Julie Gaul

Head Coach

Gaul joined the Celtics coaching staff in 1993 and will begin her 16th season as head coach in 2016. Gaul coached and directed Junior Olympic Volleyball in the Pittsburgh area for five years, and coached the Pennsylvania High School team at the King Kamehameha Volleyball Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii for four years. She is currently the sports chair for volleyball in the River States Conference. Gaul has guided Carlow to the USCAA National Championships for the past four years. Gaul earned her Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and played volleyball for the University of Pittsburgh. Her team won the first Big East Championship for the University of Pittsburgh and Gaul was named MVP of the Big East. In 2004, Gaul was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington/Greene County chapter for athletic achievement in track and field and volleyball. In addition to coaching volleyball, she serves as the Director of Wellness and Fitness Services at Carlow University and is a certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. Gaul is also a certified Holistic Stress Management Instructor and provides wellness and fitness programming to the Carlow community. Gaul completed her Master of Business Administration at Carlow University in 2010. Women's Volleyball Assistant Coach : Steve Talpas   Women's Volleyball Assistant Coach: Maggie Connor Connor fell in love with volleyball at the age of 7 when her neighbor first taught her to "pepper." She played competitively through her teens as a middle hitter, outside hitter and setter, achieving all-state (Ohio) and scholar-athlete accolades. In college, Connor opted to put volleyball aside to pursue her other passion, architecture, and to study abroad. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1998. As an adult, she maintained her passion for volleyball, playing competitively on USAVB Womens A/AA teams. She is currently a part owner of a small architecture and urban design practice in Pittsburgh, and joined the Celtics coaching staff in 2014. She is looking forward to beginning her third year with Carlow University and the volleyball program in 2016.
