Dave Ricks
Head Coach
Ricks Dave Ricks took over the reins of the men's track and field program prior to the 2004 season. He also serves as Carleton's head men's cross country coach and is an associate professor in the physical education, athletics and recreation department. He has led the Knights to top-five finishes five times at the MIAC Indoor Championships and three times at the MIAC Outdoor Championships. Since Ricks took over the program, the Knights have seen 9 All-America performances and a total of 93 All-MIAC performances. Ricks previously served as an assistant coach for the Carleton women's track and field and cross country programs from 1993-2005 and was the assistant mens cross country coach for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. A 1976 graduate of Union College (N.Y.), Ricks was a two-sport All-American, specializing in the decathlon in track and field. He earned All-America honors in the decathlon in 1975 and was also an Academic All-American for Union in 1973. He has completed USA Track and Field's Level I Certification program for coaches. Ricks earned a M.S. in computer science and an MBA from Minnesota Statue University-Mankato. He also studied exercise physiology at the graduate level while at MSU-Mankato. He and his wife, Carleton head women's cross country and track and field head coach Donna Ricks, reside in Northfield with their daughter, Karissa. Assistant Coach Steve Dalhed Steve Dalhed joined the Knights coaching staff in 2012, working with both the mens cross country and track and field programs. As a sprinter for Saint Johns University (Minn.), Dalhed was a MIAC Champion and an NCAA Qualifier in the 4x400 meter relay and established four school records: the Indoor 200, the Indoor 400, the outdoor 4x400 and the 4x400 split. He coached mens and womens sprints, hurdles, and jumps at Augsburg College for five seasons from 2008 to 2012, where he coached nine NCAA Qualifiers. Dalhed graduated from Saint Johns in 2005 with a bachelors degree in Psychology, before going on to get his Masters of Applied Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota in 2007. Dalhed lives in Lakeville with his wife, Becky, and their son Miles.
