach at Tulsa. During his tenure with the Golden Hurricane, Baptista served as the program's recruiting coordinator and coached the men's and women's sprints and hurdles in addition to jumps and multi-events. He also served as the Assistant Director of the WAC Outdoor Championships in 2005. Baptista made an immediate impact at Tulsa, coaching the school's first female sprint NCAA All-American Shana Robinson (200m), five individual WAC champions, and 18 NCAA Regional qualifiers. He also led 13th nationally ranked women's indoor 4x400 meter relay team in 2003, and the 20th-ranked NCAA javelin thrower in 2005. Baptista served two years as the head men's and women's track coach at Shasta College. During his stint at Shasta, the women's team won back-to-back Golden Valley Conference titles and finished the 2002 season as the COA's Women's Scholar Team of the Year for California Community Colleges. Baptista coached 11 athletes to 11 school records and two California Community College Championship titles in the heptathlon. Baptista spent a brief time at the University of South Alabama and three years as an assistant coach at Troy State, where he coached athletes to 10 school records and the school's first female NCAA Championship qualifier in the high jump. A native of Caruthers, Calif., Baptista earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in health education from UAB in 1997 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in athletic administration through Grace College. He married Valerie Cain (Oklahoma '02) in the fall of 2009. The couple resides in Fresno, Calif. with their sons Cooper and Camden, and attend Northside Christian Church.

Scott Winsor
Assistant Coach
Winsor spent 20 seasons as an assistant coach at Notre Dame focusing on jumps. Winsor was hired on July 10, 2008. In seven seasons under Winsor's direction the 'Dogs have qualified 85 student-athletes to compete in postseason NCAA competition, produced 27 individual conference champions as well as six relay team championships. 2015: Eight Fresno State student-athletes traveled to the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas under the direction of Winsor to compete in nine events at the conclusion of its regular season. The Mountain West champion women's 4x400-meter relay team advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., by setting a new school record at Mike A. Meyers Stadium. Additionally, Mountain West 400-meter hurdles champion Kyra Johnson claimed one of 12 spots out of the West Preliminary Round in the 400-meter hurdles to advance to the NCAA Finals. Following the season's competition schedule, the Bulldogs men's and women's teams earned All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for its work in the classroom. The men's team achieved its highest GPA in the last five years, sporting a 3.06 GPA during the 2014-15 school year. The Fresno State women earned its sixth consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic award, tabbing a 3.05 cumulative GPA last season. In addition to national academic honors, 26 track and field student athletes were named to the 2015 Academic All-MW team, while 13 of those individuals maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better to be named to the MW Scholar Athlete team. 2014: Nine Bulldogs qualified for NCAA West Prelims under Head Coach Winsor this season. Je'Nia Sears and Meagan Mckee went on to compete in the 2014 NCAA Championships. Sears continued to shine this season under coach Baptista. For the second year in a row she set an all-time school record in the outdoor long jump with a leap of 20'5". Sears finished ninth out of 24 competitors at the NCAA Championships in women's long jump and earned Second-Team All-America honors. Meagan McKee closed her career with an 18th place finish at the NCAA Championships in the women's hammer throw. 10 student-athletes were able to make the Bulldogs All-Time List this season. Kyra Johnson and Dezirae Johnson were able to put their mark on the track. Both of them were added to the All-Time Records List in the 400m hurdles. They weren't the only Bulldogs to be added the list this season, Coach Baptista had 3 other student-athletes, for a total of five earn spots on the `Dogs All-Time list. Kevin Poythress in the 3000m steeplechase ran in a time of 9:00.06 and recorded the ninth-best time in Fresno State history. This season Dash threw a life time best in the hammer throw to earn him the #8 spot on the Bulldogs All-Time List. Sandri had similar success under the coach Misipeka. He threw a life-time best this season in the discus which put him #4 All-Time in the Bulldogs record books. During the indoor season Carina Mendoza took ninth place in the 3000m at the Mountain West Championships. Mendoza also broke the indoor school record by more than seven seconds when she posted a time of 9:40.42 at the UW Invitational in the 3000m. The Fresno State distance medley team of Mendoza, Ja'Nia Sears, Melanie Baran, and AnneMarie Schwanz finished fourth with a time of 12:17.98 at the Mountain West Championships. In the classroom the Bulldogs continued to make improvements under Coach Winsor. This season 11 Bulldogs were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes. This award requires the student-athletes to have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and have completed two academic terms. 14 Track and Field Bulldogs were awarded Academic All-Mountain West honors this season. In order to earn this award you much have a 3.0 or better grade point average, have completed one academic term and be a starter or significant contributor to your team. 2013: In his fifth season leading the Bulldogs, Coach Winsor was able to lead 14 members of the Fresno State track and field time to the NCAA West Preliminary Round, the most qualifiers in four years. 12 individuals from the Fresno State men's and women's track and field team were named All-Mountain West as well as both men's relay teams. Eight Bulldogs worked to get on the All-Time list in 13 events this season. This season the dogs were able to produce a NCAA All-American in Je'Nia Sears who set all-time school records in the long jump in both indoor (20-10.75) and outdoor (20-5.75) under the tutelage of coach Baptista. Sears earned the Indoor Mountain West Championship and also qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Round in both circuits. Meagan McKee claimed the Mountain West title in the hammer throw with a throw of 204'-03" (62.26m) that set a personal record and marked the #2 all-time hammer throw in Fresno State history. Her throws teammate J'Quyra Moncur-Blue placed third with a mark of 189'-06" (57.75m) and Tawnya Turton finished sixth with a throw of 180'-07" (55.05m). Michelle Rose set a new career-best distance of 149'-11" (45.70m) to earn a second-place finish at the Mountain West Championships. Her throw ranks as the #6 distance in Fresno State school history. The throws team's Indoor season was highlighted by Maegan McKee winning the Mountain West Championship in the women's weight throw with a toss of 64'-2.25" (19.56m). The distance team had great success this season, five Bulldogs made the Fresno State All-Time List in nine events. Carina Mendoza and Anne Marie Schwanz both made the All-Time list in 3 events each. Mendoza is ranked #9 in the 3000m with a time of 9:56, #5 in the 5000m with a time of 16:51.21and #4 in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:47.17 thanks to coach McManus. Schwanz, earned a #10 ranking in the 3000m with a time of 9:57.22, #9 in the 800m with a time of 2:10.79 and #6 in the 1500m with a time of 4:31.43. Stella Kubasch also made her mark on the All-Time list with an 800m run of 2:10.05 which makes her #5. Saylah Bersarian worked her way under coach McManus to the #7 spot in the 1500m with a time of 4:33.66. On the men's side, Michael Jamieson earned the #5 spot on the All-Time list with a run of 1:49.14 in the 800m. 2012: Coach Winsor's team had one of its best overall performances at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in 2012 with a combined seven championship titles and 30 medals. Devin Harrison was named WAC Freshman of the Year after winning the long jump and earning a second gold medal as a member of the WAC Champion 4x400m relay team. Winsor guided 11 student-athletes to qualifying for the NCAA regionals in Fresno State's final season in the WAC, the most the `Dogs have sent since 2008 when 17 of Winsor's student-athletes qualified. Four of Winsor's student-athletes were named to the 2012 Men's and Women's Division I All-Academic Track & Field team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches. On the men's side, rising sophomore jumper Devin Harrison received the All-Academic honor, while senior thrower J'Quyra Moncur-Blue, junior thrower Meagan McKee and former Bulldog javelin thrower Christina Cabias represented the 'Dogs on the women's side. Both the men's and women's teams earned the distinction as All-Academic teams in 2012 by recording at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA. The women recorded a team GPA of 3.25 and the men recorded a team GPA of 3.03. 2011: Winsor sent six qualifiers to the NCAA Regionals and had three student-athletes earn individual WAC Championships. Rosario Sanchez won the WAC Indoor shot put title, Justin Lovingood earned the triple jump Title and J'Quyra Moncur-Blue earned the hammer throw title and advanced to the NCAA Championships. Under Winsor, the Bulldogs had 34 student-athletes named to the All-Academic USTFCCCA Team. The men's team had 11, while the women's team had 23. Moncur-Blue was also named the 2011 WAC Most Outstanding Field Performer. The Bulldogs finished in sixth place at the 2011 WAC Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, the `Dogs took fourth place for both men's and women's WAC Championships. 2010: Winsor's outdoor team saw 11 student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Regionals and four student athletes earned individual WAC Championships. The indoor and outdoor teams combined for a total of 21 All-WAC honors in Winsor's second season. Thrower Rosario Sanchez finished 13th at the NCAA National Championships, recording a career-best throw of 52-9.50 in the shot put. At the 2010 WAC Outdoor WAC Championships, senior Frank Sanders recorded two individual titles in the 1500-meter and the 800-meter. Paul Zwama won the 5000-meter WAC title and Latrisha Jordan won the 400-meter hurdles for the second year in a row. Academically in 2010, Winsor's team had 32 Academic All-WAC honorees, and Moncur-Blue was named to the All-Academic USTFCCCA Team. Overall the women's team was named USTFCCCA All-Academic in 2010. With even further success off the track and field, Winsor's team continues to improve their Academic Progress Rate scores. The latest APR data released by the NCAA after the 2010 school year reflected scores on the Fresno State campus not only continued to rise, but by and large surpassed goals set forth by the athletic department just years ago. The NCAA standard APR score is set at 925. All three track and field groups have surpassed this standard with both the women's indoor and outdoor team scoring a 939 and the men's outdoor team scoring a 930. All three team improved their score from the last review by two to four points. 2009: In his first season, Winsor's Bulldogs brought home three All-American honors, 17 NCAA Regional qualifiers (21 entries) and six (five outdoor/one indoor) individual WAC Championships. The indoor and outdoor teams combined for a total 46 All-WAC honors under one season of Winsor's direction. Thrower Sharon Ayala earned All-American honors in the weight throw during the indoor season and then in the hammer during the outdoor season. Ayala was the first NCAA Indoor qualifier for Fresno State since 1999, setting a new Fresno State record of 66'-6" (20.26 meters) and taking sixth at the NCAA Championships. During the 2009 outdoor season, Ayala repeatedly smashed the Bulldog record for the hammer throw and marked the third-best throw in the country of 218-3 (66.52m) en route to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She also set a new hammer stadium record at Utah State's Ralph Maughan Track in Logan, Utah, during the WAC Outdoor Championships, where she picked up her fourth conference crown. Latrisha Jordan nabbed All-American honors in the 400-meter hurdles during her rookie campaign. Jordan broke the Fresno State record in the event early in the year and continued to better her mark throughout the season, ending the season with a new Bulldog record of 58.14. By the end of the season, Jordan had won the WAC crown for the 400 meter hurdles, earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors and advanced to the NCAA Championships. The freshman defied the odds, overcoming a No. 27 ranking entering the meet to finish eighth for All-American status. At the Outdoor WAC Championships, both the men's and women's teams found success in the relays. The teams mirrored each other in the events - both the men and the women won the 4x400 relay at the conference meet. Jordan also anchored the WAC title-winning 4x400 relay team. The team went on to take sixth at the NCAA Regional. The men also had success in 2009. As the Director of Track and Field, Winsor also oversees the cross country programs. After hiring Sean McManus as the cross country coach, Winsor saw immediate results in the teams, culminating in the Bulldog's first NCAA Championship qualifier since 1980. McManus coached Erick Garcia to an appearance at the NCAA Championships and to a Fresno State 10K record of 29:40.85 at the NCAA West Regional in Palo Alto, Calif. The Fresno State track and field program also made an academic statement in 2009. Twenty-five Bulldogs earned Academic All-WAC honors, two earned Academic All-District honors and five earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. ESPN the Magazine named Evan Young a first-team Academic All-District honoree before receiving the "Bulldog of the Year" honor. The award honors the two student-athletes that set the standard for the Bulldog experience through their athletic accomplishments, academic triumphs and community at Fresno State. Grace Wiesmann, one of the team's 21 NCAA Regional qualifiers, also earned academic honors from ESPN the Magazine. Wiesmann was named to the second team Academic All-District. NOTRE DAME: During his time in South Bend, Winsor served as an assistant coach to Joe Paine, working with both jumpers and throwers for 15 years. After Notre Dame expanded its staff in 2003, Winsor could finally focus solely on the jumping events. Winsor's record of success is an impressive one. During his tenure at Notre Dame, he coached 13 All-Americans and 25 NCAA Regional Qualifiers. After entering the Big East in 1996, Winsor coached 23 Big East Conference Champions and five conference record-setting student-athletes. Winsor coached his athletes to 20 qualifications for the NCAA Championships, with finishes among the top 10 in the country on 11 occasions. Winsor's athletes have pursued excellence in the classroom as well as on the field. Two of Winsor's athletes earned Academic All-American honors and one student-athlete was named an NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Winner. In the 2008 season, the men's team at Notre Dame won the Big East championship as Winsor and the rest of the Irish coaching brigade were named the Big East Men's Coaching Staff of the Year, the 11th such award for the staff. Winsor's record with women's pole vaulting fits seamlessly with the tradition of pole vault excellence at Fresno State. In 2008, Winsor coached Mary Saxer to the Big East title, Big East record and Notre Dame record of 13'-6.75" in the pole vault. Winsor's guidance also helped Jamie Volkmer evolve as the pioneer in women's pole vault at Notre Dame, winning seven All-Big East citations and becoming the first Irish female vaulter to clear the 13-foot barrier. Under Winsor, Notre Dame broke new ground in 1997 as Jennifer Engelhardt became the first member of Notre Dame's women's track & field team to qualify for the NCAA Championships in a field event. Engelhardt placed ninth in the indoor high jump en route to the first of her three All-America honors. Winsor also coached Tameisha King to long jump All-America honors four times including top-eight finishes in both the indoor and outdoor NCAA events in 2003. Some of Winsor's notable protégés on the men's side include two-time long jump All-American Marshaun West and indoor pole vault All-American Mike Brown. ADDITIONAL COACHING EXPERIENCE: Prior to his arrival at Notre Dame in 1988, Winsor spent two years as the varsity track coach at Fulton High School in Middleton, Mich., as well as one season as an assistant at his alma mater, Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. PERSONAL: A 1987 graduate of Loras College with a bachelor's degree in physical education, Winsor was a standout performer on the track squad, specializing in the jumping events. He was the team's captain for his final two seasons, helping Loras College win the 1987 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title. For nearly two decades, he also held the school record in the outdoor high jump 7'-0". Winsor went on to earn his masters of science in administration from University of Notre Dame in 1995.

Coach
McManus enters his eighth season leading Fresno State's cross country teams and the track and field distance squads. He has coached 63 All-Conference runners during his time as a Bulldog and seven Conference Champions. FRESNO STATE: During his time at Fresno State McManus has coached 19 athletes to the Bulldogs' All-Time List. McManus has taken Bulldog student-athletes to the NCAA Championships in both cross country and track and field. He has also led 15 FSU athletes to the NCAA Regionals. Cross Country 2015: The Bulldogs had a successful 2015 campaign placing seventh at the Mountain West Championships with all seven runners for the 'Dogs finishing in the top 60 overall. On the women's side, Mackenzie Landa led Fresno State with a 48th-place finish and Cristal Rivera and Brittany Laygo placed 63rd and 65th, respectively. Both the men and women saw their highest finish of the year as a team come at the UW Sundodger Invitational with the men placing fourth and the women coming in seventh. Individually, Cooper Gill led the men's team with five top finishes for the 'Dogs in his six races and Landa led the women with top finishes in four races. Gill notched the 10th & 11th fastest 8K times in program history at the Sundodger Invitational and Santa Clara Invitational. Landa also etched her name in the record books clocking the fifth and sixth fastest 6K times in program history at the UW Sundodger Invitational and the Stanford Invitational. Track 2015: The 2015 indoor and outdoor track seasons saw continued individual success for McManus. Leading the way was the record-setting performances from distance runner AnneMarie Schwanz as she broke school records in both the women's 1500 meters and 5000 meters record. The junior from Neuruppin, Germany set the 1500m record at the Payton Jordan Invitational with a time of 4:20.33 on April 17 and a week later shattered the 31-year old 5000m mark clocking a 16:23.63 at the Stanford Invitational. Additionally, Schwanz also ran the second-fastest time in program history in the 800m & 3000m and scored points at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships in the 1500m and 5000m. In addition to Schwanz, Dezirae Johnson placed fourth in the 800m (2:09.79) at the MWC Championships. In the indoor season, the distance medley relay of Meagan Paracholski, Njeri Omawahleh, Raven Nunez and Carina Mendoza finished fifth at the MWC Championships. Cross Country 2014: In his seventh season at the helm of the cross country program, the Bulldogs had a pair of top eight team finishes at the Mountain West Championships hosted by the Bulldogs at Woodward Park as the men finished seventh and the women placed eighth. On the men's side, all five scorers ranked in the top 50 and on the women's side, all five scorers placed in the top 70. Individually, junior AnneMarie Schwanz put together an outstanding season as she was the Bulldogs top finisher in all five meets she competed in which included winning the Fresno State Invitational. On the men's side, Matt Kwiatkowski led the way for the Bulldogs as he finished first or second in all five races he competed in and was the top finisher at the Mountain West Championships placing 31st overall. Track 2014: The highlight of the outdoor season was Kevin Poythress, 3000m steeplechase run in a time of 9:00.06, under the guidance of coach McManus, and recorded the ninth-best time in Fresno State history. Poythress also went on to compete in the 2014 NCAA West Preliminaries. During the indoor season Coach McManus lead senior Carina Mendoza to a 9th place finish in the 3000m at the Mountain West Championships. Mendoza also broke the indoor school record by more than seven seconds when she posted a time of 9:40.42 at the UW Invitational in the 3000m. The Fresno State distance medley team of Mendoza, Ja'Nia Sears, Melanie Baran, and AnneMarie Schwanz finished fourth with a time of 12:17.98 at the Mountain West Championships. Cross Country 2013: In his sixth season, McManus had a strong showing from his team. AnneMarie Schwanz, a sophomore from Germany, shattered the 6K school record twice this season by over 20 seconds. At the NCAA West Regionals meet she ran her best 6K time under coach McManus of 20:34. She also broke the women's 5k record by running 17:06 which puts her #1 on the Bulldog's All-Time list at both distances. Fresno State men's cross country team finished in seventh with 222 points at the 2013 Mountain West Championships at Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course. The women's team finished in 8th with 201 points. At the NCAA West Regionals McManus had 3 men cross country runners finish in the top 140. Chriss Grimble was the top finisher for the men. The junior finished in 100th with a time of 31:57. Seniors Danny Vartanian (31:59) and Kevin Poythress (32:51), who were the top two finishers for Fresno State in every race except for this one, finished in 102nd and 140th, respectively. Nine student-athletes earned All-Mountain West Academic Honors (3 men 6 women). Track 2013: McManus had a lot of individual success with his Bulldogs on the Track this season. Five Bulldogs made the Fresno State All-Time List in nine events. Carina Mendoza and Anne Marie Schwanz both made the All-Time list in 3 events each. Mendoza is ranked #9 in the 3000m with a time of 9:56, #5 in the 5000m with a time of 16:51.21and #4 in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:47.17 thanks to coach McManus. Schwanz, earned a #10 ranking in the 3000m with a time of 9:57.22, #9 in the 800m with a time of 2:10.79 and #6 in the 1500m with a time of 4:31.43. Stella Kubasch also made her mark on the All-Time list with an 800m run of 2:10.05 which makes her #5. Saylah Bersarian worked her way under coach McManus to the #7 spot in the 1500m with a time of 4:33.66. On the men's side, Michael Jamieson earned the #5 spot on the All-Time list with a run of 1:49.14 in the 800m. Cross Country 2012: In his fifth season, McManus lead sophomore Lyndsie Etherton to a first place finish where she clocked in the second fastest time in Bulldog history for a 5k with a time of 17:13. The Fresno State men raced to a sixth-place finish, while the women placed seventh on Friday at the Mountain West Championships. 11 student-athletes earned All-MW Academic Honors (5 men 6 women). Track 2012: McManus guided Olivier Bernard to the NCAA Preliminary Round Championship in Austin, Texas after winning the Western Athletic Conference Championships in the 1500-meter with a time of 3:46.57. Bernard's time at the WAC Championship meet placed him in the record books as the eighth-best 1500m in Fresno State history. The fifth year assistant coach helped place freshman Meagan Paracholski into the Fresno State record books in the 800m last season. Paracholski clocked a 2:11.63 to break into the Fresno State top-10 in her first year on campus. Cross Country 2011: In his fourth season as cross country head coach, McManus guided yet another freshman-phenom, Lyndsie Etherton, as she was awarded Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Conference honors. On the men's side, senior Eric Battles and junior Carson Keller both garnered second-team All-Conference in 2011. The men's and women's teams both finished fourth overall at the WAC championship. The women sent seven to the NCAA Regionals, which included four underclassmen. 2011 also set marks in academic success as the women's cross country team had six Academic All-WAC Honorees. The most the program has seen since 2004. The men's team had five honorees, which tied the 2009 squad for the most in the past five seasons. Track 2011: During the women's indoor season, McManus led the `Dogs to a sixth place finish at the WAC Championships. Mile runners Saylah Bersarian and Marrijtje Molenhuis placed in second and fourth place, respectively. Both the men's and women's outdoor teams finished the WAC outdoor season in fourth place. The Bulldogs had 34 student-athletes earn USTFCCA All-Academic honors in 2011. Cross Country 2010: In McManus' third season coaching cross country, he coached freshman Oliver Collin who became the WAC Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2011. The Fresno State men's team finished fourth overall at the WAC Championship, while the women's team finished fifth overall. McManus also led a squad of six to the NCAA West Regional in Springfield, Ore. In 2010 the Fresno State men's and women's cross country teams earned eight All-WAC Academic honors. Four female student-athletes and four male student-athletes achieved success on and off the cross country path. Eric Battles, Michael Jamieson, Carson Keller, and Danny Vartanian earned the honor for the men's team, while Stevie Brumwell, Julianne Warmerdam, Pamela Cruz, and Marrijtje Molenhuis for the women's team. Track 2010: In his second season, McManus led the Bulldogs to three WAC Outdoor individual titles, one indoor individual title and two NCAA Regional qualifications. The Bulldogs were led by Frank Sanders, who won the 1500-meter and 800-meter WAC Outdoor titles. Sanders went on to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. Paul Zwama won the 5000-meter outdoor title and Roxanne Sellick won the 1500-meter indoor title. Academically, McManus had 10 student-athletes named to the Academic All-WAC team and helped the Bulldogs became nationally recognized to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. Cross Country 2009: In his second season at the helm of the cross country program, McManus coached the Bulldog men to their best conference finish in nearly 20 years. The men took second at the 2009 WAC Championships, Fresno State's best finish at the conference championship since the team's 1991 second place finish in the Big West. Erick Garcia paced the team with a second place finish and First-Team All-WAC honors. Zwama, a newcomer to the cross country team, and freshman Danny Vartanian also picked up all-conference accolades. The women's team continued to grow as a team, bettering their standing within the conference and producing an all-conference performer in Sellick. Sellick rounded out her senior campaign with four Top 10 finishes including an individual meet title and an eighth place finish in conference. Ten cross country student-athletes earned the conference's academic award, including five men and five women. Eric Battles, Max Hernandez, Mitchell Pfyl, Sanders and Zwama all earned Academic All-WAC honors for the men, while Stevie Brumwell, Marissa McPhail, Daysi Cruz, Sellick and Julianne Warmerdam were honored for the women. Track 2009 In his first season coaching the Bulldog distance racers, McManus's athletes garnered nine All-WAC honors, one conference title, two NCAA Regional qualifications and four Academic All-WAC honors. During the 2009 women's indoor track and field season, Roxanne Sellick finished third in the mile and fifth in the 3,000-meter run, earning two All-WAC honors. Sellick returned to the track, taking second in both the 1,500 and the 5,000 at the WAC Outdoor Championships for another pair of conference accolades. She also qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 1,500 and marked the second-best time in Fresno State history for the event. Marissa McPhail scored a fourth place finish in the 10,000 to earn all-conference honors as well. The men's outdoor track and field team grabbed four all-conference honors, including one conference crown, in the distance events in McManus's first season as well. Sanders won the 1,500 at the WAC Outdoor Championship, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. He had already qualified for the NCAA Regional and taken over eighth-place in the history books for Bulldogs in the event. Sanders also finished in sixth in the 800 at the conference championship. One of McManus's first recruits, Paul Zwama, had a strong showing at the WAC Outdoor Championships as well. Zwama scored a set of silver medals at the conference meet, finishing second in both the 5,000 and 10,000 races. Cross Country 2008: In his opening season, McManus coached Erick Garcia to an appearance at the NCAA Championships, a first for Fresno State since Tim Holmes' back-to-back appearances in 1979 and 1980. McManus also guided Garcia to a Fresno State 10K record of 29:40.85 at the NCAA West Regional in Palo Alto, Calif., besting Rich Lanford's 29:48 set in 1976 at the NCAA Championships. During the season, Garcia won the individual title at two meets and was edged in the final steps for the WAC individual crown at the conference championships. The men's team saw steady improvement under McManus's tutelage. Three Bulldogs earned All-WAC honors for 2008 as Garcia, Frank Sanders and Eric Battles placed among the Top 12 at the conference meet. Garcia also picked up two WAC Athlete of the Week awards during the season. With all three returning and the addition of top-tier recruits, McManus has high expectations for the team entering the 2009 season. McManus's first season coaching the women's team featured the Bulldog's improvement working as a team and setting personal bests. Jennifer Hernandez earned her first all-conference recognition; finishing eighth at the conference meet for second team All-WAC honors. Seven Bulldogs earned Academic All-WAC honors under McManus's guidance in the 2008 cross country season. Briana Cleary and McPhail earned the academic accolade for the women. Five men (Battles, Brandon Geis, Max Hernandez, Mitchell Pfyl and Sanders) picked up the conference academic honor. In his first season coaching the Bulldog distance racers, McManus's athletes garnered nine All-WAC honors, one conference title, two NCAA Regional qualifications and four Academic All-WAC honors. Florida State: McManus joined the Fresno State staff after spending three seasons as an assistant coach for Florida State. While at FSU, McManus assisted head coach Bob Braman in coaching the cross country teams as well as working with the distance runners in track and field. McManus helped guide the Seminole men's track and field team to three-consecutive NCAA Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and six ACC Championships. He also assisted in the Seminole women's top 25 finishes at the NCAA Championships. At FSU, McManus's athletes earned a wide array of honors, including three NCAA individual titles, 22 ACC individual championships and 19 All-American accolades. Notre Dame: Prior to FSU, McManus was an assistant cross country and track coach at Notre Dame from 2001-02 and 2003-05. McManus oversaw training for student-athletes competing in mid to distance and cross country events. He was instrumental in recruiting top local, national and international student-athletes to a highly competitive academic institution. During his time at Notre Dame, McManus coached student-athletes earning 25 All-Americans, 64 All-Big East and 22 All-Great Lakes Region honors as well as four Academic All-Americans. He helped produce thirteen individual Big East champions and two Big East Athletes of the Year. McManus is no stranger to the NCAA Championships scene as he helped the men's and women's cross country squads to multiple appearances. During McManus' tenure the men's team finished sixth (2001) and 11th (2004) and the women's team finished 19th (2001), 10th (2003) and fourth (2004). He was also an integral part of a Notre Dame staff that earned two Big East coaching staff of the year honors. University of Florida: From 2002-03, McManus served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Florida where he assisted the men's and women's cross country and distance programs. He helped produce six All-SEC, five All-South Region, one All-American and one Academic All-District award winner. McManus is no stranger to the NCAA Championships scene as he helped the men's and women's cross country squads to multiple appearances. During McManus' tenure the men's team finished sixth (2001) and 11th (2004) and the women's team finished 19th (2001), 10th (2003) and fourth (2004). He was also an integral part of a Notre Dame staff that earned two Big East coaching staff of the year honors. Personal: As an undergraduate, McManus attended Notre Dame from 1996 to 2001 where he earned a bachelor's of science in civil engineering. He competed four years in cross country and track. While running for the Irish, he helped his cross country team to four top 12 team finishes at the NCAA Championships. McManus earned a master's of science in exercise science with a specialization in sports pedagogy and an emphasis on athlete motivation from the University of Florida.
