Brian Tierney

Coach

Bio Educational background:   Integrated Program in Coaching and Leadership - Drake University Masters in Educational Leadership - Memorial University Certificate in Mathematical Sciences - St. Mary's University Diploma in Applied Information Technology - Information Technology Institute Bachelor of Science in Physical Education - St. Francis Xavier University   I grew up in beautiful Cape Breton and moved away for work a couple of times but always knew that we would end up back home in Cape Breton to live and raise our family.  I am married to Shealann Tierney and have three daughters; Janelle, Ashlyn, and Alyse.  Our three daughters have all taken a strong liking to soccer and have played competitive soccer for Soccer Cape Breton since a very young age.  Through countless hours of watching them develop and training with them I have grown to love and respect the game of soccer.     My role with the CBU Men's Soccer Program is that of another support person that assists the student athletes in several ways.  This could include assistance with the transition from high school to university, the development and maintenance of organizational skills help to keep up with academic demands during play season and after, and finally the transition from University to the workforce.  I attend training sessions and travel with the team which helps to develop relationships with the players and enables more time to assist as needed.  I also assist as needed with respect to logistics when travelling (team meals, transportation etc).   I joined the CBU Capers program in September of 2019 and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  I have been involved in sport my entire life and have great respect and admiration for these student athletes.  They are an incredibly mature, focused group of young men with a strong work ethic to improve both on and off the pitch.  Having coached many youth teams in a variety of sports over the years has given me an appreciation for what it takes to get to this level.  Now, being given an opportunity to work with these student athletes has been extremely rewarding and a great learning experience.  The coaching staff (Deano Morley, Scott Clarke, and Vernon O'Quinn) have been an exceptional team to work with.  Together, we share the common goal of seeing these boys develop to their full potential while having the most positive experience playing and learning at CBU.
