Magley was named Sacramento State Director of Track & Field/Cross Country on Nov. 25, 2015. Along with overseeing the Hornet program, Magley will continue to work with the Sacramento State throwers. Magley joined the Hornet coaching staff in 2006. While serving as an assistant he also managed the programs equipment and apparel, while assisting with home meet management duties, and team statistics. The Hornet throwers have enjoyed much success under Magleys leadership. In nine seasons they have; earned two NCAA All-America accolades, provided the programs first NCAA Indoor Championship competitor, sent 28 to compete at the NCAA championship meets, won 12 Big Sky Conference titles, earned 43 all-conference honors, established 24 school records, set three conference all-time and four championship meet records and produced 130  all-time top 10 Sacramento State marks. Last season was another year of success for the Hornet throwers. Zach Coniglio competed in the shot put in four meets during the indoor regular season, winning three, including the Big Sky Championship. His best throw of 61-03.50 placed him second on the all-time top 10 list and was 29th in the NCAA. Outdoors, Emily Kersting punched her ticket to the NCAA first round for the fourth time with a best of 156-03 which ranks second in school history. In 2013, Magley coached Jesse Elvrom to first team All-America honors after he placed sixth in the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Elvrom also won the Big Sky title and set the school record with a toss of 239-06. Along with Elvrom, Zach Coniglio and Erinn Jones each won Big Sky event titles. Coniglio finished first in the shot put at both the Big Sky indoor and outdoor championships. Jones was the Big Sky champion in the weight throw and set the school record in the indoor shot put (50-05.25) and the weight throw (66-02.25). In 2012, the Hornet throwers continued to have a big impact during the championship season. The women were led by senior Ify Agwuenu who claimed the Big Sky outdoor shot put title and finished 13th at the NCAA West Preliminary with a school record of 52-02.50. During the year, Agwuenu also set the school record in the weight throw (64-05.25) while finishing second at the Big Sky Championships. For the men, Jesse Elvrom had a breakout year in the javelin, finishing second at the Big Sky meet and 13th at the NCAA West Preliminary. His best mark of 222-02 established the school record. Sophomore Zach Coniglio finished first at the Big Sky indoor meet and was second outdoors in the shot put. His distances of 58-07.25 indoors and 58-03.00 outdoors both rank second in program history. 2011 was a big year for Magleys throw group. Leading the way for the women was Andi Behring who claimed the title at the Big Sky indoor championships with a school record toss of 50-03.50. Outdoors, she finished second by less than an inch and competed at the NCAA Championships. Sophomore Emily Kersting led a one-two sweep of the javelin with a winning toss of 150-04. Taylor Weldon and Blair Wallingford led the way for the men, placing second in the shot put and javelin, respectively, at the outdoor championship. They were accompanied by a young group which claimed eight scoring places totaling the most points in any championship meet since Magleys arrival. In 2010, Magley coached athletes had a terrific year. Junior Ify Agwuenu won her second outdoor Big Sky championship in as many years in the shot put. Additionally, Magley ushered in a new era for the javelin with three freshmen who each qualified for the USATF Jr. National championship meet and two (Kersting and Holly Frazier) finished in the top eight at the conference championship. Magley coached Agwuenu to Sacramento State and Big Sky conference prominence  in 2009. Agwuenu, won the outdoor championship in the shot put while finishing second indoors. She placed sixth just one spot out of an NCAA automatic championship meet berth at the West NCAA Regional championship with a lifetime best and school record 50-06.75. Junior Nick Mills also excelled as he broke the school record in the javelin with a mark of 215-11, while placing sixth at the West NCAA Regional. In 2008, Magley coached three Sacramento State throwers to all-conference honors. Monica Gomez earned the honor indoors in the shot put. During the year, Gomez set the school indoor record in the shot put with a mark of 47-05.75, Agwuenu broke the outdoor shot put record with a put of 47-07.75 and Ast bettered her own javelin mark with a throw of 158-10. Agwuenu and Ast each also qualified for the NCAA West Regional. David Nichols highlighted 2007 with a Big Sky indoor conference championship in the shot put (62-02). His mark established new school, conference meet and all-time conference records. The put also sent him to his first appearance at the NCAA Championships where he finished 10th. In doing so, he became the first Hornet to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet. The outdoor season provided four all-conference finishes, two school records and qualified three to compete at the NCAA West Regional. That list included Nichols, who placed third at the regional and qualified for his third outdoor NCAA National Championship meet. Magleys first year with the program was memorable in 2006. Hornet throwers broke five school records, won one conference championship, earned four all-conference honors and qualified four to the NCAA West Regional. He guided Nichols to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships where he became the first Sacramento State two-time All-American and broke his own school record by two feet.
