A former four-year starter for the Vulcans and a veteran offensive coordinator at the FCS level, Gary Dunn enters his 10th season as head coach at California (PA) in 2025. Dunn has enjoyed incredible success in his return to his alma mater as head coach. He has guided the program to a 66-24 overall record behind a 48-11 mark in PSAC West play. Dunn ranks second in school history in wins after leading the Vulcans to at least seven victories seven times. Additionally, he joins Bill Steers (1929-40), Ted Nemeth (1950-61), Jeff Petrucci (1981-92) and John Luckhardt (2002-11) as the only coaches to lead the program for at least a decade. Under Dunn, the Vulcans have placed six standouts on the AFCA All-America Teams while featuring four regional candidates for the Harlon Hill Trophy. Cal has received eight major PSAC post-season awards since his arrival (PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Year, three times; PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year, twice; PSAC West Freshman of the Year, three times) and the program has totaled 87 All-PSAC West selections during that time with 52 honorees being chosen to the All-PSAC West First-Team. Cal advanced to the Super Region One Championship for the second time under Dunn in 2024. The Vulcans closed the year with a 10-3 overall record behind an undefeated mark in PSAC West play for only the fifth time in school history. Dunn was chosen the PSAC West Coach of the Year for the first time in his career, as Cal ranked No. 12 in the final AFCA Top 25 poll. The Vulcans played eight games decided by seven points or less, including two fourth-quarter comebacks in the NCAA Playoffs, and faced champions from three different conference last fall. In 2021, the Vulcans opened the campaign with eight-consecutive victories before finishing the year with a 9-1 overall record and tied for first place in the PSAC West standings. The Vulcans reached as high as No. 3 in the AFCA Top 25 poll despite not debuting in the poll until Week 4. Defensive back Jermal Martin, Jr. received All-America recognition from five different organizations, plus was chosen the Super Region One Defensive Player of the Year and PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year, while quarterback Noah Mitchell was selected the PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Year. The Vulcans led NCAA Division II in rushing defense in 2019 by allowing only 56.5 yards per game and tied for third in the country with a plus-16 turnover margin. In 2018, Cal tied for second in the PSAC West standings, which included an upset victory over then-No. 2 IUP in the annual Coal Bowl. Cal featured both the PSAC West Freshman of the Year in Mitchell and PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year in Lamont McPhatter II, a consensus First-Team All-American. In 2017, Cal earned the sixth seed for the NCAA Playoffs after closing the regular season on a five-game winning streak. The Vulcans finished the year with a 9-3 overall record behind three fourth-quarter comeback victories. Offensive lineman Taylor Nikithser became the program’s second Division II recipient of the Rimington Award, which recognizes the most outstanding center, and was also named an AFCA All-American The Vulcans registered an undefeated regular season in 2016 that was capped by the program’s first PSAC Championship since 2008. Cal also advanced to the third round of the NCAA Playoffs while making its first post-season appearance in five years. Dunn was selected the AFCA Region 1 Coach of the Year after leading the program to an 11-1 overall record with four wins over top-25 opponents. In 2016, the Vulcans boasted the highest scoring offense in NCAA Division II at 49.6 points per game. Cal featured a school-record 19 honorees on the All-PSAC West Teams and Garry Brown became only the second wide receiver in the last 25 years to be selected the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year. Brown was a national finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy and was a consensus First-Team All-American as a senior while shattering multiple single-season and career school records. In addition to success on the field, the Vulcans have earned recognition in the classroom under Dunn. Cal has featured eight players selected Academic All-Americans since 2016 and have featured seven semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is presented to the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. Additionally, the Vulcans have had a total of 33 players recognized by the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. Dunn previously spent six seasons as the offensive coordinator at nearby Duquesne following a 13-year stint at Morehead State (Ky.), where he spent the last 11 seasons as offensive coordinator. He played at Cal from 1991-94 before starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Vulcans. In 2015, the Dukes finished with an 8-4 overall record and made the program’s first appearance in the FCS Playoffs. Dunn worked with the top-ranked offense in the Northeast Conference (NEC), as Duquesne led the league with 30.7 points, 416.5 yards of total offense, 171.8 rushing yards and 244.8 passing yards per game. The Dukes boasted seven All-NEC selections on offense, including three first-team honorees. Dunn helped Duquesne post a winning season five times in his six years with the program, while earning at least a share of three NEC titles (2011, 2013, 2015). He mentored a total of 26 All-NEC selections with the Dukes, including three-time honoree Larry McCoy, who held the all-time school record with 4,549 rushing yards. Additionally, wide receiver Chris King earned All-NEC laurels in each of his last two years behind consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and a combined 22 receiving touchdowns. In 2011, the Dukes registered their winningest season in nearly a decade with a 9-2 mark. Duquesne led the NEC with 212.8 rushing yards per game and ranked second in the league with 33.7 points and 415.3 yards of total offense per game. McCoy finished ninth in the country with 125.6 rushing yards per game, while wide receivers Isaac Spragg and Connor Dixon paced the league in receptions and receiving yards, respectively. While at Morehead State, Dunn served as the offensive coordinator for 11 seasons after spending two seasons as the offensive line and tight ends coach. In 2000, the Eagles led the FCS with 41.6 points and 523.9 yards of total offense behind the play of quarterback David Dinkins, a native of Pittsburgh. MSU matched the winningest season in school history in 2002, finishing with a 9-3 overall record behind an offense that ranked ninth in the country with 425.7 yards of total offense per game. Dunn was a four-year starter on the offensive line for the Vulcans from 1991-94 and played for head coaches Jeff Petrucci and Kevin Donley. He was a team captain and earned All-PSAC West First-Team honors at center as a senior before spending two seasons working with the offensive linemen and tight ends with the Vulcans under Donley. A native of Pittsburgh, Dunn earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal in political science in 1995 and completed his master’s degree in geography and regional planning from Cal in 1997. He and his wife, Melissa, reside in Coal Center, Pennsylvania, with their daughter, Sydney.

Kyle Bennett
Head Coach
A graduate of the university and a veteran assistant coach with the programs, Kyle Bennett enters his third season as head coach at California (PA) in the 2025-26 campaign. Bennett previously served six years as an assistant coach with the Vulcans before being appointed head coach in the summer of 2023. During his time with the golf programs, Cal has featured multiple PSAC Athlete of the Year and PSAC Freshman of the Year recipients with a combined 18 All-PSAC selections. Last spring, the men’s team registered its best at the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championships in over a decade behind multiple sub-300 rounds. The Vulcans also posted a top-five finish during the fall at the PSAC Championships for the third-straight season, the longest stretch since 2011-17. Cole Villa received All-PSAC honors last year following a top-15 overall performance at the regional championships. Bennett previously worked with three-time, all-region honoree Ryan Smith. He placed third overall at the 2017 PSAC Championships, as the Vulcans finished second in the team standings, and the following year was named the PSAC Champion Scholar. Smith closed his junior campaign by finishing in 10th place at the regional championships, which Cal hosted at Totteridge Golf Club in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. On the women’s side, Bennett has helped the Vulcans record a trio of top-three finishes at the PSAC Championships. Cal placed second at the 2023 PSAC Championships behind multiple top-five golfers on the individual leader board. The Vulcans have featured at least one All-PSAC selection in each of his eight years with the program. Bennett aided in the development of four-time All-PSAC honoree Rachel Wilson, who was also tabbed the 2019 PSAC Freshman of the Year. She earned All-PSAC first-team status in each of her last three seasons while carding a top-three finish at the league championships each year. The Vulcans have enjoyed tremendous academic success in recent years. The women’s program has earned the PSAC Team GPA Award twice in the last three years, as during the 2022-23 academic year it boasted the second-highest GPA of all league teams at league institutions – a total of 292 teams. Additionally, a total of 10 women’s golfers have earned CSC Academic All-District laurels over the last three years in the new structure for the Academic All-America programs. The men’s program also featured the highest GPA of all men’s teams at Cal in the 20204-25 academic year. A native of New York, Bennett was one of six finalists for the 2022 Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award presented by TaylorMade Golf Company. He was the lone NCAA Division II finalist among the group as the other assistants were from Kansas, North Carolina, Pepperdine, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. Bennett previously served as an assistant golf professional at Lone Pine Country Club in nearby Washington, Pennsylvania. While residing in Washington County, he also spent time as a coach at the scholastic level by working with the junior varsity program at Trinity High School. Bennett earned his bachelor's degree in professional golf management with a minor in business administration from Cal in 2012. While pursuing his degree, he spent time working at The Chevy Chase Club in Maryland, the Country Club of York in Pennsylvania and Valley Brook Country Club in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. As a senior at Cal, Bennett played for the PGM club team before becoming the Tri-State Assistant Tournament Points Leader in 2016. He has posted seven top-10 finishes at the Tri-State Assistant Section Championship in the last eight years and qualified for the 2017 National Assistant Championship. Bennett won the Tri-State PGA Associate Player of the Year Award in 2020. Bennett was elected into PGA Membership in the fall of 2020. He qualified for the 2024 Tri-State Palmer Cup Team by finishing among the top 10 in the point standings. He resides in Washington, Pennsylvania, with his girlfriend Ashley and dog Yeti.

David Paladino
Assistant Coach
A former collegiate golfer, David Paladino begins his third year as assistant coach at California (PA) in the 2025-26 season. Paladino was a four-year golfer at Westminster (PA), a NCAA Division III program, from 2010-14. As a freshman, he earned All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Second-Team honors with a top-10 finish at the league championships held at the Oak Tree Country Club. Paladino later was a leading team scorer at the PAC Championships in his last two seasons after the 2012 event was cancelled due to weather. In each of the last two years, Paladino has worked with an All-PSAC selection on both the men’s and women’s teams. Reese Watson qualified as individual for the 2024 NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championships and carded one of the program’s lowest single-season scoring averages in the last 15 years. On the women’s side, Keegan Selinsky and Ari Kaser have been tabbed as All-PSAC honorees following career best scoring averages. Paladino serves as a golf instructor at Cool Springs Golf Center in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, plus is a caddy at the Oakmont Country Club. He previously was a client solutions director at Robert Half for seven years and also had professional experience with The Princeton Review and PNC Financial Services. A native of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, Paladino earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics from Westminster in 2014.

Tyler Orlosky
Assistant Coach
A former All-American at West Virginia, Tyler Orlosky begins his first season as the offensive line coach at California (PA) in 2025. Orlosky spent the previous two seasons on coaching staffs with head coach Mike Jacobs, who served as the defensive line coach with the Vulcans from 2008-13. In 2023, he worked at the NCAA Division II level at Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) before coaching at Mercer (Ga.) in the NCAA FCS level last year. Orlosky started his coaching career with the Mountaineers as an offensive graduate assistant before spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Ohio Dominican. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Orlosky helped Mercer capture its first outright conference title in over 90 years in 2014. The Bears set the school record with 11 wins and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first time in program history. Mercer featured a trio of offensive linemen selected to the All-SoCon Teams with left guard Israel Mukwiza receiving first-team honors. Additionally, Riley Adcock was chosen a CSC First-Team Academic All-American after closing his career with 56-consecutive starts and Tyler Murray started every game at right guard in 2024 before being tabbed a Freshman All-American. Orlosky joined Lenoir-Rhyne in 2013 with the Bears winning the second-ever South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championship Game. Lenoir-Rhyne tied the single-season school record with 13 wins and advanced to the national semifinals of the NCAA Playoffs. The Bears led the SAC and ranked among the top 10 in the country with 202.9 rushing yards per game while averaging a league-high 37.7 points per game. Lenoir-Rhyne boasted three offensive linemen earning All-SAC laurels with right tackle Shane Wells later receiving first-team all-region status. At ODU, Orlosky helped the program record back-to-back, seven-win seasons after playing a modified 2020 campaign in the spring of 2021. The Panthers boasted 14 offensive selections on the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Teams in his two years with Ty Keirns being named the G-MAC Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior in 2022. Orlosky was a standout offensive lineman at WVU from 2012-16 while playing for Dana Holgorsen. He served as a two-time team captain for the Mountaineers and appeared in 50 career games with 42 starts. Orlosky was one of three national finalists for the Rimington Trophy as a senior and was tabbed to nine All-America Teams during his career. As a senior, WVU posted a 10-win campaign and tied for second in the Big 12 Conference before finishing No. 18 in the AP Top 25 Poll. Following his collegiate career, Orlosky was invited to the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles before returning to WVU as a graduate assistant under Holgorsen and Neal Brown. Orlosky earned his bachelor's degree in sport and exercise psychology from WVU in 2016. He later completed master's degrees in corporate communications and sports management from WVU.

Tony Papley
Assistant Coach
A former player and coordinator within the PSAC, Tony Papley enters his first season as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at California (PA) in 2025. Papley served as the defensive coordinator at Edinboro the previous five years after starting his coaching career at the NCAA FCS level with Duquesne. He served six seasons on the coaching staff with the Dukes after playing at Slippery Rock from 2009-13. At Edinboro, Papley utilized multiple defensive schemes and mentored a combined eight All-PSAC West selections. Linebacker Wilfredo Diaz, a native of Miami, received All-America recognition from multiple organizations in 2024 after leading NCAA Division II with both 13.6 tackles per game and 150 total tackles – the most by a PSAC player in over two decades. Diaz was the third linebacker for the Fighting Scots in as many years to reach the century mark. In 2022, Ohio native Clay Cunningham ranked fourth in the country with 11.4 tackles per game and finished with 125 total stops. The following year, CJ Waldier – a WPIAL product from Yough – registered 100 total tackles and was an All-PSAC West First-Team honoree. Edinboro ranked among the top five in the PSAC in turnovers and passing defense in 2022 while featuring a pair of All-PSAC West honorees. The Fighting Scots finished second in the league with 21 turnovers behind 13 interceptions from eight different players. Defensive back Allen Stritzinger, a transfer from Syracuse, led the team with four interceptions and added 53 tackles while being tabbed to the All-PSAC West Second-Team. The Fighting Scots closed the 2021 campaign with three-consecutive victories, including a victory at IUP to snap a six-game losing streak in the series. Edinboro boasted a trio of All-PSAC West selections with defensive back Deandre Dowdell, a native of Syracuse, New York, receiving first-team status after recording 64 tackles with a pair of blocked kicks. Papley oversaw the field-goal block unit at Edinboro with the program leading the country with 12 blocked kicks. Last year, Edinboro achieved the distinction of upsetting an FCS program in Week 2. The Fighting Scots earned a 23-21 win at Robert Morris after breaking a fourth-quarter tie with a defensive safety. Edinboro also captured its first home victory over IUP in two decades later in the fall. Papley started his coaching career as the defensive line coach at Duquesne in 2014 and later added roles of director of football operations and special teams coordinator. He helped the Dukes record six-consecutive winning seasons with three Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships and a pair of appearances in the NCAA FCS Playoffs. Papley served two years on the coaching staff with current California head coach Gary Dunn, who was the offensive coordinator. With the Dukes, Papley worked with nine All-NEC selections with Zach Zidian (2014-15) and Kam Carter (2018-19) earning first-team laurels in back-to-back years. Duquesne won its first-ever game in the FCS Playoffs over nationally-ranked Towson in 2019 and posted its winningest season in nearly a decade. A native of Slippery Rock, Papley appeared in 38 games for The Rock while playing for George Mihalik. He finished his career with 140 tackles (51 solo), 22.5 TFL and 8.0 sacks after transitioning to defense as a redshirt sophomore. Papley earned All-PSAC West First-Team honors as a senior in 2013 after helping Slippery Rock appear in the PSAC Championship for the second time in three years. Papley earned his bachelor's degree in resource management from Slippery Rock in 2013. He later completed a master's degree from Duquesne in sports leadership. He and his wife Mara reside in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, with their three children, Talena, Leola and Martello.

Jawan Turner
Assistant Coach
A former standout with the program, Jawan Turner enters his fourth season as the defensive coordinator at California (PA) in 2025 after serving as the linebackers coach for two years. Turner has developed a combined 15 All-PSAC West selections since being elevated to defensive coordinator, including eight first-team honorees. The Vulcans led the country in 2022 by allowing just 56.5 rushing yards per game while pacing the league in TFL and sacks per game. The following year, Cal ranked among the top 15 in the nation in sacks per game despite the loss of four All-PSAC West selections. A native of Pittsburgh, Turner has developed multiple All-PSAC West linebackers with Noah Dillow and Matt Tobery earning recognition a combined five times. Dillow was a two-time, first-team selection under Turner after totaling nearly 170 stops and 20.0 TFL over his last two seasons, while Tobey collected almost 200 stops in his three years as an all-league honoree. Turner started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Lenoir-Rhyne in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) in 2017 under former Cal head coach Mike Kellar (2012-15). The following year, the Bears recorded an incredible nine-win improvement and finished 12-2 overall under first-year head coach Drew Cronic, who is now the offensive coordinator at Navy. Lenoir-Rhyne posted a 7-0 league record to win the 2018 SAC Championship and advanced to quarterfinals of the NCAA Playoffs. While with the Bears, Turner worked with both outside linebackers and defensive ends. He aided in the development of All-American defensive end Jaquan Artis, who was a 2019 national finalist for both the Harlon Hill Trophy and Gene Upshaw Award. Artis closed his career with a then-school record 29.0 career sacks after leading the country with 14.5 sacks as a senior. Turner reunited with Kellar in 2019 as the defensive line coach at Glenville State. The Pioneers finished with a 7-4 overall record after winning their last three games of the season, highlighted by a road upset of MEC Champion Notre Dame (Ohio). Glenville State featured the top scoring defense and red-zone defense in the league, plus finished fourth in the MEC in rushing defense and total defense. A standout for the Vulcans, Turner was a three-year starter on the defensive line from 2014-16. He earned All-PSAC West status three times at Cal and twice received first-team honors. He led the team and ranked among the top 10 in the league in TFL and sacks during his first year as a starter. As a senior, he finished with nearly 50 tackles and garnered all-region laurels from multiple organizations. Turner served as a captain in 2016 and helped anchor a unit that finished in the top 10 in the country in total defense and scoring defense, as the Vulcans captured the PSAC Championship and advanced to the Super Region One Championship in the NCAA Playoffs. Turner completed his bachelor's degree in communication studies with a concentration in speech communication from Cal in 2017. He later earned his master's degree in leadership from Lenoir-Rhyne in 2019. He resides in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife Tialiah and their children, Trinity and Taylani.

Chad Salisbury
Assistant Coach
Salisbury enters his eighth season as quarterbacks coach at Cal U in 2016. Salisbury has mentored three of most prolific quarterbacks in program history, while working with one of top offenses in the conference each year. The Vulcans led the PSAC West in passing yards per game from 2010-12 and have ranked among the top three in the division in each of Salisburys seven years on staff. Additionally, Cal U has twice led the entire conference in passing efficiency and also finished second in the category two additional times. A former professional quarterback, Salisbury has mentored five All-PSAC West selections, including four first-team honorees, and James Harris was named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year in 2015. Additionally, Josh Portis was named a D2Football.com All-American as a senior before being one of only two non-FBS quarterbacks invited to the 2011 NFL Combine. Salisbury helped Portis set a single-season school record with 36 passing touchdowns in 2009 the first year Salisbury was on staff while leading the Vulcans to an appearance in the NCAA Semifinals for a third-consecutive season. Portis also led the PSAC with 3,421 passing yards and threw just nine interceptions on 407 attempts in his first year as a starter. The following season, Portis paced the PSAC and finished among the top 15 in the country in passing efficiency. The Vulcans ranked first among PSAC West programs in scoring offense, total offense and passing offense while making a fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA Playoffs. In 2011, Salisbury then mentored former Virginia quarterback Peter Lalich and Cal U ranked among the top four in the league in scoring offense, total offense, passing offense and passing efficiency. Lalich shattered the single-season school record with 3,725 passing yards and finished second in the PSAC with a 63.3 completion percentage on nearly 450 pass attempts, as Cal U made an appearance in the NCAA Playoffs. As a senior, Lalich was on pace for another 3,000-yard season before an injury forced him to miss over a third of the season. The Vulcans still managed to lead the PSAC West in both passing offense and total offense. Salisbury started working with Harris, a former NCAA Division I baseball player, in 2013 before Harris became the full-time starter in 2014. Harris finished No. 11 in the country with 305.5 passing yards per game while helping the Vulcans rank second in the PSAC in passing efficiency. As a senior, Harris became the first quarterback in school history to record multiple 3,000-yard seasons and led the league in passing efficiency. The PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year also led the country in passing yards per completion and finished second in passing yards per attempt. Prior to his coaching career, Salisbury played eight years in the Arena Football League with five different teams. He passed for over a combined 5,000 yards and 100 touchdowns in his final two seasons and finished his playing career in 2007 with the Grand Raids Rampage. Salisbury was a two-year starter at Buffalo after transferring from New Mexico State. As a junior at Buffalo, he set then single-season school records for passing yards and completion percentage. Salisbury still ranks among the all-time leaders in Bulls history in nearly every passing category, including passing yards and touchdowns. A native of the area, Salisbury started his coaching career at Frazier High School his alma mater and served as an assistant coach for current Cal U wide receivers coach/special teams coordinator Larry Wilson. Salisbury earned his degree in communication from Buffalo and completed his masters degree in sport management from Cal U. He has two daughters, Braylin and Madelyn.

Scott Venick

A longtime defensive coordinator in the area, Scott Venick enters his fourth season as the secondary coach at California (PA) in 2025. The Vulcans ranked among the top five in the PSAC last year in interceptions while eclipsing double-digits for the seventh time in the last decade. Defensive back Rashan Murray, who tied for second in the country in total passes defended, earned All-America laurels from multiple organizations before opting to use his senior year of eligibility at Pitt. Additionally, Dominic Solomon, Jr. became the only the fifth defensive back in the last four decades to collect All-PSAC laurels three times in a career. Venick previously spent 16 years at the defensive coordinator at Waynesburg, a nearby NCAA Division III program. The Yellow Jackets registered nine-consecutive winning seasons from 2006-14 and qualified for post-season play five times during that span. Waynesburg earned a share of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) title in 2012 while reaching double-digit wins for the first time since capturing the 1966 NAIA National Championship. While at Waynesburg, Venick mentored 40 All-PAC selections with defensive linemen Mike Czerwin (2007) and Brandon Fedorka (2013) both receiving Player of the Year honors as seniors. Czerwien led all NCAA divisions with 23.0 sacks and 34.5 TFL in 2007 while receiving All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press (AP) and D3football.com. Additionally, he had the distinction of breaking the NCAA all division record with 53.5 career sacks, which is still the most in NCAA Division III history and second-most across all divisions. Fedorka paced the PAC with 11.5 sacks and 21.5 TFL in 2013 while helping the Yellow Jackets make a third-straight appearance in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Bowl. Venick, who also served as assistant head coach at Waynesburg from 2016-2021, aided in the development of four-time All-PAC First-Team honoree Bryan Gary. He received all-league laurels while a linebacker in 2010 before transitioning to defensive back for the remainder of his career. The Yellow Jackets also featured a pair of Academic All-Americans in 2014 with linebacker John Sikora earning the accolade for the second-straight year. Sikora later spent four years on the coaching staff at Stanford. Prior to his time at Waynesburg, Venick served as the secondary coach for two seasons at nearby Washington & Jefferson, also a NCAA Division III program and member of the PAC. The Presidents made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Playoffs and set the school record with 12 wins in 2004 while advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Playoffs. W&J was among the national leaders with 27 interceptions in 2004, as the defense was anchored by two-time AFCA All-American Frank Pilato. Venick, who played at Salem (W.Va.) under Rich Rodriguez, spent time as a coach at the scholastic level in the area before transitioning to college. He was an assistant coach at both Jefferson-Morgan and Ringgold, where he later served two years as head coach. A native of Greene County, Venick earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Waynesburg in 1993. He and his wife Julie reside in Rices Landing, Pennsylvania, with their three daughters, Emily, Kaylin and Riley. Twins Emily and Kaylin previously played on the Slippery Rock women’s basketball team with Emily playing her final season at Chatham and Kaylin continuing her career at Regis (CO).
