Assistant Coach

Brian Bolton Jr joins Calvin track and field for the 2025-26 season as part of a pole vault coaching duo that is hoping to make waves in D3. A 2019 Calvin grad, Brian was a diver and an active musician, playing in the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, singing in Cappella, and serving as a Worship Apprentice during his time. Primarily coaching at the high school and club level, Brian made the transition to college coaching two years ago and has worked diligently to refine his skills at this level. “I’m incredibly excited for this opportunity. Calvin has a strong history filled with tradition, and the vision that Adam has for this team is one I am happy to be a part of.”

·       Began his time as an assistant coach at Calvin for track and field in 2025 ·       Graduated Calvin in the spring of 2023 with a therapeutic recreation and psychology degree ·       Participated as a thrower on the Calvin track and field team ·       Outside of coaching, Martinez Vasquez works as a recreational therapist at Pine Rest working with adolescents in a secured facility. ·       Hailing from Chicago, Illinois he enjoys lifting, pickleball, and disc golf in his free time

-A 2019 graduate of Calvin University where he competed in the discus, hammer, and shotput -National qualifier in the discus and hammer and multiple MIAA conference titles -Began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Calvin in 2020 and has coached many all-conference throwers and one all-American -Graduated with a Bachelors and Masters in Accounting and currently works in finance for a commercial construction firm -In his free time, enjoys golfing, fly fishing, and camping with his wife, Meg.

Hired as an Assistant Track & Field Coach prior to the start of the 2025-26 season to work primarily with the Calvin Throwers. Coached five years at Manchester University During his tenure at Manchester, Katon coached: 1 1st Team All-American Performance 3 2nd Team All-American Awards 9 NCAA DIII National Qualifications 20 Individual Conference Championships 60 All-Conference Performances (Top 3) 20 USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region Recognitions (Top 5) 9 HCAC Thrower of the Year Awards (Est. 2021/22) 6 HCAC Conference Meet Records 3 HCAC All-Time Records Contributed to six Team Track and Field Conference Championships Coached Three seasons at Davenport University, where he coached: 1 COVID All-American 1 NCAA DII National Qualification 6 NCAA DII Provisional National Qualifications 1 All-Conference Performance (Top 3) Conference Scoring Performances (Top 8) 4 New School Records As a Collegiate Athlete at Davenport University (2014-18), Katon was a standout thrower for the Panthers. Katon earned All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) recognition in the Men’s Weight and Hammer Throws, while qualifying for both the 2017 NAIA Indoor and Outdoor National Championships. Katon graduated from Davenport with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management in 2018. He earned his MBA from Davenport in 2020. Katon is a native of Chelsea, Mich. He, his wife Jenna, and daughter Nora, reside in Byron Center.
