Gabriel Bolton

Head Coach

Bolton reached a career milestone by winning his 100 match as head coach of the Warriors.  His current record thru 2015 is 130-68-25 (.676).  He is also one of only three active coaches to win multiple CCAA womens soccer championships.   In 2015 Bolton led the Warriors to the CCAA Championship match and an overall record of 12-6-3.  The 2014 team captured the programs first NCAA West Region Championship by blanking Cal Poly Pomona, 2-0, in Golden, Colo.  Stanislaus State advanced to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, eventually falling to Colorado School of Mines in penalty kicks. The 2014 squad was the first womens soccer team in history to reach a #1 national ranking.  Stanislaus State finished the season ranked #9 nationally.    With a 2-0 victory over Sonoma State the Warriors won the 2013 CCAA Championship and became the first undefeated team in CCAA history to win a conference championship.  The Warriors were 18-0-2 before falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  In addition to breaking nearly every record in program history the 2013 squad also reached a program-high #5 national ranking by the NSCAA and were ranked as high as #2 in the nation by the Bennett Ranking Services.    In 2011, the Warriors demolished Chico State 4-0 in the CCAA championship match before nearly 1,500 fans and a live television audience.  The Warriors finished 11-4-6 and ranked #24 in the nation.  Under Boltons guidance the Warriors also appeared in the post season in 2010 and 2012.    Bolton is responsible for recruiting and developing the 2013 NSCAA Diviaion II Player of The Year and four-time All American Karenee Demery.  During his coaching tenure with the Warriors he has coached three All Americans, 27 All West Region (CoSIDA, NSCAA) players, and 33 All CCAA award winners.    The Warriors, who are know for their exciting brand of attacking soccer have led all NCAA Division II schools in attendance every year since 2008.    The soccer pitch is not the only place the Warriors have been successful.  Upon his arrival at the Turlock campus Bolton spearheaded an academic initiative for the womens soccer team known as .  The results have been exceptional.  The Warriors have averaged a grade point average of over 3.1 during his tenure and the program has been recognized by the NSCAA on seven occasions for their academic achievement.    In 2012 Cal State Stanislaus reached a major milestone when two student-athletes (Demery, Bernie Bettencourt) were named Academic All American.  Bolton has also coached 68 CCAA All-Academic team members.    Bolton is in his second stint coaching the Warriors.  He coached the team in 2001 before returning in 2006.  In 2001 he turned around one of the worst programs in NCAA Division II by leading the Warriors to an 11-8-1 record. In the three years before his arrival, the program tallied just a 7-48-1 record. The Warriors were ranked the fourth-most improved womens soccer program in the nation by the NCAA at the conclusion of the year. After the 2001 season, Bolton left to become the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. During his three seasons at Utah, the Utes made three NCAA Division I tournament appearances, won the Mountain West Conference Championship tournament in 2003 and 2004 and posted an overall record of 42-12-8. The program was also ranked in the top 25 nationally all three seasons and in both 2003 and 2004, cracked the nations top 15 rankings. As recruiting coordinator with the Utes, Bolton recruited three nationally-ranked recruiting classes. In 2002 and 2004, his classes were ranked No. 37 in the country and in 2003 his class was ranked No. 17the highest-ranked recruiting class in Utah and MWC history. During his three years at Utah, Bolton coached 14 all-conference players, 38 academic all-conference players, six NSCAA All-West Region players, five freshmen All-Americans, and two Verizon Academic All-Americans. Utah also received the NSCAA Team Academic Award all three years.   Bolton currently holds a Premier Diploma from the NSCAA.  He graduated from UC Davis with a degree in political science and sociology.  He also earned his law degree from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.   He and his wife Kathy Koumjian Bolton have three children: Sophia and twins Brynne and Ben. Gabriel Bolton

Adam James

Head Coach

Stan State’s Director of Athletics Aaron Allaire has announced the hiring of Adam James as the fifth head coach in Stan State women’s soccer program history. James arrives at Stan State following a standout stint as the assistant women’s soccer coach at Azusa Pacific University, where he helped guide one of the nation’s premier NCAA Division II programs. During his tenure, the Cougars captured the 2025 PacWest Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional title match, earning West Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors and a Sweet 16 appearance. The program also made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2024 and 2025 — its first since 2016. In 2024 and 2025, the Cougars posted back-to-back 12-win seasons, finishing 12-4-5 and 12-4-1, respectively.  “We are incredibly excited to welcome Adam and his wife, Charity, to Stan State. We had an extremely competitive pool of candidates which shows to the health and excitement of this program. Adam stood out with his vision he had for both the future of the program and this current team. We have had a strong tradition of excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community and we look forward to continuing that on. It is a great time to be a Warrior Soccer supporter!” said Stan State Director of Athletics Aaron Allaire. At Azusa Pacific, James played a central role in recruiting strategy, roster management, training periodization, tactical planning, and match-day decision-making, helping the Cougars reach their highest national ranking in school history (#9) and set a program record with 10 consecutive shutouts. He recruited and developed multiple high-impact student-athletes, including the 2025 PacWest Freshman of the Year, the PacWest Defender of the Year, All-Americans, and six All-West Region selections. James also currently serves as an assistant women’s soccer coach with FC Premier in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), helping the club achieve a No. 1 West Region ranking and No. 2 national ranking during the 2025 season. Prior to his time at Azusa Pacific, James was an assistant men’s soccer coach at Cal State San Bernardino, where he helped lead the program to a Top 25 national ranking and coached four players who advanced to the professional ranks, including athletes now with LAFC and the LA Galaxy. His coaching background also includes roles at Benedictine College and William Jewell College, along with serving as a head high school coach and founding his own player development academy. A former collegiate All-American, who led his team in goals and points, and a professional player. James competed in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) earning All-MASL and All-MASL Rookie Team. His professional career started with the Kansas City Comets from 2017-22 and continued to the Empire Strykers from 2022-24.    “I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead Stanislaus State Women’s Soccer. I look forward to building strong relationships within the program and pursuing excellence both on and off the field. I am excited to get to work and represent the Warrior community with pride,” noted James. James holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Azusa Pacific University (2025) and a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Benedictine College (2018). He also holds multiple coaching certifications, including a USSF C License and a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma.

After playing college soccer I got my teaching credential and started teaching high school English and coaching high school soccer. I was an assistant coach at Concord High and Central Catholic in Modesto,CA. During this time I also began coaching at Stanislaus as their Goalkeeper coach. After moving job sites, I took over the Turlock High Girls Soccer program, after an undefeated season with JV and have been the Varsity head coach the past 3 years.
