Brady Bergeson
Head Coach
Brady Bergeson was announced as the fourth head coach in the history of the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball program on June 30, 2025. Bergeson came to CSUSM from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, where he was the Rangers’ head coach since 2015. In his time there, Bergeson tallied a 164-121 record (.575) with two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, eight RMAC Tournament appearances, one RMAC Tournament Championship and four 20-win seasons. Prior to Regis, Bergeson’s first stop as a head coach was at Western Oregon from 2011 to 2015, posting a 69-45 record (.605). In his final season there in 2014-15, Bergeson led the Wolves to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and GNAC Conference Championship while being named the GNAC Coach of the Year. Before becoming a head coach, Bergeson was an assistant coach at Sacramento State (2008-11) and Metro State (2002-08). In his time at Metro State, he helped coach the Roadrunners to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Final Four in 2004 and the Elite Eight in 2005. A product of Mark Morris High School in Longview, Washington, Bergeson graduated with honors from Chapman University in 2000, earning a bachelor’s in Psychology while being a four-year varsity point guard, team captain and Student-Athlete of the Year for the Panthers. Bergeson later earned his master’s in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2007. Bergeson and his wife Brooke have three children: Dash, Pilot and Clutch. Walt Fisher III
Assistant Coach
Walter Fisher III joined the Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team as an assistant coach in August 2023. Fisher, who everyone knows as Coach Fish, spent the 2022-23 season at North Idaho College, where he was instrumental in helping the team have an undefeated regular season as well as the highest team GPA in the 2000s. Fisher was also heavily involved in recruiting and brought in two top freshmen to the squad with one being ranked in the ESPN Top 40. Fisher also helped all 6 sophomores garner four-year athletic scholarships in his lone season at the junior college ranks with NIC. In the grassroots community, Fisher co-founded Team RWA in 2015, and his program was regarded as one of the best independent programs in the country. Fisher and the Team RWA training program has helped 70 former players earn basketball scholarships while another five went on to play college football. Fisher has worked as a traveling coach for Nike combines and clinics and is well renowned on the camp and clinic circuit working with John Lucas, Pangos, NBAPA and advanced NBA player camps. Fisher is an experienced sports performance basketball trainer who has utilized his cutting edge program that has helped funnel seven different players onto national teams, including one gold medal USA member. There are currently five Team RWA alums who are playing professionally overseas or in the NBA G League. Fisher spent four seasons as assistant men's basketball coach at Governors State. Over the past three seasons Fisher has recruited over 35 athletes, including filling a junior varsity team in less than 2 weeks. His past three classes have been ranked nationally and had tremendous production for the Jaguars early into their careers. He also served as the No. 2 assistant on the bench. In 2019-20, Fisher assisted Coach Bates and Romeli with bench duties while also helping assemble the 2020-21 recruiting class, which included several D1 recruits that bolstered the class with a top-10 national ranking. Fisher is a native of Dolton, Illinois. He was a three-sport all-state athlete while in high school with offers in basketball, football, and track. Transferring back home after his father passed, he finished his career at Millikin University where he was a two-sport athlete in basketball and football. His basketball team advanced to conference and national tournaments during his junior and senior seasons. Fisher graduated Cum Laude with a dual bachelor's degree in marketing and management, and finance in 2009. Fisher went on to attend Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he pursued a Juris Doctorate in contractual law.

Cory Coombe
Assistant Coach
Cory Coombe joined the Cal State San Marcos Department of Athletics as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach on Aug. 1, 2025. Coome came to CSUSM from the University of Redlands, where he was the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach from 2020 to 2025. While at Redlands, Coombe helped the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Division III Elite Eight appearance in school and conference history in 2024-25 and the program's highest four-year win total in school history. Before Redlands, Coombe spent the 2018-20 seasons at Whittman College in Walla Walla, Washington, as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. In his first year coaching at the collegiate level in 2018-19, Coombe helped coach the Blues to an NCAA Division III Sweet 16 appearance and helped the team return to the Round of 64 in 2019-20. Before joining the collegiate ranks, Coombe was the Head Coach of the junior varsity boys' basketball squad at Lake Oswego High School while also assisting with the varsity team. Coombe competed for the Lewis & Clark College (OR) men's basketball team for four years, twice earning a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Academic Honors Court and competing in the Northwest Conference Championship game in 2014-15. He completed his degrees in Economics and Rhetoric & Media Studies in 2017 and completed his Master's in Sports Management from the University of Florida in 2021.
